Aamna Sharif: Films were always my ultimate destination

Aamna Sharif, the petite TV actress who became popular as 'Kashish' in Ekta Kapoor's 'Kahi To Hoga' said films were always the ultimate destination for her.
"I always wanted to be in movies and did 'Kahi to Hoga' as the character of Kashish was too tempting. But, I did not want to be associated with the small screen after the show," Aamna, who is debuting in Bollywood with 'Aloo Chaat' opposite Aftab Shivdasani told the media.
Aamna said she took a break for a year after the television show ended.
"I played Kashish for three years and my character was very popular. During the break, I was listening to scripts and then took up 'Aloo Chaat' because it was script-oriented," she added.
Aamna said her fans would relate to her character on big screen.
Regarding 'Aloo Chaat', the actress said the film directed by Robby Grewal who had directed 'Samay', was a situational romantic comedy. The characters don't go over the top. "It is the situation, punch lines that provide comedy in the film."
"I play a girl from the US coming to Delhi for the first time and falls in love with Nikhil (Aftab) who hails from a typical Punjabi Delhi-based family. The film is about her experiences and cultural differences and how there is a confluence between the two," she added.
The actress said it was comfortable working Aftab, who has a great sense of comic timing.
Aamna was of the view that Bollywood was changing for good. "The industry is accepting newcomers, fresh ideas and the films are content driven," she said.
When asked if it was difficult finding a foothold in the industry without a backing, Aamna said she did not any backing when she did television. "I proved myself on small screen. It is the talent that counts," she added.
To a question, she said newcomers from film-families come with the baggage of huge expectations and more responsibility. "So the struggle for them is equally more," she added.
