It has only been 4-5 days since GR released. To claim it "the biggest hit of the year" is a huge dramatization. GR is far from doing "great". If the reports are to be believed then 'Golmaal Returns' has fallen to 50 percent. Perhaps it is the one of the biggest openings of the year - I don't know the exact figures of GR to compare.

Friday update: 'Golmaal Returns' strong, 'Fashion' steady at select screens

After a strong Wednesday and Thursday, everyone was waiting for the feedback to the two new releases, GOLMAAL RETURNS and FASHION, on Day 3 [Friday]. GOLMAAL RETURNS opened at major single screens on Friday, besides having extensive shows from Friday onwards at multiplexes. Expectedly, the laughathon continued to dominate the domestic box-office. The fun factor and lack of any major film during the festive season has done the trick, thus proving advantageous for the film.

Golmaal Returns Opens To Bumper Response Fashion Steady

Golmaal Returns opened to bumper 95-100% collections on Wednesday and was similar on Thursday. The shows and screens were increased on Friday and collections dropped to 70%. The three day nett is 19 crore approx. The reports are mixed but the film is putting up big numbers and will emerge a big winner at the box office.

Yes, we will have to see what the true status of the film is, but the point was to negate the claim made by a member htat kareena's gotten three consecutive flops after JWM. Tashan yes, RR yes (even though it was just her voice), but definitely not GR.

From what I gathered from the link you provided was that the single screen showings were better than others not that GR got the biggest opening of the year. Singh is King's weekend gross was 29 Crs. GR is nowhere near that so let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Drona Is A Horrific Disaster

Drona looks set to incur huge losses the sort which have never been witnessed before. The film has a budget of 50 crore and release costs of about 6 crore taking the total cost to 56 crore.

As of now the India theatrical share is heading for 10 crore (4 days nett 9 crore, 5 crore share) and Overseas for 3 crore (4 day gross 3 crore, share 1.75 crore) giving it theatrical revenue of just 13 crore and revenue from other sources may be about 10-12 crore. So the total revenue for Drona will be about 25 crore on a cost of 56 crore meaning massive losses in the region of 30 crore.

Drona is certain to be the grandmother of all disasters in terms of losses. Films like Umrao Jaan (2006) and RGV Ki Aag (2007) were amongst the biggest debacles ever but the losses on Drona will be more than the combined losses of those two disasters. Umrao Jaan(2006) lost around 10 crore while RGV Ki Aag(2007) lost around 15 crore. This year another super debacle Love Story 2050 also lost 15 crore but a 30 crore loss is double of we have ever seen before for any film.

Although most of the trade knew Drona was not going to be a huge hit as was being projected prior to release with the makers claiming to make Drona 2 as they were super confident of Drona, the sheer volume of losses has still shocked everyone.

Ok even if GR is HIT or SUPER HIT.....its not becasue of KAREENA for sure. Her role was just as much as Amrita Arora in the movie.

She wasn't even there for much role. It is all becasue of four guys - Ajay, Arshad, Shreyas and Tushaaar....NO ONE ELSE. There are more to come.....lets see Tashan down the drain, and RR down the drain and let see what happens to the next coming movies of hers.

Drona is, actually the biggest disaster of bollywood with a loss of over 30 crores I think. The reason it's such a huge disaster is because of it's high budget of 50 crores.

As for GR....I won't give Kareena too much credit here, I think the movie mostly worked because it was released on Diwali and caters to families. And sequels work fairly well.

Point of this post...is nothing. I don't like either of them but I guess if Abhi did kick Kareena out of this movie then that makes him look like a sucky person for that.

Yes it is. Because the opening depends on the promotion of the movie. No one automatically knew that tushar and shreyas would be the best. The promotion cenetered around Kareena. There have been succesful sequeals in teh past. Phir Hera Pheri never got this kinda of opening, even when Hera Pheri was better than Golmaal. You have to admit that kareena was a critical factor in pulling the crowds in. In all the posters, she was displayed as the central figure. And that's exactly why the movie got such a bumper opening. It would still have done well without her, but maybe instead of hte 95-100% opening the movie got, it would've gotten a 70% instead. Even the makers of the movie knew that kareena's star power was the best usp htey had. Rohit admitted it in many interviews, she's the "star" of the film. And as for content, many reviews have applauded her performance and said that she did well with whatever she was given.

she is working with Amir and Raju Hirani, (director of Munnabhai) in Three Idiot

she is also doing a movie with Akshay in Kambhkth Isque

and she is also working in a comedy with Salman in Mr.and Mrs.Khanna

she has a great line up with all the TRUE superstars..why should she even bother?

Oh ya and she is also working in Kjo production, where she is doing author back role in the lines of Omkara and chameli!

So do Bachchans..They also do not need Kareena. You must have guessed it by now as you said it yourself that Abhi removed her form oh so many films.

Both are happy in their own world. But then again never hears a word from Abhi's mouth about KAreena and her is this girl talking again and again about Bachchans and making comeent son Ash's dresses.

Come on KAreena stop dwelling in past. Abhi moved on..he married Ms. World and is happy. He avoids coming at the same time to party as you (according to the other thread in IF)..so talk about LOVE of your life SAif.....not Bachchans......You talk about them and then you say ou do not need them..Hmmmm..
