Shilpa's nostalgic about SRK!

19 Jun, 2007 09:02 am ISTlINDIATIMES MOVIES

Everybody wants a share of SRK, and we don't blame them; especially the lovely ladies who dream of romancing the superstar on screen, at least. Shilpa Shetty, in her career spanning over nearly two decades, got the opportunity to share the limelight with Shah Rukh only once. Until now of course. Like many other Bollywood beauties, she's making a special appearance in Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om . "It's only the second time in seventeen years that I'll be sharing screen-space with Shah Rukh Khan. I starred with him in 1993 in Baazigar for the first time, and we've never been cast together after that. In Om Shanti Om it's a small appearance, but it made me nostalgic," says Shilpa. Now that SS is a big celebrity in the UK (and SRK has been a favourite international star there for ages), maybe it's time to bring back this jodi together again. Karan Johar, Yash Chopra, you're listening, we hope?

'I've never seen a superstar like SRK'

19 Jun, 2007 l 0000 hrs ISTlRUMA SINGH /TIMES NEWS NETWORK

He is no typical Bollywood hero. His debut role, that of a deaf mute cricketer (Iqbal), and the next, a petty conman (Dor), got him accolades for his performances.

He looks clean and scrubbed, quite different from the gelled, bleached and body-built heroes strutting their synchronised steps on-screen. But director Nagesh Kukonoor has enough faith in his leading man to cast him now as a typical romantic hero in his newest film, Bombay to Bangkok, to be released in September.

"It's pretty challenging," admits Shreyas, describing the movie as a wacky romantic comedy with 'song and dance and something else' which he won't reveal, "More challenging than Iqbal and Dor - it's Nagesh's first masala film. And Nagesh doesn't make things easy for me. There's a lot I'm doing for the first time in Bombay to Bangkok, and I hope people it."

He gets to romance a foreigner, Lena Christensen. "She's a Bangkok model, very sweet, never threw a tantrum and worked really hard. At first she was a little surprised at our style of working. I would also play a lot of pranks on her - teaching her to say things to Nagesh and the team like 'kitne der shoot karne ka ?' when she thought she was complimenting them. I learnt a bit of Thai too. It's an experience we won't forget."

What he also won't forget is his experience of working with Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om. Shreyas is thrilled with his experiences with the superstar. "I'm fortunate to have worked with Shah Rukh and Farah Khan this early in my career. I've never seen a superstar like Shah Rukh. I had perceptions of him sitting closeted in his van, but he's such a generous, secure actor, willing to share his time and space. Knowing I'm from theatre, he wanted to use my inputs in the scenes we did. We would discuss each shot and improvise. They pampered me like anything. I want to work with them again and again," he says.

And that's not all he's trying his hand at. A psychiatrist's role in a thriller, Agar, is also in the offing. He's also doing Shyam Benegal's next, a comedy. And he likes the fact that he's mixing things up. "I look for different genres, romance, drama, thriller - or else I'll get bored. That's how I pick my scripts."

Shreyas doesn't count himself as a competitor in the race for the top spot. "I'm not competing. I know my strengths and weaknesses. I'm just not playing safe -I'm taking risks and loving it. I have no reason to complain. Right now I'm a happy man."

Karisma Kapoor had a blast

Thursday, June 07, 2007 08:47 IST

Madhuri Dixit may have stolen a march over her but Karisma Kapoor seems to be in no tearing hurry to make her own 'comeback'. But as far as the silverscreen is concerned, she'll be seen shortly in Shah Rukh Khan's 'Om Shanti Om'.

Kareena persuaded her to be part of the mega song in the film which has over 40 stars coming together. "When I walked onto the set, my first thought was 'Oh my God, how did I get dragged into this'? It was a great feeling to be back on a film set and to see so many people I've worked with over the years."

Meanwhile, Karisma has donned the greasepaint for John Mathew Mathan of 'Sarfarosh' fame — but this time it's an advertisement for a popular fan. As for films, she'd rather not jump the gun. "It's taking time, because I won't do a film for the sake of it. It'll take something substantial to tear me away and spend time from my daughter." And the grapevine says, that day isn't too far off.

Deepika Padukone on her alleged link-up with Ranbir Kapoor and working with King Khan

Though she is yet to make her star-studded debut in Bollywood, Deepika Padukone already leaves you bowled with her 'politically correct' statements. While many vouch for her as King Khan's latest prodigy in his upcoming 'Om Shanti Om', she has already had her fair share of controversies and link ups in the tinsel town.

While reports of her link up with Ranbir Kapoor (opposite whom she is cast in Yashraj's next flick) may have left everyone speechless, the former model herseldf looks at it with 'all in days work' attitude. "Being a known face, I guess it's just a habit to hear reports trying to intrude in your personal life. You do tend to get prepared for such things. As long as my family and people who matter to me are by my side, nothing else matters," she says. The industry was reportedly abuzz with rumours on how sparks flew between the two met on the sets of 'Om Shanti Om'

So, the million dollar question still remains - who is the man in her life? "You need the right compatibility with each other and have a certain level of understanding with the person whom you want in your life. You cannot plan who you fall in love with," explains the debutante, steering clear of taking any names.

While her character in her debut movie may have been kept under tight wraps, director Farah Khan sums up all the questions saying she is making the biggest movie of the year. And Deepika couldn't agree more. "If Farah says so, she is right. She is making the biggest blockbuster," she smiles.

So, any memories that she is taking along of her experience with the super star? "Shah Rukh is a wonderful person. Every day, every minute of the shoot, he lived up to that persona and the 'King Khan' tag that he carries," recalls the Maybelline brand ambassador.

So, is she bound by a contract with SRK's production house as rumours suggest? "Once you are associated with a movie, I think it's just fair if you are asked to give 100 percent of your time and attention. Shah Rukh and Farah will always be there to support me and guide me in the future," she signs off.

Shah Rukh Khan may change the release date of 'Om Shanti Om'

29th June 2007 09.01 IST

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is reportedly considering changing the release date of his next home production Om Shanti Om .

Earlier, SRK's 'Om Shanti Om' and Sanjay Leela Bhansali 's Saanvariya were being planned for release in the auspicious, and more importantly, bountiful Diwali week.

'Saanvariya' is the launch vehicle of Rishi Kapoor 's son, Ranbir Kapoor , and Anil Kapoor 's daughter, Sonam .

Reports are that Bhansali met SRK to discuss the release strategy of his prestigious film, which is being co-produced by Sony.

Since the budget of 'Saanvariya' is very high, estimated to be in the region of 40 crore plus, and also because it would introduce two promising newcomers amidst a lot of fanfare, Bhansali is said to have asked SRK if he could consider not releasing his 'Om Shanti Om' on the same day as 'Saanvariya'.

Since Bhansali has already decided on the Diwali day (November 9) release, he said, he would be obliged if the King Khan came either before or after that date.

Although the week beginning November 9 is one of the best weeks of 2007 for releasing a film, King Khan is believed to have assured his Devdaas director that he would consider not getting his 'Om Shanti Om' on the same day, so that the launch pad of the two newcomers would get an open week.

The director of 'Om Shanti Om', Farah Khan admitted that Bhansali did visit SRK on the sets of her film when he (Bhansali) was shooting in the same studio as her.

"I cannot comment on the exact release date of our film," she said, adding, "Shah Rukh will have to decide on it. He is in London currently and will take a call once he is back from his London holiday. But I can say one thing - we are looking at a release between Eid and Diwali."

Partner-in-time?

Picture this. Sridevi wanted to dance with husband Boney Kapoor in the title track of Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om!

Sandipan Dalal

Imagine Boney Kapoor running around trees and wooing Sridevi on a '70 mm screen. You may or may not like the idea, but loving wife Sridevi wanted to pair with hubby Boney in the title track of Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om.

It so happened that Farah Khan wanted Sridevi and Jeetendra to do a small segment in the lavish track that features over 30 actors. However, Sridevi refused to team up with Jeetendra and insisted that Boney Kapoor's dancing skills be explored for the song. Obviously, the request didn't go down too well with the unit of Om Shanti Om.

Says our source, "Can you imagine Sri grooving on screen with Boney? The couple have been married for a while and we have never heard about such aspirations. We thought Boney was better off making films. It was amusing."

Many meetings and discussions followed as Farah was extremely keen on having Sridevi (sans Boney) for the song. Sridevi even promised that Boney would do rigorous rehearsals before hitting the sets. However, the creative team was not impressed, they were hell-bent on having Jeetendra dancing with the actress. Eventually, she opted out and promised to do a cameo for the film (which is yet to be shot).

Close friends of Boney tell us that he even aspires to act in films. Blink-and-a-miss appearances are what he is looking at. Adds a source from Boney Kapoor's office, "The Om Shanti Om episode has not deterred him from pursuing his aspirations. If not anything else, he may soon make a special appearance in his productions."

Disco dancer Mimoh

He's got the moves. koi shaq? Farah Khan (inset) Mimoh
One person who simply loves Mimoh Chakraborty's dancing is director Farah Khan. She says, "While we were shooting with Mithunda for Om Shanti Om, he showed us a DVD of Mimoh's dancing and I must say he is simply mind-blowing!

Shah Rukh and I were in shock. His dancing is on par with Michael Jackson, and he is very fast and light on his feet."

Mimoh may be a fantastic dancer, but he certainly need to improve on his voice.

To that, daddy Mithun has an answer. "Nothing succeeds like success. Let Mimoh deliver a hit and everyone will forget about his voice," he says.

Mimoh's papa proudest, wot?
