SRK to play lead role in Arjun's next production?

by Debasis Jana

Actor Arjun Rampal's first film as producer, 'I See You' didn't fare well at the box office, but it has not dampened his spirit, however. As per latest, Arjun has set to produce some more projects in near future. And if the rumourmongers are to be believed, one of them will have Bollywood king Shah Rukh Khan in the lead. Shah Rukh, who did a cameo in 'I See You', is a close neighbour of Arjun and also a good friend. However, when asked, Arjun refused to say much about his ambitious project. "I have a few exciting projects as producer," he admitted, adding, "Wait and see! I am not going to reveal anything right now."

Shah Rukh, ill?
by Debasis Jana

Shah Rukh is not feeling well these days. When we met him recently he was sniffing and snuffling. We hear he's even taking a doctor to the sets of his recent television show – just so that the doctor can inject him with the required shots, even while SRK keeps he work going smoothly. We hope, soon the Bollywood king will get well.

Bachchan wishes he could do SRK's "Swades"

he can go and hibernate in that village and never be seen and heard from for a millenium. I am totally fed up with this guy. He has to have a dig at SRK doing KBC in such a snide way.(my personal comments)

New Delhi: If he could, guess which role of Shah Rukh Khan would Amitabh Bachchan like to play? The one in 'Swades'.

And Bachchan also believes that if Aishwarya Rai acts better than her soon-to-be-husband Abhishek, then it's "their problem"!

"I don't see any problem in her (Aishwarya) wanting to continue her career and wanting to continue acting and if she is going to act better than Abhishek, then it's their problem, it's not my problem," Bachchan says on NDTV's "India Questions" show.

The show, being aired Saturday, sees the ageing superstar interact with 50 young fans, according to an NDTV press release.

On what he thinks of Shah Rukh anchoring the TV game show "Kaun Banega Crorepati" (KBC), a role Bachchan himself used to play until recently, he says: "Shah Rukh is fine. I hadn't seen Shah Rukh's 'KBC', but recently I did and I thought that it was fine."

He adds that the format of the show was more impressive than any host it featured.

Shah Rukh has often been compared with Bachchan, with both having performed the lead roles in the two versions of "Don".

When asked if there is any role of the younger actor that he would like to do, Bachchan says: "If ever I was of his age and if I wanted to do it, I would like to do 'Swades'".

About his controversial association with the Samajwadi Party and its leader Amar Singh, Bachchan said it was personal rather than political.

"Friendship...I don't do politics and whatever my association is with Amar Singhji or (Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister) Mulayam Singhji, it is on a personal, private level," he says.

Shah Rukh Khan turned down KBC 2 for Amitabh Bachchan

11th Feb 2007 22.00 IST
By ApunKaChoice

Yes, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was offered to anchor Kaun Banega Crorepati 2, but he backed out because of mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan .

SRK revealed recently that Star TV had earlier too approached him to do the second season of KBC but he was very keen on one condition that he would do the show only if Bachchan did not want to do the show anymore.

Hence, when Bachchan expressed a desire to continue doing KBC 2, SRK backed away from the project in spite of the channel approaching him to do the show.

SRK confirms, "Two years ago Star offered me KBC 2 and I asked them if Mr. Bachchan wanted to do it. And they said yes, so I backed off. Recently too when they offered me KBC 3, I said I will only do it if Mr. Bachchan says no. After they had said that he had declined to do it, I asked to see a letter from him confirming this. Only after that did I agree to do it."

SRK feels that when someone else was slated to do a particular role and you step into their shoes for whatever reasons, it is mere courtesy to ask the person whom you have replaced if it is not a problem.

SRK feels that KBC is a product that began with Bachchan and states, "If there was even an iota of doubt that he wanted to do it, then I wouldn't do it."

So, SRK replaced Bachchan in KBC 3 only after seeing a written statement from Bachchan saying that he did not want to continue doing the popular game show.

SRK has replaced many prominent actors in some of his films like Aamir Khan for Darr and Salman Khan for Josh but he has always called them up first to see if it is okay to go ahead with the project and that there are no problems from their side.

Nice to know that SRK has reached the top but not by stepping on other people's toes, a rare thing in Bollywood.

HIP-HOP STAR: The KBC song breaks Shah Rukh out of his suited-booted look into a hip-hop star.

Mumbai: One question can change your life and one sms can now trap actor Shah Rukh Khan in your mobile phone.

The Kaun Banega Crorepati song that is increasingly gaining popularity, is now available for downloads.

The song that breaks Shah Rukh out of his suited-booted look into a hip-hop star was indeed first of the kind for King Khan as the actor is popularly known.

"He was amused with the whole hip-hop thing. He has never done that," choreographer, Ganesh Hegde says.

The simplest thing in the song is the most difficult to do in this hip-hop thing. Maybe you need to be little flexible for it," says Shah Rukh.

And what about the question about an important decision that changed his life?

"To come to Mumbai and to act in films was an important decision of my life," says Shah Rukh.

The actor has been trying to please the contestants in KBC by giving away his watches. However, the actor says, "I am ready to take off my clothes in give them away," says Shah Rukh.

And Shah Rukh can be trusted to do that just the way he hummed his hip-hop number on demand.

KBC News - Amrita Arora spends her birthday at KBC

Perfect gift on Valentine's Day would be SRK wishing me, says Amrita

Amrita Arora and beau Usmaan Afzal decided to drop by the sets of KBC on 31st Jan to lend her support to elder sister Malaika and brother-in-law Arbaaz Khan as they were recording the Valentine's Day Special. Incidentally it was also Ammu's birthday that day!

KBClive caught up with younger of the sexy Arora sisters to find out what she thinks of the host, KBC and the preparation her family has been making...

On KBC with SRK…

Of course I have. My whole family is a huge fan of KBC so I don't think we have too much of a choice. Come the time for it to start and it's on! I have caught a few episodes and I think it's really nice. Shah Rukh's doing a great job. Questions are way tougher this year. But I think it's nice as the stakes are higher so it has to go on a level where the contestants find it more challenging.

On Malaika and Arbaaz's preparations…

Yea they have been preparing really hard. They have been reading up on their GK. They have been speaking to people of are really good with politics so I think they have in the last week, kind of, been gathering information from various people who know about various things. They are quite nervous and we are here to support them. Let's see how far they go.

On trading places with her sister…

Nope…No… No... No…not at all. I mean quiz games are not for me. I get highly stressed so that's why I said I would make a good audience viewer and I do not want to be on the hot seat!

On Valentine's Day…

I'm someone who believes that Valentine's Day shouldn't just be 14th February. I'm someone who truly believes in love. I think it's the purest form and the best emotion any human being can find on this planet. It should be celebrated every day. But I think is that for people who are tied up with stuff then an extra effort on one day makes a difference but for me Valentine's Day is every day.

Perfect way too woo her on Valentine's Day…

Depending on who wants to woo me? Well today I'm on KBC so how about Shah Rukh?

And what should SRK do?

Well it's my birthday today and I'd be really happy if he just wishes me!

Don returns

Farhan Akhtar's Don premiered to a packed house at the ongoing Berlin Film Festival, recently. We hear that a third show has been incorporated in the itinerary by the organisers on popular demand. Producer Ritesh Sidhwani has been left overwhelmed by the response while interacting with the audience at the festival. He says, "I was overwhelmed by the fantastic response I received. It was surprising to see the audience seated till the end credits rolled."

Needless to say that Shah Rukh Khan is a popular name in Berlin too. Sidhwani is a witness to the fanfare and he's going to be bringing back a bunch of souvenirs that fans have dumped on him. "I was at the Virgin mega store and I came across six to seven popular titles starring Shah Rukh, which have been dubbed in German. My baggage now includes a bunch of souvenirs, postcards and paintings that fans got for SRK."

Interestingly, the audience comprised a handful of Indians only. Sidhwani informs, "Very few NRIs attended the screening. The crowd had locals and lots of European film school students." Sidhwani single-handedly fielded a volley of questions coming from the audience as good friend Farhan Akhtar was unable to attend the festival. "Farhan couldn't make it as he was down with flu. The question and answer session lasted for a good half an hour. People actually stayed back and quizzed me on the norm of song and dance sequences prevalent in Bollywood. The most hilarious question was from this gentleman who wanted to enquire if there're honeymoon packages available in India too while talking about our forthcoming film Honeymoon Travels Pvt ltd."

Gauri and the King

By: Lata Khubchandani
February 11, 2007

The reticent Gauri was more forthcoming those days. She said, "He loves to exaggerate, to make a big thing of everything. He speaks of our meeting as if it was the greatest romance that ever happened but that's not true at all. I was merely 14 and in school.

He was 19 and in college. We met at parties, socials and fetes. We played games together but we were always in a group, never alone. And there was no earth-shattering realisation that this is love. I liked him and I guess he liked me but that's about it.

"Today he loves to dramatise the whole thing and behave like it was a great thing. It was later, when we'd been meeting for a few years, that our friendship grew. We knew each other for eight years before we married. And I must admit I was totally confused. His being a Muslim and entering films caused a lot of tension in my family.

They were totally against it and though I was clear I wanted to marry him, I wasn't quite easy with the fact that he was entering films. But gradually my parents got to know him and found him cool.

"Being married to him is the easiest thing. He's an easy person to be with. And particularly with me, he is so caring that I have gained a lot of confidence from being with him. If I say anything to him, he listens (hastily amends), pretends to listen as if it is the single most delightful thing to have me tell him anything. If I pluck a leaf, he tells me the way I do it, is the only way to do it. Everything I do is perfect with him and though I know he's trying to please me, it's a quality I like very much.

But (with great perspicuity) all that is a pretence, he's very, very stubborn. No one can make him do anything he doesn't want to or not do something that he wants to. He may pretend that he's listening to you and do what you want but if he doesn't agree to it, then he won't do it.

But he's so convincing that if we are discussing or arguing, before the issue can be resolved, he has persuaded you to his own point of view so naturally and convincingly that though you see through him, you give in to him. He does it charmingly, not connivingly — that's what's so endearing about him.

"The two of us have nothing in common. That's why I think we were attracted — opposite poles and all that. I'm a very laidback person.

Very little affects me. I'm different with Shah Rukh though. Not so phlegmatic. In the sense that if he ever tries to tell me off or slightly to put me down or not give me the attention I want, I will not take it. Even now if something like that happens, I just ignore him and start doing my own thing. I can be with him and still withdraw totally.

"What would hurt me very much is if he ever lied to me. I might lie to him (laughs) but not in fundamentals. I wouldn't cheat him. I do not contribute to his film life, not an ounce, but that's because I don't want to.

"Personally though, I think I bring happiness into his life — joy, a smiling face. When he comes home, I am there. I serve him food, am nice to him, laugh with him, watch movies together, party together and he does the same — gives me satisfaction, makes me smile all the time. I hate tension of any kind and he makes me feel at ease wherever I am and makes me feel that whatever I am doing is the best. I experience his love for me."

Shah Rukh on Gauri

"The greatest quality she possesses is her genuineness… and it's such a pleasure to come home to someone who's so real. She's outspoken, she can be rude at times but she doesn't give in to diplomacy. She is everything I am not. She complements me. I like to think that what I am is because of what she is. I would be a different person otherwise.

"I am a difficult person to be with. I am temperamental and eccentric. She doesn't give in to my temperament at times, sometimes she does. She doesn't listen to me all the time, sometimes she does. I'd say she handles me very well. And that's not her only claim to fame! She is very genuine, something that I can never be perhaps.

"She means everything to me. She's the only person I'd go and cry in front of. I used to be quite a slob, quite a bachelor in my ways. I'd never eat at the dining table. I'd throw clothes wherever I took them off. She's changed all that. I try to do what she likes because she likes it and I respect that.

"What I expect from her is to be herself at all times. I expect her to be the Gauri I fell in love with and I hope she never changes. There are no expectations — whatever happens happens and I like what happens. What does she expect from me? Everything. She expects me to do everything and I do it.

"She knows she's more beautiful in my eyes than my co-stars and that's what's more important to her, I guess. If I had to choose between peace of mind and a piece of a**, I'd choose the former (quoting a dialogue from Forrest Gump).

He signs off mock arrogantly. "We have just one thing in common. I love me and she loves me and that's the only thing we agree upon." She retorts, "People ask me how does it feel being married to a star like Shah Rukh? That's ridiculous — for me he's my husband, not a star. The day I see him as a star, our relationship will suffer very much."
