It is unfortunate that such an important and relevant statement "When a woman says no, it means no" came from someone who had lost so much credibility. It is a very simple statement that hasn't really struck home in India and many countries yet.
It is not easy being a woman in India. For some reason men tend to assume a short skirt, a tank top means that the girl is loose and it's an open invitation, or that if she slept with one person she has no morals left and is open game, or that being a prostitute/po*n star means that a woman is public property and has no say. The worst part of it all is "NO" never receives credence. The fact that a woman said No or stop never counts. It always boils down to "why did you wear that", "Why did you go there", "why were you out late", "why were you with him" ' but no one considers the fact that ' no means no and those who ignored the no are in the wrong.
I find Sunny's whole charade against Amar ridiculous, over the top and completely stupid. She lost all respect and credibility with her behavior. However, I respect her for this solitary statement and for the attempt to make that point. I also do believe that no matter how stupid or frivolous Sunny was being, no matter how seriously he takes tasks, no matter how harmless he thinks something is ' Amar should have taken no means no.
I don't think Sunny is making it up when she says she hasn't had a problem with men in the states. The concept of No and gaining consent is really driven hard into people legally, as well as socially and culturally. College girls can walk around wearing barley anything and never get harassed, drunken girls stumble around campuses late night and don't have to worry about people taking advantage(of course there is no 100% safety, I'm talking relative safety).
There is a serious problem in society when even a twelve year old school girl has to worry if she is growing too quickly for her uniform . No means no, seriously, and it is no laughing matter simply because someone like Sunny said it.
