Bobby Darling was supposed to play the role of Keshto Mukherjee in the Bhojpuri version of Ekta Kapoor's Sholay.

He was also on cloud nine when he heard that there was an item number in the film specifically designed for her. However, even before she could report on the set, Bobby was unceremoniously dropped from the film.

Big project

Says Bobby, "I have been offered numerous experimental roles thanks to my personality, so when I got a call to do Ekta Kapoor's Sholay I was thrilled.

I knew this film was going to be watched by everyone as it has Jeetuji playing Thakur and Ravi Kissen as Gabbar Singh. I was asked to play the role of Keshto Mukerjee and there was an item song with me in the jail."

After getting a narration on the role, Bobby was busy making preparations to nail the role. "The biggest reason for my excitement was that Ekta had offered me this opportunity. I owe a lot to her and have worked in a lot of Balaji shows. I even started hunting for a sexy ghagra and backless choli for the film."

Bobby had blocked his dates from February 20 to 26 for the film. "I said no to many other projects. I keep getting offers to do item songs and music videos but I keep rejecting them as I want a bigger and better platform. I looked at Sholay as one such vehicle to make my debut as an item girl."

Killing me softly

But Bobby was in for a rude shock when he got a call saying he didn't match the budget for the film. "I was supposed to go to Banaras on February 21 for the shoot. However, I got a call only a few days ago to say that they didn't need me as their budget doesn't suit my needs. When I asked them the reason, they said the film has undergone some changes."

Even though she didn't talk to Ekta directly, Bobby is upset with the director Mahesh Pandey. "I am not disappointed with Ekta. I don't even know if she's aware of me being dropped from the film.

It's the way everything was handled that's bothering me. After giving me such high hopes, Mahesh could have at least told me in advance. It isn't fair to raise someone's expectations and then kill it."

Disappointed but determined, Bobby now plans to do one big item song in a film before the year ends. "It doesn't bother me that I am not doing Sholay. I just want to move on and hope something big falls into my lap."
