When Bhojpuri Superstar Manoj Tiwari decided to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Gorakhpur as a Samamwadi Party candidate, little did he realise that it would be such a big turning point for him. Not only did he lose th elections, he came a distant third with just 83,000 votes while the winner got more that 4 lakh votes.
Gorakhpur was special to Manoj as his first film Sasura Bada Paisawala was shot there. And it was his huge fan following from Gorakhpur that had urged him to contest the elections. Visibly shocked by the results, Manoj said, "If the people of Gorakhpur have rejected me, what can I say?" But he was quick to add that though he had lost, he had won the hearts of the people! "I had plans for betterment of Gorakhpur and I was willing to work on them, but the people of Gorakhpur rejected my ideas."
So is the actor upset with the people? "It's not like that. I am not a politician. I am son of the soil, and I will continue working for my people. Gorakhpur has always been special to me and this defeat will not make any difference to that," Manoj replied.
But it looks like the problem does not end there. It is also heard that this defeat may affect his acting and singing career. A certain party leader said, "I don't know why Manoj contested elections on Samajwadi Party ticket. Now he belongs to the opposite camp. We can not invite him for our events."
With several flop films and this kind of defeat in elections, it looks like the toughest period of his career.
