Professional Shweta likely to get back to work

Despite her personal problems, Shweta Tiwari aka Prerna Bajaj is expected to come for the shoot today evening (June 18) around 6.30 PM. The shift is up to 9 PM at the Killick Nixon studio, Andheri, Mumbai.

According to Doris, Creative Head of KasautiI Zindagi Kay, 'Shweta will be coming as she is a very professional actress and will keep aside her personal problem. It's very sad to hear about all that's happening and I hope everything gets fine soon.'

About today's sequence, Doris, says, 'There will be the engagement of P2-Prerna's (Kartika), favourite grand daughter with Vardhan. Shweta will also be seen in the sequence'

Shewta Tiwari's husband booked for misbehaving with woman scribe

MUMBAI: Police have filed a complaint against television actor Shweta Tiwari's husband Raja Chaudhary for allegedly misbehaving with a woman journalist.

The incident occurred when Raja Chaudhary was being interviewed by Janice Sequiera, a television news journalist, in the wake of a complaint lodged against him by Shweta with the Malad police on Saturday evening.

Shweta has accused Raja of harassing her under the influence of alcohol.

Raja lost his temper when Janice asked him whether he was drunk. He roughly pushed the journalist to make her smell his breath, according to the complaint lodged by Janice with police.

Trouble started brewing when Shweta found instant success with Balaji's Kasautii Zindagi Kay. Unemployed and insecure, Raja began to feel threatened by her star status. When gossip mills started churning rumours of Shweta's link-up with co-star Cezanne Khan things went from bad to worse. "Raja is dominating and tries to hog the limelight at events," says a close friend. Raja has lived under her shadow for almost seven years now. Thanks to Shweta, he started making appearances at Page 3 parties. There, much to Shweta's embarrassment, he made advances at women. In June 2005, actress Dolly Bindra filed a complaint at Juhu police station, accusing Raja of making sexual advances at a party. Shweta came to the rescue of her husband then. Although upset with Raja's behaviour, she did not acknowledge it publicly. This is not an isolated incident. Raja is notorious for screaming at Shweta on the sets. "I have seen them squabbling on the sets. Shweta hides things from us to avoid the embarrassment. Once, Raja was hurling abuses at Shweta for money. Hours later, Raja stormed out while Shweta was left sobbing in her van," says our source. Raja keeps a tight control over Shweta's earnings. While Shweta has done considerably well, Raja has been jobless. "Although Shweta is the breadwinner, she is a submissive wife, and lets Raja manage her money as per his choice. He has also invested Shweta's money in a Bhojpuri movie," says a family friend. When they were approached for Nach Baliye 2, Shweta was not too keen but Raja, in a bid to become famous, did not want to miss the chance. "Shweta, an excellent dancer had a tough time matching steps with her husband. She was upset when she lost the contest because of her incompetent husband," says a Nach Baliye 2 contestant. Meanwhile, Raja was hospitalised because of his liver infection. "Raja has been an alcoholic and when he was hospitalised Shweta took care of him," says a friend. The couple has a seven-year-old daughter named Palak. Shweta was quiet about her marital problems because of her daughter, say a few family friends. "Although Shweta has been abused, she chose to keep mum because of Palak. The marriage has been long over, but Shweta does not want Palak to have bad memories. Their marriage is on the rocks definitely. I won't be surprised if she files for a divorce," adds the friend.

'I tolerated drunk Raja for two years'

Shweta Tiwari says violent Raja was jealous. Tiwari said she drew the line on her husband's misbehaviour last week after months of torture.

"Three days back, Raja became violent because he felt I was coming late from my shoot and was not paying any attention to him and our
daughter Palak," a weak Shweta said through her tears, "We quarreled for an hour over this. There is a limit to everything. I tolerated
him for two years but now I have run out of patience." The actress, who plays Prerna Bajaj in Kasautii Zindagi Kay, has left her husband
and moved in with her aunt.

"I am staying with my masi," she said. Her complaint against Raja at Malad police station on Saturday brought the media to their door and while she spoke little or not at all, her estranged husband's aggressive behaviour on television illuminated her problem.

For now Prerna has filed a non-congnisable office, which means Raja will not be arrested. Shweta blames Raja's heavy drinking for the decline in their relationship. "He used to be a chain smoker and a drunk. He quit smoking but continued drinking," she said, "our relationship came to a halt during Nach Baliye 2. He felt insecure after he wasn't able to dance properly."

After reaching the last 4 in the competition, the couple pulled out after Raja was hospitalised with a liver ailment. Shweta says she had tried, much like her character Prerna Bajaj, to be a model housewife. "My going to the police happened after seven years of marriage but I couldn't take it any longer."

Shweta Tiwari and Raja Chaudhary at the launch of a toothpaste brand last week Only last week, Shweta Tiwari made a public appearance for a product launch with husband Raja Chaudhary and daughter Palak (they have modelled for the toothbrush company as a family). The couple seemed at peace with each other. However, things changed dramatically over the weekend after it came to light that Shweta (better known as Kasautii Zindagii Kay's Prerna Bajaj) filed a non-cognisable offence of assault and forcefully taking away their daughter Palak against Raja at the Malad police station. According to Shweta's cousin and telly actor Raj Logani (Saathi Re), 'The last time I met didi was two months back. I've been flooded with calls from friends and relatives but no one really knows what went wrong. I've known Raja for a long time and he never seemed the sort to harm Shweta. But he is extremely possessive of her.' When asked about Raja's tryst with alcohol, he says, 'Yes, he enjoys a drink or two once in a while, but some people have implied that he uses drugs. He would never do that. Raja is very much in control of himself even after a few pegs of alcohol.' Saying that the fight could be a mere ego clash, Logani says, 'For a long time, Raja was known only as Shweta Tiwari's husband, but after Nach Baliye 2, things changed. No room at home When HiTLIST visited Shweta and Raja's home Shiv Shakti in Malad, it was locked. Inquiries in the neighbourhood reveal that ever since Shweta filed the complaint, the doors have been locked. It is learnt that Shweta has shifted to a relative's house. Further inquiries reveal that Raja spent the night at Privilege Inn Hotel, just a few blocks away from their home. Sources at the hotel confirm that Raja checked in on Saturday along with his brother and parents, soon after Shweta filed the complaint. According to the hotel source, 'They occupied two rooms (407, 409) and looked disturbed. Soon, some police officers arrived at the hotel to question Raja.' The family left the hotel soon after and were said to be leaving for their hometown, Meerut. Incidentally this is not the first time, a police complaint has been filed against Raja for bad behaviour. Two years ago, actress Dolly Bindra had alleged that Raja 'outraged her modesty' at a party. In an FIR filed with the Juhu police station, the actress accused Chaudhary of violent conduct in an inebriated state. The incident occurred at a party thrown by actor Anuj Saxena to launch his production house, Maverick. All for the film? Raja Chaudhary makes his debut as a producer with the Bhojpuri film Hamar Saiyyan Hindustani. He is also producing a Hinglish film titled My Second Honour. A source reveals that the police complaint could be a publicity stunt by Shweta and Raja to promote their film. 'Raja's Bhojpuri film is due for release soon. It could very well have been orchestrated by Raja to attract attention as the film's plot is similar to what is happening right now.'

The complaint was filed with the Malad Police station in Mumbai, the sources said.

Shweta Tiwari has apparently been driven to a point where she had no choice but lodge a complaint against her husband, Raja Chaudhury, the fact is, she is not ready to divulge details. Earlier, Kangana Ranaut lodged a police complaint against her mentor and boyfriend Aditya Panscholi only after he allegedly abused her and punched her in an autorikshaw in broad daylight. Shweta Tiwari, who made the character of Prerna Bajaj in Kasautii Zindagii Kay famous, has lodged a police complaint against her husband Raja Chaudhary of assaulting her and forcibly taking away daughter Palak from her. The actress has accused her husband of subjecting her to domestic violence under the influence of liquor. Shweta might leave abusive Raja

One of India 's favourite TV bahus prepared to become independent of her abusive husband after earlier filing a case against him over the weekend.

Though the misbehaviour and alcoholism charges she has filed are for the moment not part of a criminal case, her friends say they pave the way for separation in a seven-year marriage during whose course she became a major star and he only a hanger-on.

This is the second time Shweta went to the police, being sent back the first time with the advice that this was a personal matter which the couple should try to resolve among themselves. However, Shweta returned to the police to file a non-cognisable offence on Saturday night after Raja's behaviour did not change.

The couple has a daughter, Palak, who is a first standard student.

Shweta and Raja participated in Nach Baliye's second season where their popularity soared. During Nach Baliye's run, Raja was admitted to the hospital for a liver problem. The reason behind his illness was said to be his heavy drinking, which on the evidence of Sunday's happenings was still continuing. Raja abused reporters who questioned him about Shweta's complaint and grabbed a female reporter and forced her to sniff his breath when she asked if he was inebriated.

His father later apologised and said Raja was unwell and medicated.

Shweta's whereabouts on Sunday were not known, though her father-in-law claimed she was home.

Friends say Shweta's very successful television career might be sabotaged by her entry into the Bhojpuri industry, on Raja's urging. Both of them are currently acting as well producing Bhojpuri films. Raja's acting career has floundered and people know of him as 'Shweta's husband'. Friends of the couple said that his ego can't handle this and that Raja has a history of abuse. They point to the incident where actress Dolly Bindra (Hum Sab Ek Hai) filed a case against Raja claiming he was drunk and has physically assaulted her at a party. After his waywardness became public, another story surface. The young, beautiful and successful Shweta had been finding solace with her co- star Cezanne Khan from Kasautii Zindagi Kay. Shweta denied rumours of an affair and the couple's relationship seemed stable. They recently celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary and shot a commercial together, but this was only for appearances, friends said.

Maruti Rathod, senior inspector of the Malad Police says, "Shweta filed a NC (Non-Cognisable) case. This means that the police cannot arrest Raja. The case was filed on the 13th and she mentioned that Raja was threatening her. He said that if she kept coming home late from work he would beat her. Last night the couple came to the station and fought in front of the police. Raja was asking Shweta why she took such a small matter to police. According to Shweta, Raja is suspicious as she comes home late from her shoots."

Shweta's cousin, Raj Logani, said the current impasse had not always been the case. "When did this happen? They are a very loving couple. They're known as a great couple and a great family. Raja is not a heavy drinker. He is a nice person and is completely in love with Shweta. I will have to speak to them to find out what happened exactly."

Raja and Shweta have planned to come out with another Bhojpuri film, a Hinglish film and a play. They have also launched spiritual jewellery. The couple was also planning a trip to Disney and Lonavala for their daughter.

Kasauti crew hails Shweta's professionalism

Shweta Tiwari aka Prerna Bajaj, who came to shoot for Kasautii Zindagi Kay yesterday (June 18) despite her personal problems, was absolutely normal and shot for her scenes like any other day at work.

Abhishek, Executive Producer of the show, said, "She was not at all tense and was concentrating on the script. Whatever may be the problem, we are supporting her. In fact it was unanimously decided that no one will ask her anything about the issue. We all know Shweta is a very professional actress and that's exactly how she behaved yesterday."

The other co-actors who were present for the shoot were Kartika aka P2 and Mridul aka Verdhan.

While Mridul did not comment on this issue, Kartika only reiterated what Abhishek said. "She was normal and behaving as if nothing happened. I really appreciate her as an actor and human being, what else can I say?"

On being asked if Shweta is coming for shoot today (June 19), Abhishek said, "No. She is not coming today as she doesn't have any shot."

Well, Shewta Tiwari seems to be behaving like a true professional.

Kasautii Zindaggii Kay's Prerna (Shweta Tiwari) filed a complaint of assault against her husband Raja Chaudhary at Malad police station on Saturday evening. The latest buzz is that she is filing for divorce. While Shweta prefers to remain silent, Raja speaks about what went wrong in their marriage. What led Shweta to go to the police on Saturday? Like every married couple, we have our share of misunderstandings. Lately, our mis- understandings have been growing because I was busy with my play (Chadramukhi v/s Paro) and my Bhojpuri film. I wasn't giving enough time to my family. However, we sorted them out. Think of it, just last week we were on holiday in Lonavala. Things got out of hand on Friday owing to mounting misunderstandings between us. What were the misunderstandings about? Shweta's mother has been staying with us for the last six years. I had asked her to stay with us because our daughter Palak was very small then and both Shweta and I couldn't give her enough time. Palak is seven years old now and I am thankful to Shweta's mother for supporting us when we needed her. But that day, I happened to suggest to Shweta that her mother could go back now because my father-in-law, who stays alone, is not keeping well. Did Shweta tell you that she was going to the police? No. She left for her shoot on Friday. She returned on Saturday at 3 pm. She came with the cops, her lawyer and Saket from Balaji. What happened after that? My father and I requested them to leave us alone to sort out our problems. I even told Shweta to talk to me. Before she could react, her lawyer intervened. Nobody would listen. They alleged I was drunk and asked me to come to the police station and talk. Were you in an inebriated state then? No. I haven't touched alcohol since I was hospitalised with a liver problem during Nach Baliye 2. Before that, I used to have a drink once in a while. But I was never an alcoholic. Did you hit Shweta on Friday? It was a verbal fight. I did not hit her. Have you ever raised your hand on Shweta? I did, but only once and that was a long time ago. We had a fight over something and I hit her and she hit me back. I broke one vase, she broke three. I broke four glasses, she broke eight. Can I ask you something? Sure... If I was harassing her for money, drinking alcohol and torturing her, how did she stay with me eight years? She is a strong individual and would never out up with it. The flat you live in (Malad) is in Shweta's name? Yes. It is in the name of Shweta Chaudhary, the wife of Raja Chaudhary. But she is Shweta Tiwari. I am really intrigued by one thing. Shweta never used her name Shweta Chaudhary, though her first serial Aane Wala Pal, which she got through a friend of mine, and Kasautii... happened much after our marriage. Shweta Tiwari and her hubby Raja Chaudhary's marital discord has made national headlines, but on the sets of Kasautii Zindagii Kay life goes on as usual. "We used to speak almost every day on phone. But, she has stopped taking my calls ever since the incident was made public. Otherwise vivacious and bubbly, she has stopped interacting with people on the sets too. "Everyone in the crew knows that she is going through a bad phase. She just keeps mum. She just finishes her work quickly and goes back to her daughter," says source on the sets. WHAT'S WITH RAJA CHAUDHARY ? Raja Chaudhary seems to have lost the plot, somewhere. Not only did he beat up his wife, he publicly disgraced himself by crossing the line with a reporter who wanted some bytes from him. Insecure and unemployed, Raja knows that it is too late to make amends especially since Shweta, who's the breadwinner of the family, has decided to go ahead with a divorce. Apparently, he has started acting strangely with his friends too. Says a close friend of Raja, "Raja has realised that whatever he is, is because of his wife. He has been messaging Shweta constantly. In fact, he swears by their daughter Palak to get Shweta back. In fact, he says Shweta can't deprive Palak from a doting father like him. But it's all in vain. He is yet to get any reply to his several messages, from Shweta." Amongst other things, he has been seen dancing on the streets in a fit of madness singing 'Raja paagal ho gaya'. "I think Shweta's leaving him has made him go crazy," our source adds.

Mumbai, June 20: Actress Shweta Tiwari, Prerna of Kasautii Zindagi Kay to television viewers, has filed for divorce.

Her husband Raja Chaudhary has confirmed that he received a divorce notification from Shweta's lawyer soon after she filed a police complaint against him.

Shweta lodged non-cognisable complaints on June 15 and 16 against her husband of seven years at Malad police station, citing physical abuse.

The actress has been silent since then, but some of her industry friends spoke about her plight on condition of anonymity.

Sources close to Shweta said Raja was violent, jealous and insecure and that she had been tolerating the harassment for the past two years because of her seven-year-old daughter Palak. Shweta, now staying with her aunt, blamed Raja's heavy drinking for the decline in their relationship.

Raja fought with her often over her hectic schedule and blamed her for not giving him and their daughter enough time.

Believed to be a chain smoker and a heavy drinker, Raja has a liver ailment that led to the couple's withdrawal from the TV dance show Nach Baliye-2.

Raja denied the allegations of physical abuse, but said: 'If she (Shweta) wants a divorce, she will have it. I will not even fight for the custody of my child.'

'I don't know how all this happened,' he said.

'We had been on a holiday to Lonavala just last week. On Saturday, she returned from her shoot with her lawyer and her friend from Balaji (Telefilms), Saket, and asked me to go to Malad police station with them. I couldn't even talk to her,' Raja claimed.

'They kept saying I was drunk. I don't understand. If I was really harassing her, shouldn't she have gone to the cops earlier?'

Sources on the sets of Kasautii, however, painted a different picture of Raja, who said he 'still loves his wife'.

'Raja has been on the sets and even shouted at Shweta a couple of times in full view of other actors. He always wanted to take control of the situation and as his wife achieved success, his temper got worse,' a source said.

In 2005, actress Dolly Bindra filed a sexual harassment case against Raja after his alleged misbehaviour at a party thrown by actor Anuj Saxena. At that time, Shweta defended her husband to the surprise of most industry insiders. They thought their relationship had already deteriorated by then.

Saket Sawney of Balaji Telefilms, who had accompanied the couple to the police station, refused to elaborate.

'Yes, I was there when Shweta filed the complaint, but there's nothing more to say. The matter is sub-judice and I don't think it's appropriate to comment on it,' he said.

This is not the first time an actress has had to pay the price for her success.

Actress Usha Bachani, a known face in serials like Kkusum and Ek Ladki Anjani Si, gave up acting at the peak of her career for marriage in 2000.

Raja Chowdhary and Shweta Tiwari's marriage being on the rocks has been making news ever since Shweta Tiwari filed a complaint against him for abuse. But Raja still believes the issue has been blown out of proportion. He is particularly upset with Ekta Kapoor's Balaji production house. "Some guy called Saket is meddling into our matters. He's from Balaji production house. They have provided her with a bodyguard and a lawyer. This lawyer has asked her to not communicate with me. I haven't been able to speak to her at all. I don't know why they are interfering in our matter ," he says, adding, "People instead of trying to build a home are intent on breaking it. They are misleading her. I hope she realises that. Right now, I have spoken to her mother and I hope she helps me persuade Shweta to come back. I want Shweta back... anyhow."

Raja acknowledges the fact they had a huge argument four days ago. "We did have a huge argument, but I did not hit her. Around four years ago, we had a huge fight when I slapped Shweta and she slapped me back. I broke some things in the house and she broke a few more, we realised that this was a futile exercise and made up then."

It has also been reported that Raja has a drinking problem . "I used to drink a lot, but I quit drinking after a major illness during Nach Baliye 2," he says. So why are they having these problems then? "We were thinking of having another kid that's why I wanted her to quit Kasautii Zindagii Kay, which she refused. That's why we had a fight. I don't want my kids to be brought up by maids," he says. Raja says that their daughter Palak is completely unaware of what's happening between the couple. He says, "She doesn't know anything about the fight. She thinks we are staying apart for work reasons. I hope we get over this for her sake." People close to Shweta say that Raja is misusing Shweta's money. But Raja says, "When Shweta was busy and I was relatively free, I was managing the house. No one points that the house, the cars and our office have been registered in her name. She never questioned me if I asked her to sign on a cheque. But of late things seem to have changed. And that's only because of the people around her. The moment she stops being Shweta Tiwari and becomes Shweta Chowdhary we'll be a happy family," he says.

Apparently trouble in the marriage started when Shweta was linked to co-star Cezzane Khan. But Raja feels otherwise. "Shweta never got along with him and we used to laugh about the rumour. Also recently it was reported that Shweta caught me with the actress of my film Kuch Khel Kuch Masti, but that's not true either," says Raja.

Raja hopes for a reconciliation. "We will talk to each other after 8-10 days. But this time she'll have to make the first move. I'll be most willing to follow her. If she wants a divorce I'll give her that too. I know we all make mistakes, but we should look beyond them," he concludes.

Raja Chaudhary, whose wife Shweta left him over the weekend after reporting him for abusive behaviour, on Thursday made the astonishing claim that the drama was a stunt for the promotion of his film. Speaking from Meerut over the phone, Raja said: "It was a prank played by me and my daughter. We were promoting our film, in which I am playing a negative role."


When told that his wife was still estranged from him and his own abusive behaviour was documented on television, Raja said: "Now go to Malad police station (where Shweta registered her case) and they will tell you the truth."

Of Shweta's separation, he said: "Yes, she is filing for divorce, but that is in our film not in real life." Raja said when he revealed to Shweta that his abuse of her was a "prank" and a stunt, "she started crying. And then we laughed over it."

"Right now all is fine between us; in fact nothing happened between us in the first place."

Asked why he was in Meerut when he should be in Mumbai for the reconciliation with Shweta, Raja said: "I'm in Meerut to promote two of my movies. We're staying in a hotel just like that, though I have a big home here in Meerut."

"Though Shweta and I are not physically together, we are together in our hearts. Shweta is joining me on July 6."

He said his only partner in this "prank" was his 6-year-old daughter, Palak. "Only Palak knew what I was doing," he said.

Raja was normal while he said this, but at times he rambled. "Another reason we did all this is that we were facing problems getting a visa for Shweta. We are going to the US for our English film. We wanted to publicise her name as Shweta Chaudhary instead of Shweta Tiwari (by which name she is famous). Now I realise that it was a really bad prank and I will never do this again. But I am pleased to see how our fans love us and care for our family. I love Shweta so much."

Shweta refused to reply to Raja's new line. In an interview with us earlier this week, she said she had tolerated his drunken ranting for two years but that she had had enough of him now.

Tejaswini Kolhapure lashes out at rumours linking her with Shweta Tiwari's husband Raja Chowdhary.
"It's all baseless," says actress Tejaswini Kolhapure, reacting to rumours that she is responsible for the break-up of Kasautii Zindagi Kay's actress Shweta Tiwari and Raja Chowhary's marriage. Recently there was buzz linking her with Raja and that Shweta was miffed because of their close relationship. "I was shocked to read that I was blamed for it all," says Tejaswini, who feels that "all this is done to get cheap publicity ." She further says, "I know him for the past two weeks but have hardly interacted with him. The way everything has been written about their marriage, by now everyone knows what the truth is," she says.

Tejaswini, who is married to writeractor-director Pankaj Saraswat, and Raja were doing a play, Chandramukhi v/s Paro, where Raja was playing Devdas and she, Paro. It was alleged that Shweta found out that Raja and Tejaswini were flirting with each other. It was also reported that the two were spotted at a restaurant and Shweta also found evidence in the form of text messages in his mobile.

"I don't want to give any clarification to what has been written because if I say something, it will lead to another," says Tejaswini. "When there is no truth to it, then why should I react?" she asks. "My interaction with Raja was on a professional level. And now that he is not playing Devdas, the producers are looking out for someone else to replace him."
