Comparison was bound to happen between the two seasons of Bigg Boss. The first season was a virgin format on Indian television and hence a kind of learning experience, both for viewers as well as the housemates. No one was aware of its entertainment quotient and how the game would pan out. But the second season of Bigg Boss which replaced the disruptive property Fear Factor Khatron Ke Khiladi was expected to be a bigger and better fare than season one, both in terms of housemates and content.

However, Bigg Boss 2, despite Shilpa Shetty as host and some talked about celebrities in the house, hasn't turned out to be as exciting and entertaining as expected. "Nothing is happening," sighs Kashmeera Shah who was the touted as the bitchiest in the first season. It's quiet so far. It might become interesting later but I am surprised that people haven't opened up even after three weeks of staying in the house."

Kashmeera feels Sambhavna is trying to create drama. But you need right people to react. "With most people on the quieter side, the show seems to be a big bore," she adds.
Speaking diplomatically, Baba Sehgal is of the view that Bigg Boss 2 is on par with the first season. "Over all, the show seems fairly interesting," he says. But Deepak Parashar, the oldest housemate in season one, disagrees. "Bigg Boss 1 was a novelty. The selection of housemates was good. But in Bigg Boss 2 the housemates don't make an interesting pack." In Kashmeera's view, "The characters are a big letdown." Adds Deepak, "It looks like people have come with a definite purpose of changing their tarnished image."

Sony's business head Albert Almeida says, "Bigg Boss is an interesting format which needs an interesting mix of people to create good content. People with problems don't make interesting characters. The Aryan-Anupama love track, Rakhi-Kashmeera fight and the Carol-Ravi Kishen-Rahul Roy gang kept things on the boil." Albert doesn't regret that Sony to Colors. It is an interesting show but it is not consumed by the hardcore GEC viewer," he says. Bigg Boss 2 opened with 2.5 TVR and the next week's average was 2.1. In comparison, season one's ratings averaged between 2 and 3 TVRs with intermittent highs of 3.5 and 4.
