We all lie to our parents about something or the other.
There exists no one who has not spoken atleast one lie to his/het parents. There is a huge difference between the comparison you are drawing.
As i have mentioned before in some thread, her father was a well known legal luminary. So, it comes as no surprise that he must have wanted her to pursue a professional course /degree and do a conventional job (the thing thats still followed in normal middle class families, and here we are talking about a time which was much more orthodox). She has said in many of her interviews that her parents weren't thrilled with her idea of pursuing acting and wanted her to complete her graduation first. She was interested in acting and wanted a career in the same.
Sometimes, in order to not hurt your loved once, you are forced to feed them a lie in order to save from a heartache. She knew her not completing education would be huge blow to her father and she didn't want to be a reason for giving him that pain. She did what she felt was right. She did what she thought would not only make her father happy, but would also help her in pursuing her own dream of being in the entertainment industry.
Yes, she lied but we don't know the circumstances in which she lied. Given the time period and social aspects of that time, i think we should give her the benefit of the doubt. It still is a huge deal in middle class families and parents force their kids to pursue things that do not interest them. We cannot judge her for something she did to prevent her parents from a possible hurt.
And, about the vikas thing. Its quite a funny conclusion that you drew. She lied to her parents because she had no option (possibly). We don't know what went down with Vikas and her. So, lets not deduct anything.
