There are 3 simple reasons: all three are justified.
1. As a Muslim, she isn't supposed to. Those who will oppose will oppose, but this is the truth. As a Roman catholic, I have good authority to state that this is justified. Those who cite asif as an eg or whatever, need to freshen their knowledge. He must have danced by virtue of being a Bengali.
2. Periods.

If he can do it, why can't she?
If I were in that position, I would not have prayed too. She was respectful and wore the sari and all, but participating is a big no-no. Ppl should understand other cultures b4 accusing her.
This is my view, not going to come back and defend it.
Last but not least, ITS HER CHOICE. let her be.
