I agree with some points but honestly don't see Upen as any worse than other housemates.
Some wouldn't even spare him when he went into a tub of cow crap to help the housemates with a task.
That he was doing it for popularity and had other wicked motives in mind.
That's true. People have been unfair to him. And he doesn't deserve that much criticism - especially because there are individuals far more deserving of criticism than him in the house.
But you have to look at this as being an inadvertent result of the story-lines that the show projects. Some people are immediately placed on pedestals and made heroes; some are bullied time and time again (even by the host of the show) and cast as the villains. There is no balance and no parity in the show - so your expectations that Upen will be treated fairly are almost utopian - too idealistic, I say.
And then there are the people who latch onto the stories - and with one dimensional zeal voice out their opinions. For this too, there is no cure...
In the end, the people who choose to take part in such shows have to bear the risk of being misunderstood and harshly judged. There is nothing that can be done about this - except knowing that the opinion of people is insignificant - especially those who only have a narrow, one-dimensional view of the world and everything in it.
