I disagree. I don't want to sound classist ... but just stating facts.

People might buy a detergent or cream after watching a saas bahu serial, but they can actually buy a car or insurance after watching BB. And not even during ad, but they can place brands on the house too. A lower TRP doesnt affect BB budget. It one of the most profit making shows in country.

Yeah thats very true. Advertisers heavily consider segmented trps based on economic demographics. Channels like Star World and other niche networks, which primarily cater to the upper middle class & higher class can generate significant revenue despite lower trps. However their overall revenue still falls short compared to Hindi GECs. These channels manage to stay afloat because most of their content consists of foreign shows and local networks acquire telecast rights at a much lower cost than producing original content.

BB on the other hand is a local production, making it significantly more expensive than daily soaps. The production cost can reach 70-80 lakhs per episode and for weekend episodes featuring Salman Khan, the cost exceeds a crores. Factoring in Salman’s weekly fee and the per ep production budget, BB’s weekly expenses could total around 20-22 cr. Despite drawing in a niche audience, the trps often arent high enough to offset these expenses. While the show secures sponsorship deals and generates some revenue through jiocinema, its primary income source remains tv advertisements, which contribute the largest share of revenue.

(250÷15 = 16.6 cr per week + additional 4-5cr budget of weekly episodes)

However, the current TRPs are insufficient to cover the full budget and turn a profit. For BB to be profitable, the weekly average TRP needs to reach at least 1.5, with weekend episodes surpassing 2+ due to Salman Khan’s presence. Without hitting these numbers, profitability remains elusive.

Seasons 11, 13, and 16 achieved these TRP levels, which is why they were blockbuster seasons. In contrast, seasons like BB14, 17, and 10 performed decently, managing to recover budgets and make slight profits.

Seasons 11, 13 and 16 managed to achieve these trp benchmarks resulting in blockbuster success. Conversely seasons like BB14, 17 and 10 performed moderately well recovering costs and generating minimal profit. Meanwhile seasons 9 and 12 were flops because their TRPs werent high enough to break even and this season seems to be heading in the same direction as seasons 9 and 12.

Daily soaps operate on a much lower budget of around 15-20 lakhs per episode. With consistent TRPs of 2 or higher, they effortlessly recoup costs and generate profit. For example Anupamaa with trps around 2.5, charges approximately 2 lakh for a 10 sec ad spot. Given that ad breaks during a 30 minute ep run for over 8 mins, the show earns around 96 lakhs per episode, comfortably covering production costs and generating substantial profits.

(8×60= 480seconds, 48 ad spots of 10 sec period, 48×2= 96 lakhs ad revenue for 1 episode).
