Many countries in the world (especially the developed world) such as most European countries went for a monolingual linguistic policy - one nation, one language. Many of them also had other languages but slowly most of them died a slow death, with the older generations that spoke it dying and some language speakers are still waging independence movements based on their different linguistic and cultural identity because a language is not just a language but the expression of an entire culture and ethos.
India chose to keep its myriad languages alive and kicking by choosing a multilingual linguistic policy.
I quite like the idea of keeping languages alive. So am happy with what's happening in India because despite all these differences, there indeed is unity in diversity. There is something that unites us all, i.e. being Indian.
Sorry guys for taking off like this on a totally unrelated topic to BB but well India does not have a Rashtrabhasha and DaddyMarvel did the right thing to point this out!
Roshan this is for you - 🤗
