Are we too spoiled or our taste just degraded as viewers?

The other day, I was watching some clips from older Bigg Boss seasons, while watching those older seasons, I realized something. During that time, audiences used to root for houseguests who were dignified, calmer, would not engage much in fights, do their share of household chores properly, perform in tasks, less dramatic, genuine, kind, ie Rahul Roy, Ashutosh, Shweta Tiwari. But nowadays those nature of houseguests are termed as boring, freeloaders and useless. Bigg Boss makers do their share of cheating to reduce their value on the show, then evict them, mostly by manipulation. I'll take some names -Nishant, Sara Gurpal of this season comes freshly to mind who were unfairly evicted as they did not fit into what makers expected from them.

But if we look at it, makers are not really at fault, they are providing what the audience demand to watch. The audiences laud people like Sidharth Shukla -a violent male chauvinist narcissist bully, Arshi Khan -a foul mouthed, homophobic, bully, Shilpa Shinde -a homophobic, bully, Sreesanth -another violent male chauvinist narcissist, Manveer -another male chauvinist with backward mentality and I could go on and on. While a gentleman like Abhinav is ridiculed, mocked, made fun of, name called by the host himself who is supposed to be fair, by the fellow houseguests and also audiences.

With every passing seasons of Bigg Boss, the standard of the show and also the standard of Bigg Boss viewing audiences is going down, it includes me as well. Why do the audience at large considers such dirt as entertainment, which includes pushing, shoving, abusing parents, bullying, making homophobic remarks, mental harassment etc, and not only that we even reward them for their inappropriate behavior by making them the most popular houseguests or even the winner. While demean and thrash genuine human beings like Abhinav.

Had Abhinav been on season 1, he'd win, as audience back then appreciated niceness and kindness. In today's time, people like Abhinav have zero value. But for me, Abhinav is the true winner.

Earlier, I used to promote and root for good people as I had feeling that show is not scripted. Now , I am 100 percent sure it is scripted so no harm to support or promote the negative characters or who bring the humour or masalla to the show. Nothing is real now , including the viewers and forum members.

There used to be times when we will discuss each and every word of our favourites and support them. Now , only fun and fun, so enjoy this scripted drama.

Before BB was about celebs surviving in a house now it's all about drama. Nothing looks real. It's same as if they are playing a role. I miss the old BB.

The taste of the viewers has definitely changed...

10 years back if someone chose their parents over this shitty show....they would have been lauded and not ridiculed....

A much needed post!👏

It's so sad when I see ppl rooting for Arshi and calling names and insulting Abhinav.

Eating fruits and talking about science is suddenly considered worse than giving gaalis.

Yep, standards have changed and BB team themselves pushed it standard down. BB started doing nomination tasks sometimes where you nominate not based on who you dislike but rather who you think is not contributing to the show. They realized they want all their housemates to basically being in drama and views, even though the original concept is about the PLAYERS and how they choose to survive in the house.

BB would like to turn this into a daily soap now with a classic villain, sob stories, love story, etc.

Most housemates are not genuine and those who start yelling on day 1 and doing nautanki are the ones who full on have studied what BB wants in a contestant. BB will never eliminate a dramatic/negative person in the beginning.

Like I said earlier, Abhinav would've 100% stood out in any season where they had a lot of people who were dramatic/annoying/over the top.

Or maybe our taste evolved with time & we started appreciating people who actually provides entertainment & not boredom?

Besides the contestants you mentioned did not stand the test of time, they're forgotten, they weren't even the most memorable characters from their seasons. Rakhi, Sambhavna, Payal, Raja, Rahul Mahajan, Dolly, Veena, Ashmit were the most memorable characters from those seasons, who are still talked about to this day.

@bold others I can agree but manveer was not at all a chauvinist. He was a very good and entertaining person and he deserved to win that season😊. About other people I can agree

Manveer was super homophobic, remember him making nasty comments against Rohan's sexuality & making fun of his looks (hinting he looks feminine).

He was a low level MCP (not extreme), and said many problematic things on his season.
