10 times Rubina Dilaik proved that she's the boss

Amidst the maddening pressure of work , I started watching Big Boss Season 14 after 7 years ( Yes, the last season I watched was season 7 when Gauhar Khan won) and from the first week itself , I was drawn to Rubina Dilaik who came across as a firm,attractive and resilient woman whom everyone is weary of as she threatens male supremacy and I am writing this as a man who has 3 very self sufficient and confident sisters who have often been subjected to criticism from both male/female members of the society who find them intimidating, bossy and unwomanly. I am fortunate that my parents brought us up equally and feminism was not even a topic of discussion. There was nothing that my sisters could not do which I could. So, I instantly connected with Rubina who defies the societal norms and is unapologetically steadfast and commanding as any man would. I had no idea who she was before the show as I don't watch Tv Serials, so for me she was like a breath of fresh air.

In this post, I would like to recount 10 anecdotes on the show which proves that Rubina is the ultimate Boss. These are situations when she completely stole the show and shone like a diamond completely eclipsing her housemates.

1. When she demanded the description of Seven Items from Seniors and went against all other HM's including her husband

Big Boss is all about fighting for your rights, Rubina was the only one perched outside the house for 5 days as she was one of the rejected candidates initially. Upon entering the house, she demanded an explanation from other housemates about how the 7 items are demarcated which they would get daily from Hina Khan, the senior ruling over BB Mall. The other housemates tried to shut her up saying its already discussed but she put her point across authoritatively because she felt that 3 different items can be clubbed and considered as one ( Remember, Salwar Kameez?) as there is no hardcoded rule written in the rulebook! The other daft housemates did not even think in that direction and called her stupid but actually it was her who found this loophole. Had they supported her and protested together and stood up against the Seniors and BB, things would be different, after all the show is about putting your foot down and get your work done someway or the other! She was the one who understood this and revolted against the seniors all alone! The camera beautifully focused on her cherubic face when she was sitting outcast in the garden! That very moment , I understood that this girl has it in her!

2. When she went against Big Boss Himself and denied doing the "Kachra Task"

Big Boss throws a volley of illogical and self deprecating tasks at housemates , one of which was the "Kachra Task" which I personally found extremely offensive as Rubina had done nothing dirty or obnoxious to deserve this task. The activity was basically for the HM's to compare her and Nikki Tamboli and declare "Who has more shit(Kachra) in their mind" . Rubina firmly stood her ground and denied the task saying that her "mind is beautiful" and "not a bin of garbage" and she finds it extremely wrong because Big Boss himself considered her to be one of the candidates for this derogatory task. I was silently clapping for her and my admiration doubled just for taking this stand! Later on , as usual the host intervened and made her do the task giving cockamamie reasons( he was stumped himself and trying to find reasons to justify this task) but nonetheless she clearly sent out the message that she wont be party to anything and everything BB thrusts on her. Bravo!

3. When She expressed her displeasure over a comment from the Host and demanded to exit from the show

Salman Khan has been hosting the show for over 10 years now and he has his own style of engaging with the housemates but often we have seen him going overboard . This time he did the same when he called Rubina's husband Abhinav Shukla her "Saman" ( luggage) as he was not being active on the show. Rubina being a woman with self respect , took offense and expressed her displeasure and shock over that unsavory comment. Any wife would be offended if her husband is being insulted on national television and she had the courage, fearlessness and fortitude to go against the host, channel and creatives all together to protect the image of her most loved one. This was the day, I totally fell in love with her! Usually, we see sycophants on Weekend ka Var trying to impress Salman Khan but Rubina is an exception!

4. When She became a mischievous angel and owned the "Angel Vs Demons" Task

If there's one task where Rubina was the undeniable highlight then "Shaitan(Angel) vs Farishtey(Demons)" pops into our mind immediately. As the mischievous angel , Rubina was a ball of laughter completely overshadowing the screechy devils and the other tepid angels . She displayed her comic timing impeccably and used her presence of mind to win over the defiant Shaitans when they forced her to obey their orders. Even though the Farishtey's lost in this task owing to the non performance from her fellow team members, Rubina stood out and was unanimously praised by all and sundry (minus the haters of course who think global warming is caused by Ruby) which included her nemesis Rahul Vaidya and Celebrity house guest Farah Khan. Whenever I am in a bad mood, I watch that episode and roll into laughter!

5. When She became the Sassy Queen of Hearts in the Black King VS Red Queen Task

According to me , this task was a gamechanger as it pitted the arch rivals against each other unabashedly. Rubina, the Queen of Red hearts(Undeniably) was up against Rahul who became the King of Black Hearts and both of them had to employ other housemates as workers in their respective teams. Rubina's so called friends Jasmine and Aly ditched her in no time but she was quick to form an alliance with Pavitra and Eijaz ! A brilliant move I would say as Eijaz and Rubina were not in good terms until then .The doomed task turned into an ugly brouhaha with acidic expletives renting the air but Rubina kept her calm and countered the Black King with her flawless arguments served in pure Hindi which puzzled the King ( Remember Uljulul?) whose only resort was making derogatory or sexist comments( Remember tan man ?) . This was the task which clearly showed the contrast between the two personalities who are up against one another even in Fan Wars on Social Media, one with dignity and integrity and the other with unapologetic brashness, each has its own set of followers. The highlight for me was the moment when she snatched a black heart from the unruly king and thrashed it into two pieces! I was jumping with joy and rolling on the floor!

6. When She exposed Jasmin in the Two Sisters Task

Rubina being the analytical and observing person could sense that Jasmin was pretending to be a friend for a long time. Although she had supported her baby voiced housemate of Khatron ki Khiladi fame time and again, there was no reciprocation. Their tensile dynamics exploded in the "Batwara"( house property split) task when Big Boss pitted them against one another resulting in Fireworks . For me this task was a huge relief as Rubina was finally free from the fake friendship offered by Jasmin. Upon Aly's entry, Jasmin became a different person and slowly started deviating from Abhinav-Rubina who had protected her till then. Initially , Rubina was in denial and kept on supporting her but finally she gave Jasmin a piece of her mind and skillfully unmasked her true face without any semblance of phoniness which the latter employs especially on Weekend ka Var. Rubina was disappointed with her husband who failed to detect the malice in their so called friend but was unstoppable when it came to expressing her anger and frustration over a failed friendship . According to me, this outburst was authentic emanating from a place of hurt which Jasmin till date has been using to demonize Rubina.

7. When She displayed her numerous talents on the show

Rubina is an excellent performer and I got to see her varied range as an artiste in 3 particular performances. First, the dance on "Maiyya Maiyya" where my expression matched that of Aly while he saw Rubina shimmy like a trained dancer in the Diwali special WKV. She was dancing in plain clothes against a decked up Kavita but the camera focused only on Ruby! If you go to Youtube and visit the song, don't forget to check the comments section, its full of love for her as many discovered the song only because of this performance. Secondly, who can forget her hilarious impersonification of Pavitra through which she impressed the Czarina of Television-Ekta Kapoor who rewarded her with an immunity Stone. Last but not the least, she became a standup comedian for a task on WKV and roasted her fellow housemates. She was the only one who knew her script by heart and did not need to read it out. Her jokes were crisp and packed a punch.

8. When She gracefully defended her husband over the "Friends with Benefit" Comment

For me the love for Rubina is equally matched with respect for her . There have been many times when she has not used words but mere action to prove her mettle. Kavita and Aly had a nasty tussle and as a true friend she sided with Aly and gleefully admitted that she would always choose her friends even if they are in the wrong. Such honesty is not rewarded in the duplicitous house but outside for the audience, well at least for me, it counts. She had done the same for Jasmine in the fiasco with Rahul in the "World Tour" task so her philosophy cannot be questioned. Even though she chose a side, she went and asked Kavita whether she is doing alright but Kavita went personal and retorted with a distasteful personal remark which everybody knows about. Any wife would be enraged by such a comment but Rubina knowing that they are on national television kept her cool and chose not to make it a public showdown. I am sure she would take it up later with her husband outside the BB house , the way it should be done between a couple.

9. When She gave it back to Kavita

For me the highlight of the first half of Big Boss Season 14 was the fight between Rubina and Kavita. The latter left no stone unturned to make the former's life miserable inside the house with her acrylic taunts about an alleged past clandestine relationship with Abhinav. She spewed venom remorselessly as if she was settling an old score with Ruby's love of life. Ruby was anything but warm to Kavita and even saved her from nomination but yet again her kindness was not reciprocated. Kavita's unprecedented remarks left her in a tizzy and this time she responded with guns. Rubina who is petite compared to a tall and sturdy Kavita did not feel threatened by her and zapped her with her pent up fury befuddling Kavita who chose to vamoose from the house. The way Rubina charged after her like a lioness was a sight to behold, a sherni indeed. I was whistling throughout the episode.

10. When She showed Courage to disclose her Deep Dark Secret

Last but not the least, I admire her for staying true to the game and go by her instincts and honesty when it came to the lousiest task of this season- Secret Revelation to get the immunity stone . Firstly, I think it was sadistic to compare the personal struggles of people as we should respect everyone's hardships which are unique and equally valuable. Often, Rubina has said that she does not understand the game and has to be instructed like a 4 year old child but as an admirer I felt she trusted Big Boss and the channel by revealing her troubled marriage . She is someone who functions straight from the heart and she went by her gut! The other HM's and haters outside trolled her for being fake but who are we to judge anyone's marriage? Who are we to throw mud on someone's integrity?

I am sure there will be many more instances as the show progresses when she will shine like a diamond and overshadow everyone because her shine comes from within, her shine comes from her character which is unputdownable.

For me , Rubina Dilaik is the embodiment of grace, dignity and fortitude. I knew nothing about her before the show but she has attracted me by her staunch character, honesty and beauty. Moreover, I admire her sophistication, mastery over both Hindi and English Languages, her ability not to cross the line and abuse profusely every now and then to belittle anyone. I don't know if our country is ready to accept a woman like her who does not shy away from being what she is, I want to ask all her critics if they would criticize her for the same things had she been a man! She's often chided for being dominating and authoritative but these are the qualities which are admired in a man! How many years will it take for our country to reach equality in gender which we all striving for? I don't have an answer but maybe the next generation will judge a woman like her better. Maybe in the years to come both Rubina and my sisters will have an easier life .

Nonetheless, here's to many many many more days of Rubina Dilaik on Big Boss. For me , she's already the winner of Big Boss 14 as she has already captured my heart and I feel there's no one in the house who comes close to her enigma, queenly aura and charm!
