Because Asim is coming across as strong in last few episodes. I state my opinions based on what i watch.

& SM popularity is not everything. Real deal is Ormax which combines both online/offline popularity, where Shehnaz is no.2. So obviously she's very popular too herself.

Neither Asim nor Sana are directly trying to leech from him, they just get along with him. (Asim USED to, now just has some leftover feeling of respect for him) Meanwhile, Paras is trying his hardest to get some favors by aligning himself with Sid and failing beautifully, thanks to ghatiya comments, age/body shaming, and overconfidence. Paras is so good at getting on Salman's bad side! Work of art! 🤣

Shehnaz doesn't seem to have game beyond running around Shukla.Without Shukla by her side she is invisible.

Asim is playing for himself and the group of friends he made while remaining friendly with Shukla.Even in the beginning it was all thanks to continuous targeting by Sidhartha Dey and Paras earned public sympathy.Shukla didn't get along with either Paras or Dey from day1.So it's only natural that they ended up together. Shukla gained by standing up for Asim. I think both Shukla and Asim gained a lot by playing together as a team.
