Salman was absolutely right - "maine ekbar commitment kardiya toh main khud apne apka bhi naheen sunta."

The way he has clung on to that Aw-rawr-rawr Asim impression from day one, which was not even funny the first time, is truly an example of his amazing commitment. 👏

For the first couple of weeks Salman thought Asim went to Australia, so he was imitating an Australian accent (very poorly woh bhee LOL). Then, eventually, bhaijaan figured out that it was South Africa, not Australia. 😆 Around the same time, he decided to drop the accent imitation, but kept the "Australian" (please don't ask how) sound - aw-rawr-rawr-rawwr. Then, Asim showed great growth in the house, in terms of his involvement, task performance, taking stands against what he thought was wrong, and overall popularity. So, Salman started treating him a little bit better and started at least acknowledging him as human being, and not just a poor accent imitation. Then, of course, the katghera wala Weekend ka Vaar happened. It was a very serious episode, and Salman was visibly impressed by Asim's defense against Sid. So, for that weekend specifically, Salman decided he would use the aw-rawr-rawr with Asim's brother instead on the Sunday episode panel. Joh bhee ho, bhaijaan made SURE to use it. 😆 Now, one week has passed since. Even though there is a ton of Asim-related material Salman could have (in my opinion, SHOULD have) brought up, he just ignored him for the most part and just interacted with Sid, Paras, Sana, and Bhau. Asim's featuring in this episode was once again limited to just aw-rawr-rawr.

Here's the most ridiculous thing from all this - Asim doesn't even sound like that. 🤣 His english has a little American twang (mostly I think because of his hip hop influence, his lingo is full of words like 'spit' for talk, 'bro' to address other men, etc.). Mostly, it just sounds like an Americanized Indian accent. His hindi has a distinct Jammu accent, which in my opinion, sounds absolutely nothing like a foreign accent at all, Australia ho ya South African ya whatever.

So, in conclusion, I think we should all appreciate Salman for sticking so determinedly with a joke that is neither funny, nor meaningful, nor true. Now, with the extension, we can look forward to hear aw-raw-rawr for another three months. 👏

🥳 Aw-rawr-rawr-rawr-rawwwwr.

As someone who was raised in the US & Canada his accent isn't American at all. Firstly there is no American accent. Someone from Boston will not speak the same way as someone from the south.

What Asim & Priyanka Chopra have is the "What Indians consider the American accent". Only Desi's speak like that. Not sure why. Maybe to impress people back home.

Either way, Australian or SA, his accent is fake. You don't develop an accent in 6 months or even 6 years and that's what Salman is making fun of. Not his accent, but his fake accent. I find it hilarious, btw.

Hm, well I was raised in Massachussets and have lived in California my whole adult life, and I hear a very distinct American twang when he speaks English. And frankly, I think Priyanka Chopra also has an American twang (her's is more like a valley-girl accent, whereas Asim's is more like a Brooklyn prep accent). I do agree that fake accents are generally an issue in terms of colonial mindset and superiority signaling in South Asian society. But, I think people are very unfair to Priyanka on this accent thing. Some people are more impressionable than others, and for many its about when you pick up a certain cadence in your voice. Priyanka lived in Newton, MA (which is a very preppy east coast city) very briefly, yet during a formative time in life. It could be very possible that she slips in and out depending on who she's talking with. Its a basic evolutionary biological trait, known as mirroring personalities, and is actually a great subconscious way of becoming likable. Useful for movie stars like her! Plus, in the ~60 days I've seen Asim, his accent hasn't slipped one bit, so I'm inclined to believe that even if he picked it up deliberately at one point, this is his comfort cadence now, and I think that's totally fine tbh.

By the way, I've struggled with this regional vs big-picture thing all my life too as a third culture kid who travelled around because of parents work. You're absolutely right that there are regional accents, but there is a general umbrella accent most people agree on. Someone from the Northeast doesn't sound like someone from the deep south, who doesn't sound like someone from Orange County. But this is like saying a Marathi speaker speaking English doesn't sound like a Gujrati speaker speaking English, who doesn't sound like a South Indian speaking english. Its absolutely correct, but in the world outside India, there is a certain cadence known as an 'Indian accent,' the same way there is a cadence people elsewhere like to call an 'American' accent. What one thinks of as a 'British' accent is generally a South London type accent, which is vastly different from one from Manchester, which is again vastly different from a Liverpool accent.

Based on what I've heard from Asim, it sounds more American than anything else to me. But, who knows what hits people's ears differently!

Setting apart the code switching that Asim seems to be indulging in and that’s absolutely fine- one can project oneself any which way one wants to, I am a sucker for petty laughter and cheap slapstick of the Salman kind (except all toilet humour) and that too on the loop. I laugh at Paras’ antics and despite having back issues myself, I fell apart at Sana’s L2/L3 L5 and I do unapologetically laugh every single time at the awwww rwww rrrr 🤷‍♀️😆 I also laugh equally heartily at those who caricature me.

That said, Priyanka has laughed often at her own accent/s, saying she loses accents as soon as she boards flights 😆

I think its a pattern with salman ...that he is more playful with people he actually LIKES. So it should be taken as a sign of warmth for Asim. No problem. And Asim takes it in the right spirit. He is easygoing.

Yes, I am glad Asim doesn't seem to mind - unlike in the past when one can see the contestant getting uncomfortable by SK's repeated un-funny targeting. I like his confidence in that. Otherwise there's nothing a person can do but grin uneasily and just bear Sallu's silly posturing.

Same here. Being an Asim fan i enjoy whenever salman teases him with that accent. I feel he does that because he is fond of him . Its like pulling leg in a fun way . I never found that in a bad taste.

Also I don't find Asim's accent is fake. Infact he has the best way of speaking be it hindi or english and that accent is cherry on the cake

I have a different take on this

Since our Gareeb Asim, left home to do odd jobs, I assumed that he has worked for a voice based US client call centre. Customer service jobs of Intl companies across the world are outsourced to India and if we go country wise its USA,UK and Australia. The candidates who are selected get trained to speak in a particular accent specific to the country.

Infact we do make a mess while speaking to international customers as grammar goes for a toss. Apart from other issues Indians are pointed bcos we have a regional dialect which is carried forward to other languages spoken.

Amongst BB contestants, regional accents are very visible when Sana, Himanshi speak Hindi.

Can conclude that Asim recd good education in Jammu and must have dabbled with call centre jobs apart from picking a typical accent which is more focussed on the r consonant.

Apart from Asim our dear Shuklaji also speaks very much in a neutral tone without any accent. Grammar and diction is also impressive in comparison to many Mumbaikars who literally murder the language.
