Aamir Ali is the dapper looking TV actor known for the romantic lead roles he has played on television. After Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki, Kuchh Is Tara, Kya Dill Mein Hai, and his super successful participation in Nach Baliye 3 with girlfriend Sanjeeda Sheikh, the actor is back with Bhaskar Bharti.
In town to shoot for a commercial, Aamir was game for a quick chat with Bangalore Mirror. "I have come here to shoot a commercial with Prakash Varma, the Producer –Director of Nirvana Films," he says. (Nirvana Films are the makers of the lovable Zoozoos that caught the nation's imagination during the IPL.)
ROMCOM PLUS DRAMARAMA
Talking about his role in Bhaskar Bharti, Aamir says, "I didn't have anything specific in mind. So personally, I am happy doing this serial." Ask him about what genre the serial would fit into and he says, "It is a romantic-comedy-drama. It is like a televised format of Munnabhai and has a bit of romance, comedy and drama."
One wouldn't be wrong to suppose that it was Nach Baliye 3 that brought him and his girlfriend Sanjeeda Sheikh to nation-wide prominence. So when we quiz him on what's the biggest change the show has brought into his life, Aamir says, "Life was low key before and there has been a huge change because of Nach Baliye. I have been travelling a lot because of my shows. I have been earning a lot!" and ends on a serious note, "And I am getting a lot of love."
WINNING IS A DIFFERENT HIGH
Expressing his views on the reality show outbreak happening today, Aamir says, "A good show comes once in a while and becomes a hit." On how the shows affect stardom, Aamir feels that, "Non–celeb actors in reality shows become famous while they are on air. The benefit we actors get is that people remember us more than non-celebs as we are back to doing serials."
Ask him if the reality shows take some gloss away from serials and soaps and he denounces it stating, "A good serial can't be a flop. Just like a movie which is good is a hit. It doesn't flop." On what he loves about reality shows he confesses that, "Nach Baliye is the only reality show that I have done. I was super scared and petrified initially but winning is a different high altogether. I only have fond memories of the show and remember only the good points."
I AM LUCKY
What does he like about acting in serials where he has to play a role day in and day out? Aamir says, "It is tricky and you have to keep yourself entertained. Along with my acting, I play cricket on the set and try video games too." He reasons, "Every job we do, be it a journalist's to a cricketer's, can get monotonous after a while. It depends on the individual to keep the interest alive."
"When I came in, TV was already booming," he says about how the TV industry has changed since the time he entered. "I didn't have to go through a bad phase. Reality shows were just starting then. Nach Baliye used to be my favourite reality show and I wished that I could dance in it. So being called for it and winning was a dream come true," he says.
KEEPING THE ROMANCE ALIVE
The actor is currently busy only with Bhaskar Bharti, which by his own admission is keeping him busy 20 to 25 days of the month. If not that, he is busy travelling around the country for dance shows. As he reveals, "I have recently started shooting for ads again and that's just about it."
So, are there any shows he likes? What show would he like to star in if it were Indianised? He replies, with an evident smile in his voice, "I love Everybody Loves Raymond. Ray Romano is really funny and I think I could do his role well. I also like F.R.I.E.N.D.S and I would love to play Joey."
And finally about how the dishiest couple keeps the romance alive, Aamir rather matter-of-factly reveals, "We manage to meet up at least 3 to 4 times a week. We catch up whenever we can. We don't plan, it just happens. That is because we want to be together and so, it just flows."
