Chapter 3
The trip back to Bijolia was a calm one and relatively fast as well as they entourage did not take a break in between the entire journey. Ajabde spent the journey reading one of her Granths throughout in her palki whereas her brothers decided to race with each other to see who was the fastest of them all even Shakti joined them in the endeavour as a competitor but as they all entered the palace the atmosphere changed their moods
Ajabde left to rest in her chambers whereas her male counterparts met with Rao Mamrakh ji in the courtroom where they realised he looked rather tensed and worried and on enquiring the reason he said,
Kunwar Pratap the Afghans are approaching the borders of Bijolia and they have already taken over the nearby villages and settled themselves our spies inform us that their leader Baadshah Khan is on his way and that after his arrival they intend on launching an attack on Bijolia. I have already alerted Rawatji and security at the borders have also been increased with regular patrols taken by me and other members from Mewar as well but that is not what is troubling us
Pratap and Shakti looked at him curiously and he said with a heavy heart, it seems like we have a traitor amongst ourselves as the villages that have been plundered and destroyed were all well protected but the attack took place at the precise time of guards changing also the Afghans are well informed of all of our protective details at the borders

Pratap refused and claimed he was tired but in reality he refused because he knew that Ajabde was fasting and she would not to be having food either unaware that everyone knew his reason for declining dinner was a farce as they all knew he would eat at mid-night when she would break her fast
At mid-night Pratap snuck into Ajabde's room and saw her performing her puja she always looked so calm and serene sitting in front of her Kanhaji, he quietly placed the plate of food on the table nearby and sat waiting for her to join him. He observed her as she worshipped the moon and then came to sit beside him and then looked at him expectantly - he picked up the glass of water and made her drink first followed by making her eat the Prasad and finally together both of them took a piece of chapatti dipped with dal and fed each other breaking their fasts, if it were to him he would fast like she did without having a single drop of water but he couldn't as it would harm her and her reason for performing the fast would be void she had told him seriously when he had first kept the fast with her he disagreed with her reasoning but on seeing her wet eyes he gave up he just could not win against her and her eyes (especially the wet ones)
What happened in the court room? Everyone looked worried even Bhai Balwant was tensed she asked him, he didn't know on what to say to her whether to tell her everything or just skim out details, he decided for the latter as it would allow him to say the truth but not worry her to the extent if she knew about Bhatiyiani's return
Well Rao Mamrakh ji was worried about the Afghans who have settled nearby Bijolia's borders it seems like there will be a war soon he said calmly, she was quite perspective and knew Pratap was hiding something from her but she did not pressure him to tell her when the time was right he would himself tell her everything he always did
It's going to be alright Ajab we are well prepared to fight these Afghans and besides after the war we will be getting married he reminded her of their pending nuptials and she smiled warmly at him.

Baadshah Khan was a shrewd and dangerous fellow he always achieved his goals no matter the means he used to get it. He had no interest in that small state of Bijolia until he found out about their special princess and her status if he were to believe the stories who ever she married would invariably be the ruler of the entire Rajputana and his greed for that power brought him to Bijolia, he had even stepped in that small state and inspected everything himself and remembered his first vision of the princess she was not one call gorgeous but rather she had a subtle beauty that would come out when she would be decked in the finest clothes and jewellery
His thoughts were interrupted when he was informed of the messenger's arrival from Bijolia the messenger was Parvat Das an old man who served as an advisor to the current Samant and gave all the inside news to him in exchange for gold coins and a fake promise of allowing him to live after he (Baadshah Khan) had won Bijolia, the fool did not understand that he was a dispensable object and once he got what he desired he himself would behead him and leave him to rot
Parvat Das was a cunning fellow he was Dheer Bai's secret helper who did all her biddings and was also involved in the cruel plan against princess Ajabde that took place 8 years ago, when she had returned for vengeance after 5years of banishment he was shocked and scared but he had gone underground and surfaced after Maldev's death. His story of losing his entire family during that time due to the plague was bought by everyone including Ajabde herself and since then he was acknowledged as an elder member of the family which suited him just fine as he was able to gather intel and assist Dheer Bai in her hiding and now she was back prepared to work along Afghans to destroy the entire Mewar family beginning with Pratap and the only way to destroy Pratap was to kill Ajabde
Chapter 5
Back in Chittor palace Shakti and Pratap relayed Rao Mamrakh ji message to Rana Uday Singh and Rawatji who decided to send additional troops to Bijolia for safety and also ordered Pratap and Shakti to start the military training of all the soldiers as they would soon be heading out for a war
Jaiwanta Baiji and Sajja Baiji both were in deep discussion with the Raj Purohitji who told them the significance about Ajabde's last and final trip that would take place soon, the temple was in the village where she had taken refuge(on the outskirts near the dense forest ) JB was worried as it might trigger nightmares about the forest where Maldev had taken Ajabde after abducting her but SB suggested that both Pratap and Shakti along with Patta and Balwant could escort her and bring her back to palace that way all the children would be able to get the blessings and also keep a look out for any sign of trouble besides all four warriors (as she lovingly called them) were chosen to be Ajabde's protective guard
JB nodded her head in approval and sent a message to Bijolia asking Hansa for the details of Ajabde's trip as JB wanted Pratap and Shakti to go to Bijolia and escort Ajabde throughout because for the past few days she had been having some rather scary dreams and she did not want her nightmares to come true. Even Purohitji had hinted at trouble times ahead of them and his constant reminder of the significance of the puja was not lost on her - their children's lives depended on them because they would not survive without the other - they might stay alive for the sake of the family but they would not live
Shakti loved his mother dearly and immensely but whenever she called him Kunwar Shakti or Shakti Beta he wanted to run in the opposite direction because she used the former name when he was in trouble and the latter when she wanted him to get into trouble and both situations he would get caught and end up getting punished by his Daajiraj or Rawatji or both so when his called out for him Shakti Beta he pretended to be fast asleep as if he had not heard her and then he felt his mother's hand on his forehead
Ohh he fell asleep but I made his favourite sweet and brought it for him, looks like I'll be feeding this Kheer to Vikram she said sadly
Shakti shot right out of bed and screamed, I'm not sleeping Maa I was just pretending, you brought Kheer or me so I will eat it Vikram can do his paintings and then he realised his blunder and looked at his mother sheepishly who was grinning at her son's antics and just then Pratap and Vikram came in and in like a toddler style Vikram sat by Sajja Bai and proclaimed that being the youngest meant he got to have the Kheer first avoiding Shakti's annoyed glare and clung to Pratap's hand for protection but when Vikram tried to make a move for the bowl all bets were off and Shakti took after his younger brother who ran as if he was on fire followed by Pratap who promised his Maajli Ma that he would bring both his brothers back in one piece. Sajja Bai could not help but smile and prayed that everything remained like that with happiness surrounding them all the time
