It would not be an exaggeration to say that Aashka Goradia has brought Maharani Dheerbai Bhatiyani alive from the pages of history, infusing life into the character with panache. Bhatiyani, considered the epitome of beauty, is the young queen of Uday Singh who is deeply in love with her. Manipulative to the core, Bhatiyani is over ambitious about her own son Jagmal becoming the heir which is why she even plots to end Pratap's life. Though she has all the attention of Uday Singh, she does not like the attention paid to queen Jaivantabai.
'The character is close to my heart because of the essence and glamour factors it has. This is the longest innings in my career and I feel I have tried to do justice to the complexities the character is known for. It has been really difficult for me to get into the skin of the character but I took up the challenge and lived up to the expectations,'' says the beautiful actor who has been associated with the serial since its inception, for over the past one and half year. Despite knowing that the leap the serial took might make her uncomfortable, Aashka never had problems since the character demanded looking young forever'. 'Moreover it is the pivotal role that I am essaying that is important not the increasing age. And the production house as well as the team felt that my role will always have the glamour and beauty factors intact,'' the actor clarifies.
"Kirdaar show se bhi bada hota hai (the character is more important than the show) which is why we have examples of Tabu playing mother to Shahid in Haider, Anup Saxena playing the role of father and even in Kkusum, my character Kumud was more than my age.''
Explaining about how she chooses a particular role, the actor says that it is the depth that attracts her.
"It is difficult to say what one keeps in mind because despite every effort, somethings work and many things fail. We should be thankful to the social media invasion that gives us a feedback immediately as to which character clicks and which doesn't,'' clarifies Aashka adding, some characters provide an anchor to your life and playing Maharani Dheerbai has given that focus to me. 'I have achieved two things from this serial, one, I have learnt about complexity of characters and two, my Hindi has become shuddh' (refined),'' Aashka says with a smile.
A go-getter and adventure freak, Aashka does not feel that any role she has played so far can be compared to her personality. 'But yes, there are nuances in every character that I can relate to many times.''
Attributing all her success to television industry, the actor says she has achieved everything in life from the medium and would never want to leave it. 'Given a chance, I might get into films but then the role has to offer me a challenge,'' Aashka, who will be seen in a new show soon, expressed. She did not divulge the details of the show though.
A biker, the actor looks forward to do some biking in the coming year.
