The gist of it all is - do everything possible to be in good books of the boss (head of family or pride as in animal kingdom).
US - He knows he's king. He's proud and haughty about this position. He keeps asserting himself and snarls even when not needed. Right now also, though he's about to declare Pratap as Yuvraj he still keeps repeating, "Darji raj toh hum hi rahenge". He functions like any head of a group in animal kingdom - proud of himself, conscious of his powers and openly enjoying luxury of playing favourites in own family, emotions of all be damned. One small cub messed with him, and he duly kicked him out.
Bhaatiyani - Knows what "powers" to use to weaken the king and ensnares him using sex. Stays silent and feigns weakness often. Never lets king/head know that it's she who's controlling him and not the other way round!
Pratap - Cares for all. Is nearly nosy and keeps news of all (turns up at everyone's door and promises or reassures them - whether he can handle all vows or not, is another debate). Goes against his king-father but never lets him feel even for a moment that he is not the boss. He makes US compromise but only to the extent he feels US can tolerate (given his ego). He's astute enough not to hurt his father's ego or mess with him. He doesn't shy away from folding hands and begging from US, hence making US feel extra important.
He has many qualities. But has weakness of trusting people easily.
Baap ka laadla blindly loves and obeys the same woman on whose fingers his father also dances.
He'll never feel wrong about US favouring Bhaatiyani more. He'll never go against US if he knows US has chucked aside his mother. He knows who's the boss. He'll never mess with him. Never mess with the big boss or the one you can have benefit from.
He protests but never beyond a limit.
He's not that unassuming. He's conscious of his position as eldest son and future king. And in recent episodes he hasn't shied away from shouting at guards or blasting Shakti.
Jaywanta bai - Mother hen! More like a school principal. She has a position only because she's eldest. She's experienced and wise. But lacks basic "attraction" to make the boss dance to her tunes. She doesn't protest much. She does not even interfere much actively unless the matter concerns her own son. She won't resort to begging or crying and remains silent. Partly satisfied of her assured status on account of being eldest and mother of the boss' most favoured and eldest son.
Sajjabai - Child woman at best. Her definition of love for son is making pickles for him. She is a wife and queen first. Mother later. She's more absorbed in herself. Be it boss or her own brood, nothing is in her influence. She was ignorant earlier. The bit of pestering the boss which she did earlier also was thanks to Bhaatiyani's influence than her own brain or concern for her son.
She only wants to be in good books of those who matter. And that is - US, Pratap and Bhaatiyani. Her son has been kicked out but it no longer matters since he's alive and living with a rich noble
Right now also she is not concerned about her small son either. But more into trying hard to get into good books of the big boss gang.
Shakti - That overactive cub in the bunch who was foolish enough to challenge the head of the gang, the boss. He duly got kicked out. Almost like how rebel and over active cubs get either killed or left out when they mess with the bigshot animals in the pride (group). Frustrations and bias aside he is purely driven by ego. I wonder if he lashed out at the guard because of respect for his father or because of anger at the attack on his roots, his origin!
He's too small to challenge the big boss. Too young to give his mother better or comparable status as she gets in boss' group. But too eager and egoistic to even feign respect for the boss or stay silent.
It's all akin to politics and power dynamics in animal kingdom.
All seem too proud of themselves but in reality are fatalists who make big claims and in face of trouble only ring bells in front of Ek Ling Ji.
Obey the big boss (father or ancestor) and protect personal territory at all costs or ruin it if you were unable to make a place for yourself in it (ala Shakti).
This is a Nat Geo docu with humans as the stars.
