Aashka Goradia who portrays the role of Rani Bhatiani with sheer elegance and power in Sony Entertainment Television's Maharana Pratap (Contiloe Telefilms) is excited with her show topping the ratings chart on the channel. She says, "I give full credit to the channel and the production house for this achievement. Internally we were always sure that we have made a very good product which will top the charts, but honestly nobody was aware that we would reach such great heights so soon."

"Here I wish to commend the channel for they have created a superb brand slot, now rating 1.7 TVR. This was no mean task given the fact that before our historical went on air, the 10 pm slot was rating only 0.5. Compared to other GECs (General Entertainment Channels), Sony does not have secure slots which will rate 3-4 TVR come what may, except for KBC (Kaun Banega Crorepati). Sony never gets a series of shows right, but their one property rocks and it really lifts their GRP ratings. It is a nice feeling that our show has contributed to higher numbers," she expresses her thoughts.

She further adds, "Kudos to the channel for trying a new concept like Maharana Pratap at a time when other channels have spent lots of time in recreating old but very popular stories like Mahabharat and Jodha Akbar. The best part of Maharana Pratap is that we got our show up and running in only two months."

On her previous show Shubh Vivah on the same channel not doing well, Aashka states, "Every show comes with its own destiny. Personally what I felt was that they had to recreate the feel of the yesteryears hit family show,Amaanat on Zee TV, but unfortunately public could not relate to five separate tracks going on at the same time."

She goes on, "Something similar happened to Khoobsurat which is on its way out. Producers Shashi and Sumeet Mittal were striking gold on other channels, but here their story did not work. At least the creatives had the courage of conviction to cast Rohit Khurana as the ordinary looking lead, when they could have easily taken a newcomer."

In closing, Aashka says, "Last but not the least, Sony is also bringing back actors from the golden era of Indian TV i.e. Sakshi Tanwar, Ram Kapoor (Bade Acche Lagte Hain), Shakti Anand and Rajshri Thakur with our show."

Aashka, all the best for the future of Maharana Pratap!!!

I will slightly disagree with Aashka on some points about Sony "never" managing TRPs in certain shows and slots except for one property that does well (aka KBC).

In past Sony did have successful serials like Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka, Just Mohabbat, Family No. 1, Ghar Ek Mandir, Saaya, Chhoti si aasha, Choodiyan, Shaheen, Alpviram, Hum Pardesi Ho Gaye, Kanyadaan, Heena, Aahat, CID, Kusum, Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin and Kutumb.

It was only in recent years that their hold diminished in a big way and they were left to rely on CID, Crime Patrol and KBC while their fiction department went in a slump except BALH which gave them a new lease of life.

But I do agree that Maharana Pratap is a refreshing change on TV. It's a historical and not a mytho which is a safer option. Secondly it explores a figure that's revered for sure but has been ignored by mainstream media at large except for a show on DD in 90s which closed down too.

Jhansi Ki Rani and Shivaji are known a lot due to movies and shows. But it is NDTV Imagine with Chandragupta Maurya and now Sony with Maharana Pratap who've dared to showcase lives and stories of other powerful figures in history!

MP has a great cast and the visuals and aesthetic values are just outstanding! Beautiful, regal, royal and finesse in every frame.

It has a few issues on which it could improve. But it is clearly head and shoulders above the rest of the historicals we have on TV currently.

And its success is more amazing because the show has barely been promoted to the extent shows are promoted these days! It's no nonsense focus on characters, politics, battles etc. and not merely a love story or a story of rivalry alone. I hope they select worthy actors even when showing princes grown up.

Sony had promoted Jassi way more in 2003, ten years back! Than what promotions they have done for MP. Still the show has got good success in a short time. All thanks to novel subject and sheer visual opulence which is a delight to watch.

I hope Sony takes the show seriously and promotes it aggressively and also ensures more improvement and top notch cast in future.

The 10 PM slot was a masterstroke since it has no big competition except for Pyar Ka Dard Hai on SP.

I am addicted to this show now. And wish it is aired on Fridays also. I miss it a lot when it isn't aired!
