From my knowledge of TRPs it's based on a certain demographic cross-section and not the entire population. Additionally, International viewers do not count. Having said that I believe Zee is also impacted by emails and phone calls especially if it's clearly stated that its from an internationally based fan. There is an impact as can be seen from when it was under the scanner several months ago and a petition as well as email campaign and phone calls by us international fans was initiated which ultimately saved the show.
I have also mentioned in previous posts and emails to Zee as well as on their FB of their bias and deliberate sabotage of the show by not promoting it properly, treating it like a step child and deliberately placing it in a time slot where there are several TRP leaders such as Bade Acche Lagte Hai on Sony, Pratigya on Star Plus and of course Bigg Boss. Additionally, Indian audiences like opulence …they like to see celebrations of religious festivals / rituals etc and BBAT only really showed this during Diwali/Bhai Dhuj and of course Mahadevi's wedding.
Another factor is that primarily the Indian audience (and I could be wrong on this) is generally comprised of house wives (or that is what is believed) and this audience historically likes saas bahu sagas with the rich handsome suave debonair business tycoon hero and the sati savitri sacrificial without faults heroine! A strong male dominant character has rarely been shown on Indian soaps as they are always female oriented.
BBAT is the only show aside from Kasam Se's Jai Walia that had a strong male character with a "don't give a damm" attitude which was the reason it appealed to me. The characters of Guddu and Runjhun appealed to me because they BOTH have flaws and even now Guddu is not a character to be led around like a puppy dog by his wife despite loving her immensely. I hope this remains so through BBAT's (hopefully long) life.
I think we fans of BBAT need to continually go on to their feedback page (Zee India) and convey our positive feelings of the show and let CVs know what tracks we want to see. All we can do is try and hope for the best…we have come this far so there is some impact … we even complained about Himmanshoo and Nivedita and the show not being nominated in Zee Rishtey and see they gave Himmanshoo an award which he truly deserved….don't know if true but I think we had an impact there!
Anyway enough of my spiel but bottom line is to keep sending positive feedback for this show we love so much and don't give up on it because of the separation track!! In my opinion the show has a lot of tracks that can be shown in the future.
