A lifetime of learning and understanding

Today Guddu asks God if he wants to spend a lifetime just understanding Runjhun. I couldn't help but smile at his question. He is truly conflicted and Amma's words have sobered his anger, but like he told Amma he feels cheated. Today he voiced out all his conflicts, and in some way it was telling that Runjhun's passive nature has bothered him from before. I think all that torture he meted out on her was to try and push her limits. He kept on pushing because she refused to react. Today he voices it out that no matter how much he pushed Runjhun didn't so much as let out a sigh.

I think he noticed it after their marriage too. I think Runjhun's personality confuses him. How can someone sit so silently and give till she can no more but never complain. He tells Amma that Runjhun allows herself to be tortured. He can't understand why when she can be so stubborn and strong willed, she can also at the same time close herself from reacting to things around her. It's almost like sometimes Guddu tries to push her buttons so she will push back, and so far it hasn't worked.

They still waters run deep and Runjhun is a very still water where as Guddu is the storm that pushes and rages trying to create a tidal wave in the water, but so far no luck. Runjhun has pushed herself so far from reaction that he will really have to reach deep within to get her out, and for that it might take him a while. If you truly think about it, Runjhun in some ways doesn't know how to receive affection just like in some ways Guddu doesn't know how to. They both transfer their feelings as something else.

I know the way Runjhun brings Amma in her thoughts, and worries what Amma will think, what Amma will say is bothersome to see for many, but Runjhun has only known this way to show affection. Guddu once said that Runjhun is the reflection of her Amma, and in some sense Runjhun sees herself as Amma's reflection, and can be only happy when Amma is. Amma has slowly pushed Runjhun away, but for Runjhun she represents comfort and her safety zone.

Runjhun has to become stronger and I don't mean develop a backbone strong, she needs to pull out of the shell she's created, and hopefully learn to react to the wrong that is committed against her. Hopefully Guddu will be her support system to get her there. She's already started reacting, and speaking up more, but still its more because of others, and not for herself, but she'll eventually get there.

I think in the next few episodes we're going to see Guddu standing by her, being her shield till she learns to bear the weight on her own. I think till Runjhun isn't strong she can't handle the revelation of her own fortune. I think Guddu and Runjhun will slowly start understanding each other more. Guddu might think that he's the only one who doesn't understand Runjhun, but he is as misunderstood. Runjhun doesn't completely understand Guddu either. She doesn't understand her own affections for Guddu. The way she cares and worries for him. The way she can sense his presence (twice now) when they're not together. She's become attuned to him, even though she's always had a sense of Guddu (their second touch really where they both seek blessing and ring the bell and the third touch when he places his hand under hers at the wedding).

For some reason they've always been tied together without realizing why, be it curiosity, be it revenge, be it anger. Their paths are tied to each other. Guddu asks if Runjhun is fortunate why is she married to him. Neither realize what a blessing they've been granted in each other. They are each others strength, each others salvation and in many ways kindred spirits even in their differences because all they both really require to be happy is simple love.

Someday both will realize that and every nuance of the story has been to focus on that, to eventually but slowly lead to these two coming together, learning about each other, and truly understanding each other, maybe it will take them both a lifetime, but isn't that what marriage is about. Spending time understanding each other, talking to each other, working as a joint unit, while still being able to retain their individuality. They have a long ways to go, but they also have quite a lifetime left to understand each other...little by little...

I love all your posts Wafa. Very well articulated. I feel I fail at such places. Avery good analysis. The ways of destiny working is very different from what we know. I have experinced it in my life and That is why I have full faith in Guddu and Runjhun that they will find out and understand it one day it comes as a surprise.

At one place Guddu said that he will not let Runjhun mary in the coming seven lives. I got the feeling that he is following her from previous lives. Only an Indian can have such toughts.🤪

You know Wafah everytime i saw an argument between them i thought the same thing - he is pushing her to get a reaction out of her.
He will never understand her passive nature because he didnt grow up that way.I mentioned it before that Runjhun has this passive nature because she feels obligated towards her Amma and her Mama and mamis because she really dont have anyone else. Her mom is not alive and i dont think i ever heard mention about her dad and she doesnt have any brothers and sisters.
I too believe that Runjhun will eventually begin to stand up for herself. In some recent episodes i have noticed that when the aunts order her around she make 'funny faces' and before her expression used to be the same sad droppy face. So i believe that is the first step.
With regards to Guddu and her feeling of love- i dont think runjhun has ever been in love not even with abhigyan. Abhigyan was just a saviour to her and her honour and she was grateful. So even if she is feeling any sort of love for Guddu she wont understand herself. It will take a while.
And i think that will be the next storyline that the creatives should expand on and they shouldnt rush it. Guddu has already realised there is a spark for her in him but he doesnt understand women so that is why he reacts that way. The creatives should focus on runjhun's feeling now and show us when she goes through her conflicting emotions.
I must say that i admire and value your every post Wafah - you really know how to express yourself.

Wow i am rambling. i will stop here.

Wafah, I could not have said it better... great post. I have understood Runjhun and Guddu's characterizations, but I would never have expressed them as well.
Overtly, Runjhun and Guddu appear as poles apart but if you peak inside the minds of such people they are very much alike. We are all familiar with the saying that opposites attract. There is much truth in that. In a marriage, each provides for the other what is lacking in them and together they stand as one strong entity. It is not easy and it takes a while to reach a point of underatanding in real life.
If these were real life people (God forbid! 😕), there is a lifetime process of adjustment, readjustment and fine-tuning to reach marital accord. Each new circumstance, e.g. kids, illnesses, in-laws, requires rebooting, so to say. How much is each party willing to compromise and move towards each other to get closer in mind and spirit? If there is a good foundation, all this can be achieved well.

Just one more thing to add...
Love is defined as different things by different people, depending on their perspectives.
It is not always passion and kisses. It is in little things people do for each other, not to be confused with duties and responsibilities.
Yesterday, Runjhun mentioned food to Amma as Guddu drove away. In her own way she cares enough to think of such things at the wrong moments. But what is she really saying? Would you call that love? I would say so. I think Guddu almost realizes it too when he revisits the fact in the temple that Runjhun took care of him when he had both his arms and legs broken. What would motivate her to do so in spite of his nastiness?
It is all about evaluating actions and motives of the other person and the answer stares you in the face. The CVs brought that out yesterday beautifully with Guddu's monologue in the temple.
There are just so many nuances that you have to go over each scene to catch every little bit shown.
Haila, kids, did you get what I am saying today?
Gardes, enough ramblings... get back to work! 😕
