Drunk auto driver

Verma, a resident of Seven Bungalows, and Sabharwal, who lives in Lokhandwala, were going for work to Bandra at around 3.30 pm, when a speeding auto brushed past their Matiz, scratching the car. Verma, who was driving, overtook the rickshaw and stopped it opposite HDFC Bank on Juhu-Versova Link Road.

Recalling the incident, Verma says, Immediately after getting out of the vehicle, the auto driver began to abuse us. The actors say the driver was drunk, and seeing the argument, some people at a nearby tea stall pushed them away and let the auto driver escape.

Careers at stake

Says Verma, They hit us and helped the auto driver escape. We didnt fight as there were 10 of them and most were drunk, including the auto driver and his friend, who was travelling with him. So we went to the police station and registered a complaint at the D N Nagar police station. Adds Sabarwal, Our faces are our assets, and if any of them had hit me on the face, my career would have been ruined.

Nabbed one of them

He adds, When we were coming back that evening, at around 8 pm, we saw one of the people who had pushed us, standing at a paan shop at Seven Bungalows. We tried to catch him, but he escaped on a motorbike. We informed the police and chased him till S V Road. Finally, with the help of a constable, we caught him near Andheri station.

Says PSI G Chimate, of D N Nagar police station, We have registered a complaint against the auto-rickshaw driver. We have the number of his vehicle and will get the details of the owner from the RTO. Nitin Borade (21), who hit the actors, has been caught and charged a fine of Rs 1,200 for assaulting them. He was later released after a warning.

Says Verma, We are thankful the police have nabbed one of them, and hope they will catch the rickshaw driver soon
