Hey forumwasis,
I have been a silent reader on this forum. Though I am not the regular follower of this show as I find it very depressing & negative, and I can actually help myself with some positivity from other sources that are real.
Disclaimer: This is a general post made by taking multiple instances from the show. I know the show is reel & for entertainment purpose only but lot of things are too real to be neglected (leave apart the murder portions of the show). And thus, no hurts intended. Please don't read if looking for some fan-biased thoughts. Long post but no bashing. Views are however appreciated.
I had written some posts in this forum when the show began in favour of Maya, about how & why is her personality like that because of the troubled childhood & father relations she had. I actually could fit myself in her shoes at that time because something clicked common in both of us at the beginning from behavioral aspects.
But as the show progressed, seeing her various avtaars & decisions, I came to conclusion that she is indeed a psychopath. No matter how bad your childhood had been or how depressed your life had been, you don't go on killing your own mother for anything in the world, especially not because her death will bring you sympathy from your husband whom you claim to love. Insecurity with your own child is madness. And for me that was the final nail in the coffin.
Reel is not real but reel does gets us affected in certain manners. It affects the way we look at things sometimes.
Beyhadh has showed many things- obsessive love, friendship & how can it be misused against two friends, etc, etc, etc.
It actually shows the shades of womanhood & what a woman is capable of doing to a man. While we have seen many stories on Indian TV regarding what a righteous woman can do to man, turning him to actually being a human being. It is probably the first time we have seen, what a toxic & negative woman can do to a man with such intensity & strength.
Arjun was a normal man until Maya happened to him. His life turned into a damsel & a mess as he dived into depth of his relation with Maya. He had already been supportive of Maya in S1, but as he began to see her true self, that is when reality hit him hard & even then he tried his best to have a normal relation with her. His support for Maya during rape fiasco, etc. is the proof of it.
Friendships on Indian TV are mostly used to show the love triangle & misunderstanding between the leads. And as true it is in reality that a friendship going overboard can actually ruin some really important relationships. But the bigger question is, "Can anyone here define the limit of friendship in different phases of life?"
Since we have begun to live in a world where friends turn out to be more understanding & helpful than our own family members at times. We expect a hell lot from this relation of friendship. We expect them to be by our side when in problem.
From the very moment Maya got attracted with Arjun after he saved her from elevator, she had problem with the duo friendship & everything about it. Problem is Maya wanted Arjun as his property that can be controlled like a robot/machine in the ways she wanted. But alas, Arjun is a human being & that too the impulsive one. He is very sensitive towards relations & the people he is supposed to love. He couldn't accept Vandana as his mom for so many years because he considered her a home-wrecker but maintained a loving relationship with Ayan.
Maya is indeed a psychopath. I don't know if anyone remeber the movie Ek Villain starring Shraddha, Siddarth & Ritesh. Ritesh used to kill woman who used to talk to him badly & rudely, only because his wife used to treat him the same & he couldn't kill her because of his love for her. But that anger of being talked rudely used to make him kill other such woman to whom he owed nothing. This used to give him peace to go back to his wife in the evening & be treated badly & bear with her again. He was a criminal psychopath. Nothing could justify that.
Every crime has a hidden psychology but we can't justify that to be the reason to intend or commit crime at any cost. NO criminal will be bound to be punished in that manner & if we see every little thing as crime, then everyone will be deemed to be punished be it in the form of Karma bites back & Karma is a bitch.
Maya might have been a victim in her childhood (if it was so because from what I have seen I doubt that). But that does not justify her being a murderer. She killed a pandit just because he said Maya & Arjun can't be together. (How justified is that. He was a stranger for God's sake)
The, killing her abusive, blackmailer father. Check.
But then, attempt to kill her mother. Hell.
She could be infidel after marriage with Samay, but Arjun can't turn to his friend when needed for help.
And the rape case. That kind of showed some reality here. No check
The Nari morcha will never come to rescue for an actual victimised woman in real life but they always come when some powerful woman is trying to teach her in-laws a lesson for asking her to do even the smallest task (as shown in shows). (And a real incident like this has happened in my family too & I have seen the damage it has done even today.)
Police will never thoroughly investigate a matter where a wife is wrongfully killed in reality but to punish & make an innocent suffer, Always at your altar.
NO raped girl in reality will go far in losing out her clothes in the court in front of an audience just to show her scars, but a false victim might (as Maya did). (The trauma in itself is big enough to handle & no one loves to make mockery of their distress in such cases. Being under absolute control of someone with your body for sometime while you loath every moment of it & other having enjoyed the same, gives some serious chills down your spine, even at the the slightest real thought. The whole matter of Consent is for this only).
There are so many things happening in reality & the harsh truth is that at the end, it is the victim who is at the suffering end (Be it a man or a woman) & we as society have acceptance to both of it on various grounds as we can do nothing about it in either of the case.
I mean isn't this show regressive too like other shown on the television. I agree women worldwide had been at suffering end for ages & we deserve equality for being a human first & have our own choices. But is it justified that in this whole process, we lose out the core essence of being a woman that is to be considerate, compassionate & nurturer. I may sound old-fashioned, regressive & conservative with this statement, but I don't see where the world is going in this manner. We ought to have balance. The way things are changing now a days, are losing the balance. Just because some did something in the past to the other, doesn't mean we repeat the history, only with role reversal this time.
I was kind of surprised by sympathies for Maya on several basis. I am actually wondering how come no police showed till date & do some thorough investigation for so many murders & then Maya dies and all hell break lose. No doubt why we think police & judiciary to be this shallow in reality.
