Yes! Definitely I would have still understood Maya's character more.
Although I don't defend Maya in everything she does but there always a strong reason behind Maya's every action or say reaction.

Because had people been in their limits and given Maya a chance then I am sure Maya would have definitely changed for better.
As VM's Panditji had predicted about ArYa's future. He had said Love has immense power and that if Love is directed to a positive direction with acceptance than that very same Love gives Wings. And ArYa are made for each other.

But VM only concentrated on the negative aspect instead of understanding Panditji's prediction. Its funny her belief system is so partial. And that is simply because VM blindly hates Maya and blindly loves Saanjh.

However coming back to your question one thing I am not sure about is whether Aneri would have been able to pull off Maya's character as brilliantly as Jennifer does.

Maya's character seems like a tailor made role for Jennifer.

I don't think people defend Maya for the sole reason that it is played by Jennifer. From what I have got to know about their POV is the fact that Maya has suffered a lot in her childhood and that she has been wronged her whole life by others. This is making them defend her in spite of all her crimes.
Though I respect their POV, I just cannot bring myself to accept her flaws especially after what she did to Ayan.

P.S. Aneri can never pull off Maya's character with the finesse with which Jennifer does. So if Aneri was playing the role of Maya in a parallel universe, then I agree that Maya wouldn't have as many supporters as she has now

The answer to your question is simple but consists of several clauses/conditions:

Had Aneri played Maya as well as she is portrayed currently, then I believe nothing would be different. But, if Maya's character (played by Aneri) was shown to be shallow, not captivating and/or intriguing enough, and had Saanjh (played by Jennifer) taken over Maya's character, then perhaps, the viewers' (I mainly speak for myself here) perspective would have been different.

I do not think people like Maya only because the character is played by Jennifer, but because of how well Jennifer portrays the character. It's not only the actress people appreciate but the brilliant execution. I personally think both Jennifer and Aneri fit their respective characters quite well and it would be a nightmare if they were to be swapped, but I found this thread bring up some interesting thoughts.

I fell in love with the character Maya and that is when I started to love Jennifer
It Aneri was playing Maya I would still have sympathy for Maya
Coming to saanjh, if Jennifer was playing saanjh I still would not like the character saanjh and would be pissed at Jennifer for even choosing the role of saanjh because Jennifer is a senior actor she has been in the industry for years, would prefer her to do something different.
I never watched the show for Jen, Aneri or kushal. Was never their fan but as show moved I really started to love jen for her acting skills as portraying Maya.
But yeah that's my answer 😃

Agree with you completely. VM's pundit JI said that Arjun & Maya are perfect for each other & all 36 gunns match. He had said all the positive points except for Maya's beyhadh love which can make a married life a heaven or hell. If it is directed in a right direction with acceptance, it takes you to great heights but Vandana had only looked at the negative side of it.

Maya had confessed to Jhanvi that she wants to show her positive side to all but no one gives her a chance. Even Arjun said the same to Vandana. Having said that, I don't justify Maya's wrong actions as I personally don't want her to make her hands dirty for those people who don't understand her worth.

The reason why I say that Vandana should have given a chance to Maya is because she had respected Vandana & she does anything for those people who are good to her.

If people around her had been within their limits, Maya would have become a better person.

Jennifer can easily play Saanjh's role but I can't imagine Aneri playing Maya's role.

i think i might have loved Saanhj if Jen played her. the problem is i feel something is off with Aneri's portrayal of saanhj.

she acts well and in certain parts she is beyond amazing bt as a whole her character portrayal is boring and annoying. Jen could have easily played saanhj and made her likeable. also if u get that girl jhanvi from that zeetv woh apne sa show and made her play saanhj gosh i would love her. quite frankly this show has miscast kushal and aneri as saanjh and arjun. the producer should have got the actors playing adi and jhanvi to play arjun and saanhj.

as for aneri playing Maya. no offence to the actress or her fans bt she looks like a boy and looks very simple. forget the acting part one needed an actress who oozes sex appeal and is very beautiful. and she is not that

Short Answer is No. People don't like Maya coz she is played by Jennifer. People like Maya coz she is played so brilliantly by Jennifer. The execution of the character is such, and the way she brings life to even the smallest nuances of the character is what does it. Maya looks ruthless and vulnerable at the same time. Controlling and desperately insecure at the same time. You see the "Cause and effect" of her actions as they play out.

The writing is good, not great. But Jennifer is great. She has filled the gaps of the writing with her own execution. She shows Maya's pagalpan so well, as well as showing Maya's emotional side and vulnerability. Without that, Maya would not be likable at all.

In fact I do not excuse her one bit. I think most of the issues stem from Maya's abusive past and her deep rooted insecurities. Unlike "Normal" people, she just ruins anyone that comes in the path of her happiness or her agenda to be with the one she loves. She does not have that "Line" or "Haad" that we normal people have that tell us "This is wrong, and I can't do it". Case in point, what she did to Ayaan. There is no "I cant do this" in her mind. Ayaan was a problem and she dealt with him. In HER mind, Ayaan asked for it by coming to her house and demanding that she give Arjun to him. That is HER way of thinking. She is sick. But Jennifer manages to inject so much oomph to the character we can't help but be fascinated while being repelled at the same time.

Aneri could not have played Maya at this point of her career. She plays Saanjh well. But sometimes seems too preachy. Give her 5 more years she will be able to pull of someone like this. But a certain maturity in looks and also experience is needed to play an anti-social borderline psychopathic character like Maya, and get people to like her. Not an easy task, and not a job for a novice!

Honestly, No! 😆

the only reason i love maya is because i love jennifer
and the only reason i hate sanjh is because i kind of dont like aneri that much (not hate, but cant even like)

if jennifer had played sanjh, i would have fallen in love with sanjh who knows? 😆
and had aneri played maya, maybe i would have hated her...

but being a jennifer fan and maya fan...i still say maya's actions are not justified by any kind of past she had...she is negative i accept that

but does that stop me from loving her? 😉😆 no sir! but only bcz of jenny!!!
