What I usually notice is that Star, Colors and Zee intervene in the shows storyline for TRP and if the ratings still don’t improve, they cancel the show. I don’t think Sony meddles with their shows since the viewership is low but if the TRP is less than 0.5, they axe the show off within 3 months.

I know all are ruthless after all they are running businesses and want to make the most profit. Maybe I see sony as the most brutal because they have out of nowhere dropped several show which were my favs.and mostly the reason is behind the scene politics. And there is this mentality that sony doesn't care much abt trps while all viewers know starplus, zee and colors will kick out shows very easily if they can't get good trps.

This is a popular misconception that Indian tv fandoms have. Sony doesn’t care about trps. Of course they care💀. Its a business not a charity. They have abruptly cancelled a number of shows which I have listed in a previous post. There might be more I’m not sure but those are the ones I know of.

Sony tv’s reach is low compared to Starplus/colors/Zee that’s why majority of the content in their shows is watchable. But they still need TRP to make money. A rating between 0.6-0.9 would be adequate for a Sony show to survive for a year. However if another show on the channel is getting 0.3-0.4, they would cancel the show sometimes without a proper ending.

It is possible. As an example look at SBRK (Silsila Badlate Rishton Ka). The show was not doing well in terms of TRP, but had a good online TRP, so it was shifted online and then a second season was also aired for it.

I think it depends on the channel and the producers of the show though. SBRK was the first time Colors had done a show wholely online and it did do well, but there was a lot of backlash for it originally. Over time though, people settled down and started watching it online.

If you're asking about Beyhadh 2 specifically though, I doubt it. Sony had a chance to go online with several of their shows like CID, YUDKBH, EDKV, etc., but they chose to just end the shows due to low TRPs. So I doubt if they would take Beyhadh 2 online.

That’s really bad.

How come the shows on Sabtv are doing well? As in how are they able to last for years?

Because Sab TV isn't really in the race to be at the top. Sab TV is more about entertaining people and they've stayed true to their tagline "maza sab ke saath aata hai" or something like that for years. Sab TV only pulls shows off air when the TRP starts falling and stays down. For them that's an indication that people no longer enjoy the show and it no longer has freshness. And they don't just pull it off air with the first drop. From what I've seen, it seems like they wait at least a few months before they pull it off air. I think the only times they've pulled shows off air within a few months is when it has no buzz and very low TRP from the get-go.

Honestly all channels should learn that from Sab TV. Give the show a chance, unless it has no buzz and low TRPs to begin with. Don't just pull a show off air or get the CVs to change the show because of a few weeks of low TRPs.

Sab tv isn’t a GEC. it’s a sister channel of Sony. In India, the four main GECs are Starplus, Colors, Zee tv and Sony.
