Just like Season 1, I m sure season 2 also will do great. Coz the storyline is actually doing really well. Many people are loving the track. Anyways online trps are 2nd place for 2 weeks, than 3rd, 5th and 6th atm. I m sure next week online trps will see a rise probably coz of the Mayra element. Coming to the extension, Kangan said they are planning to extend the show for an year. If this decesion has been made despite the ratings I am sure it is giving some good online revenue to the channel. Again I am just guessing.
BARC Ratings we all know the first week it was 0.9 (0.7) and then dropped to 0.5 in the second week and stayed stable. It's a known fact that Sony fictional shows unfortunately don't go above 1.2. Even YUDKBH was always been below 1.0 most of the times. A good 0.8-0.9 will be good for a high budget show like Beyhadh 2. I am really not sure why does Sony's shows always end up getting such low numbers especially fictional. There's a Stark difference in their fictional and reality shows. Like how?
@ Bold: Ah so then I must have misunderstood whichever interview I heard or read. They probably said the same thing - potential to be extended to a year. It's probably still 6 months. It would be too early to extend it yet.
@ Red: Based on all the shows I've watched, I have a few theories/reasons.
(1) Their treatment of shows. In the past they have not treated their shows well. In fact, they've pulled a couple of their shows off-air mid-story. Tujhko Hai Salaam Zindagi and 2025 Jaane Aage Hoga Kya are two shows that immediately come to mind only because I used to watch both shows and both just suddenly disappeared.
(2) Their demand for content. In the past, Sony used to force producers/directors/CVs to change their story midway to get more TRPs. In fact, a few times (based on rumours that I read) people would be replaced by Sony if they pushed back.
(3) Sony doesn't really offer much of a good deal to get to viewers. Their major sister channels are Sab TV, Sony Pal, and Sony Max. Sony Pal literally is the only channel to show repeats and that's all they show so most people don't even bother to get that channel or if they have it, they don't watch it. And you can't really show Beyhadh 2 on Sab TV. Sony Max is a movie channel. Thus, Sony itself is the only channel that is streamed to viewers and that repeats can be shown on.
(4) Sony's shitty treatment of reality shows. The only show Sony treats really well is KBC. Indian Idol, from what I've heard, has a multi-year deal with Sony. BB left Sony the moment their deal was up. Comedy Circus hasn't returned in years. Dance shows are only now making a comeback.
(5) Sony plays with its schedule. When CID and CP both used to air, and Sony had a better lineup of reality shows, they loved playing with the schedule. Cancelling episodes, changing the schedule last minute, airing episodes later than the timed slot because they wanted to show a repeat. They did it all. You never could know when the show was actually going to air because of all the changing they did last minute.
Based on the above, my theory is that producers and directors have gotten frustrated of Sony and try to steer clear of it. They only come to it if they think other channels will short change them. Imagine YUDKBH on Star Plus. By now Naina would probably have been married 4 times, had 2 kids with each marriage, and saved Sameer from death in every conceivable way possible. Or imagine Beyhadh 2 on Colors. I bet you Maya would be a naagin with bad VFX and a stupid storyline. These shows work because Sony at least gives them the space to be true to their story.
