sometimes you need to watch another serial to appreciate how different and fun bepannah is.
so here is my ode to this show.
zoya -- she got herself into this mess because she was afraid of her emotions and what happened in the past. however, when she realized her heart, she didn't blame fate or circumstance or her family for the arshad shaadi mess. nope, she took responsibility, apologized and also owned that she loved aditya. no noble idiocy, no sacrifice of herself but a choice to live her life because she also deserve love and happiness..
aditya -- that whole psycho stalker bit drove me nuts but still give him points for speaking his mind, for being honest with his feelings even when others thought he was nuts. no hiding behind stares and silences, no crying like a helpless fool. aditya in the end of the day is all action and when it comes to protecting his love and his woman, he is like a bear. no emotional blackmail is going to work with him.
waseem -- yea, he can be super stubborn but I cracked up when he said that he needs to eat his BP medicine and have a meal. đ no meltdowns over a daughter that disappointed him. even if he is mad and hurt, he is going to take care of himself and live. no running away from humiliation or pain but facing life head on even with disappointments.
roshana - the quiet wife but when it comes to situations, she defends her kids and is not afraid to speak her mind. she may not be effective but she is a gentle creature who is firm when she tries to talk to waseem. she is not afraid of him or his tauntrums. and there was no word against her kids because she knew zoya's heart could not take more pain. so despite the humiliation, all she had were soothing words. after zoya leaves, she faces her worries.
noor -- yea, she can be shrilly and bit immature but she acts exactly her age. and just as zoya, there is no running from her emotions or her situations. she speaks her mind even when she might get drowned by other noises and she stands up for herself.
arjun -- the sane child in the family who is always comforting and asking sensible questions. he expresses disappointment with aditya and he confronts his older brother. he is also not some self-sacrificing saint and shows his temper, anger and disappointment with noor.
papa hooda -- he may not speak much but when he does, he is always rational. no emotional dramas, no meltdowns. trying to listen to both his boys and his wife but gives it back rationally.
anjana -- yea she may be a psycho but this is no rona dhona character. she has a painful past but she does not try to pretend that she wasn't hurt or that she is some saint. she does not claim to have a heart attack to try and push her kids into anything. at the end of the day, she may hate that her kids have their own individual personalities but she knows and accepts that they make their own calls. she may hate zoya but there is going to be no fake behaviour like "welcome bahu" -- instead, it will be open war. so no hiding, no mind games. bring it on! this is bound to be entertaining as she has some of the best one line zingers. đ
so thanks to the CVs for writing characters with spine, who don't resort to tears to get their way, who take ownership of their actions good or bad and who face life and its disappointments head on. they may be flawed but theses characters don't hide behind silences and stares, are open with their emotions and communicate when they are angry, disappointed and hurt.
