Here's Part 6! 😊
*Zain's POV*
I hadn't been sleeping well. After lots of tossing and turning last night, somehow I fell asleep. Without Aaliya cuddling me,I found it hard to let peace overcome me.
Aaliya. I would sometimes wake up in the middle of the night and expect to see submerged by the comforter and several duvets that were on top of our bed. But then reality would kick in and I would realise that she wasn't here.
I was awakened from my slumber by a constant shaking and a persistent calling of my name.
"Zain! Zain!" came the voice.
Groggily, I rubbed my eyes. I looked up to see Mom.
"Zain, Rehaan's dropped something off for you," she informed as she held up an envelope.
"Oh, did he?" I asked, confused.
"Yeah, he said something about showing it to us all?" she inquired.
That's when I realised. Today was the day that Rehaan wanted me to expose Bhabi. At first, I wanted to do it as soon as possible, but then I realised that Bhabi could have come up with so many excuses. So if we planned it well then it would throw her off guard and she would have nothing to say for herself.
"Yes Mom. Rehaan wanted me to show you some footage. It's from the Eid party at the office," I lied.
"But Zain, what's the need for us to watch it?" she asked, confused
"The staff at work wanted to thank us," I convinced.
"Okay then, come downstairs. We'll watch it on the big T.V," she encouraged enthusiastically.
I grabbed the envelope and ran down the stairs, not bothering to change out of my night clothes. I saw everyone looking at me strangely. What they didn't know was that with my one revelation their worlds will change.
I carefully took the CD out of the envelope and put it into the DVD player and used the remote to press play. I started to look around the room, I couldn't look at their faces.
I could see Mom's face turn from excited and expectant to shocked and angry.
"NAFISA?!" Fahad Bhai shouted.
"Fahad, listen. I .." she tried to explain but Fahad Bhai cut her off.
"I knew Aaliya could never do this. She begged and pleaded with me to believe her but what did I do? I'm her older brother, I was supposed to protect her! And yet I never knew that the real culprit was right in front of me. My own wife," he sneered bitterly.
"Fahad, let me explain," Bhabi pleaded.
"Explain what?! How are you going to justify this Nafisa? You killed my dad. And I, for one, can never forgive you for that," Fahad Bhai shrieked.
Fahad Bhai walked away in disgust.
"How dare you Nafisa?" Mom shouted.
"Mom, listen. I just wanted to teach you a lesson, I wanted you to feel pain. Just like the pain I felt when you brought Shazia into this house, as Fahad's wife," Bhabi cried.
"This was a way to get back at me? At the cost of my husband?" Mom asked.
"And Aaliya. You always hated her, so what is it to you if she left? You were happy weren't you, when Zain gave her the first talaaq?" Bhabi asked spitefully.
That caused my heart to constrict painfully. I was reminded of how unfairly I treated her, how we all treated her. Mom put it in my head that Aaliya wasn't right for me, that I should leave her. That's the only reason I promised to because Mom wanted me to. But what Mom didn't know was that I couldn't live without my wife. I needed to tell her the truth. And more importantly, I had to get Aaliya back from Rehaan's.
"Shut up Nafisa!" Mom bellowed.
"Truth hurts doesn't it Mrs.Abdullah? You wanted to separate your son from his wife so badly that you used your husband's death to your advantage. You're a poor excuse for a mother," Bhabi decalared.
That's when I heard footsteps coming towards Bhabi, from behind.
"How dare you?" the voice whispered.
*SLAP*
"What gives you the right to accuse my Maami like that? And what gives you the right to take my Mamu away from me?" Aaliya cried.
"Aaliya, listen ..." Bhabi tried to say.
"No you're going to listen to me. I hate you for what you've done. I can't fathom what a disgusting, cold-heated woman you are. I was accused, mocked and downright insulted because of you. My husband, my brother, no-one believed me," Aaliya wept.
*Aaliya's POV*
When I walked into Barkat Villa I could hear nothing but shouting. Something had definitely happened, why else would Rehaan have told me to come here?
I saw Fahad Bhai walking away from Bhabi looking disappointed. He knew.
I could hear Maami question Bhabi but she did nothing but insult her. I couldn't take anymore of it. She couldn't speak to Maami like that. Though Maami has done nothing but insult me since me and Zain got married, I still had respect for her. She was my mother-in-law after all.
I don't know where I found the courage to slap Bhabi but I just couldn't endure it any longer. She wasn't even ashamed of what she had done, she seemed quite the opposite. Someone had to put her in her place.
"What gives you the right to accuse my Maami like that? And what gives you the right to take my Mamu away from me?" I shouted.
"Aaliya, listen ..." Bhabi tried to say.
"No you're going to listen to me. I hate you for what you've done. I can't fathom what a disgusting, cold-heated woman you are. I was accused, mocked and downright insulted because of you. My husband, my brother, no-one believed me," I cried.
Soon I was weeping on the floor with Zain's arms wrapped around me. He was whispering words of comfort and assurance into my ear while stroking my hair lovingly.
"Mom, I have something to tell you," Zain announced "A couple of days ago, I found out the truth about Bhabi. And I revoked talaaq from Aaliya."
"Good, I'm glad we all found out the truth. Now we can do something about it," Maami said.
"But Mom, we have some news," Zain interrupted.
"What news Zain? We can't take anymore bad news for today," Maami said, colour draining from her face.
"No Mom, it's good news, great actually. Me and Aaliya ..." he tried to say while he took my hand.
"Well Zain, tell me. Why are you so shy?" she asked, confused.
"Maami, I'm ... I'm pregnant," I announced, a wide smile adorning my face.
"What?! Oh my. Allah (SWT) Thank you. And thank you Aaliya, for restoring peace in our family once again. If only your Mamu was here," Maami said as she engulfed me in a warm hug.
"And you, you can stay here until Fahad Bhai gets here. Then he can decide what he wants to do," Zain said pointing at Bhabi.
"Aaliya, have you had your appointments at the doctor's? Everything's okay right?" Maami asked full of concern.
"Mom, her appointment's tomorrow actually. So Fahad Bhai will have to keep things running at the office because I'm going with her," Zain explained to Maami.
"This is a celebration. So we need Mithai!" Maami cried enthusiastically.
With that she walked into the kitchen.
I turned around to look at the photo that was hung above the stairs. I stood there and closed my eyes thanking him. If only he was there. I hadn't noticed that tears were streaming down my eyes until Zain was wiping them away.
"Hey, no more tears okay? Dad would have wanted us to be happy, enjoying this moment," Zain assured me.
"Zain, we owe all this happiness to him. If it wasn't for him then ..." I was cut off when Zain started speaking again.
"Malika-E-Zain, Dad wouldn't want us to be constantly living with regret or sadness. He would want us to live our lives, in harmony," he said, smiling.
"Okay," I said.
"So, shall we go upstairs?" Zain asked nonchalantly.
"Why?" I asked, confused.
"I need to show you just how much I missed you," he said mischievously, with a smirk on his face.
He swept me off my feet and into his loving arms. I looked into his beautiful eyes and kissed his soft, smooth lips. I exhaled a long breath as I indulged in peace and serenity.
