Preetika Rao is bubbly, charming, gorgeous and hard working. She is currently seen in Colors TV prime slot show "Beintehaa". For our readers we bring her exclusive interview. Read on to know a bit more about her.
Your debut movie was your Tamil film and now you are doing a TV show. What is the difference you find in working in different platforms?
Tamil film was regional and it is limited to regional audience. In television prime time 9.00PM slot on a popular channel like colors gives a lot more exposure in India and also all over the world and in countries like Afganistan, France, US, UK, Pakistan and Iran. People are sending messages to me from all those countries. The difference is popularity and work. There is lot of work on television. We work around 16-18 hours and sometimes 24 hours.
Does your sister Amrita Rao guide you when your career was taking shape?
Actually no body from my family told that what I should be doing as a career. They left it to my choice. I myself started modeling. After modeling I got into journalism then I got tamil movie offers which I didn't take initially because I was not very keen of being an actress at that time. Later I inclined towards acting. When I realized that I am comfortable with acting ,i decided to give it a try.Later I got this offer Beintehaa and I accepted it.
You write Bollywood columns with south side magazines and articles to various newspapers.Share your experience of writing.
When I was a Journalist I interviewed Shammi Kapoor ji and Devanand Ji. I was very lucky that I came across very interesting people. From the south, I interviewed all the young actors. I had fun because I was a gossip journalist. The newspaper which I wrote had an entertainment gossip column called mirror. It was very demanding. You need to interact with people for breaking news stories every time from film world. Since I belong to the film world it was easier for me to get information and I had fun.
How much Preetika Rao is different from Aliya?
I put lot of my sense into Aliya and somewhere Aliya is very similar to me.The only difference is she has little bit of an attitude in her ,like she give lot of attitude to Zain. I am very bubbly as a person. She is equally like me but just basic pattern of me and Alia is little different. The entire situation is that Aliya is getting into and her Bhopali background is very different from mine but basic moral is similar.
Aliya is a muslim character but you are Hindu from religion so how you managed to play this character?
I think its understanding that I am playing another culture and adapting myself to be a part of that culture. I do it with lot of integrity and am really enjoying playing muslim girl. Muslim girls from all over the world write to me that I am their role model. That is huge compliment for me. Coincidentally I have seen Pakistani serials just before I signed Beintehaa. I am in love and passionate with their culture, language and everything. When I got the opportunity to play Aliya I was very excited because our Indian television dramas are more dominated by rajastani, gujarati, punjabi and maharashtrian backdrops and not muslim backdrops. So I was very excited about playing this character.
You have diploma in script writing in New York Academy. If you want to write the character of Zain and Aliya how different it will be from present character?
It's very difficult for me to answer that because they are very strong characters and they were complete in themselves. I don't want to write Alia and Zain differently.
Are you open for Bollywood projects?
I believe if something is bound to happen it will happen. These are big mile stones in life and I believe all are destined. We can't plan and sort. We cannot say I would love to work with particular actor, director or character. It has to come on your way. If it's destined for you it will come. So if Bollywood is destined for me it will happen whether I want it or don't want it.(laughs)
From Bollywood if you get a chance to go on date with any one of them, who will he be?
Among current slot I choose Ali Zafar.
Tell us something about your child hood and family.
I have very ultra -modern but very strict parents. My mom in particular was very strict with me about completion of my studies and graduation. My dad was very cool with my studies. My dad has an ad agency. From my child hood I know about advertising and marketing. I have memories of going with my dad to race course at club Mahalakshmi race course. I had very nice child hood .I think I enjoyed hanging around with my dad friends and home parties more than hanging out with my friends. My sister started working at early age so I used to wait for her to come home from long schedules like 20 days. When she came back it was all fun. We would go for drive and she tells me all about her shooting. Now I am busy and she is busy so we rarely get to see each other.
Message to fans who are deeply in love with Aliya.
Whether I know them personally or not I know they love me and appreciate my work and they are all there to support me. I look forward to message them in twitter and I will be in touch with them by using direct message. I hope Aliya become special to them.
