Oh I see. You're right. I think it's a little stereotypical on their part to show the cousin marriage and bigamy. As a young Muslim myself, I can say that most of us in this generation do not find such customs acceptable.
Hey, guys I'm sorrryyy, I take back my words lol. They ARE blood related actually because they are 1st cousins. Someone told me that the blood line is through the father which is not correct medically and scientifically. For a second, I forgot certain things from my biology course lol and looked at it from that view, but I was wrong.
Anyway, so coming to this issue. Yeah, but the chance of genetic overlap is only 12.5% and it is rare that medical issues occur. I have read that it happens only when marriages between cousins occur repeatedly over many generations. So like if Zain's parents and Alia's parents were also cousins then it would be an issue in the real world.
Regardless of the small chance, medicial issues DO arise as imli123 said. There are 3 Hadiths ( sayings of the prophet of Islam) that encourage marriage as far away from blood ties as is possible. It was also encouraged to make ties with new tribes ( families). So, it's not just now that people are recognizing it as a social taboo and cause of genetic disorders, it was discouraged even in old times although it was permissible by religious laws. And Yuppp!! Totally agree that there was no need to have stereotypical bigamy and cousin marriage which has been shown on other channels and in many Urdu language dramas across the border. As a young muslim girl, I'm also not a fan of marrying withing the extended family because apart from the 2 reasons you mentioned, I feel like it causes fights within family when the marriage doesn't work out. But, strangely,I don't mind it in a fictional story on TV, I mean I just wanna see a sensible, romantic story without an overdose of melodrama and as long as Zain and Alia are not bro-sis from same parents, I do not mind lol đ
