Jokes aside, I honestly think he didn't want to do it alone because he cannot pretend or lie to her at all.

If you notice he kept his back to her when the scene began and he didn't look at her even once until she pushed him to a point that he was forced to come infront of her, he actually paused for a good minute and couldn't even speak once he looked into her eyes.
