Hi guys…so here is chapter 3….sorry for the delay…I guessupdates will come faster now that we are all at home….plz buddy me for pms….thanksfor all the generous comments….they really inspire me to write

CHAPTER 3

Bondita watched as people poured into the college auditoriumwhere the stage was set for the graduation ceremony. There were very few women like her who were lucky enough to get education and have ambitions. She watched as their families came in. She caught sight of her Trilochan Kaka and Som Dada among them. She came down the stairs happily and ran to them excited. She took Kaka’s blessings and then greeted Somnath. She had received a letter from Anirudh congratulating her and informing her that he wouldn’t be able to make it due to an important case. He had also informed that Som and Kaka were coming to Delhi for her convocation. She was sad that the two people she loved the most and whose presence was important to her were not going to there with heron such a important day – her mom and Anirudh. One thing she and Anirudh had learned in the past few years was that only when people are ready to change can you change them. Her mother was the best example. Anirudh had fought for the rights of widows and as a result her mom now had a better life. She had an income of her own and she was allowed to grow her hair. But her mother still refused to appear in gatherings.She still considered herself a bad omen to some extent or atleast the circleshe moved in did. She was too scared to risk anything bad happening to Bondita because of her presence. Bondita knew her mother wouldn’t come but she had hoped he would come. She was disappointed that he wasn’t going to be here but she tried to make the best of it.

Trilochan looked at the young woman who stood before him smiling. It was difficult to believe it was the same 8 year old child who Anirudh had brought home years back. Time had changed his attitude towards her too. He had hated her the first time he saw her. She was a blot on their reputation, unsuitable for Anirudh and his family in every way. But with time he had realized how endearing the child could be. He remembered the day he had been sitting in his room thinking of his long lost love who had been taken away from him by her untimely death. He had never married again and on her death anniversary he had been in his room alone mourning her loss. He had told the family to stay away but she had come in. She had brought him dinner. He had shouted at her but she stayed put. And then with her tiny hands she wiped away his tears. That moment he had realized how innocent a child she was. his nephew was right. He had come to love the girl like a daughter. He was still upset with Anirudh and Bondita’s mission to change the society. It went against everything he stood for her and his principles but he had come around to accepting that he wouldn’t be able to change their mind. They would learn their lessons in time.

Bondita showed them their seats and then proceeded to where her classmates sat. The ceremony started and soon her name was called out. Her eyes brimmed with tears as her name was announced and she went up the stage.Tears flowed down her cheeks even as she accepted the degree and the gold medal.She held it in her hand reminiscing all the struggles behind it – his more than hers. She wanted to run straight into his arms. Her eyes looked around for his beaming face , applauding her. She felt a moment of rage. What could be more important than this? She returned to her seat fists clenched, convincing herself that something very important must have come up.

Trilochan and Somath greeted her happy smiles.

“I wish Dada was here. “ Som said congratulating her.

“Me too.” she said once agin imagining his smiling face.

As they proceeded for lunch she asked Som “So Dada, how are the wedding preps going? “

“How would it go without our bahu to oversee things ? We are waiting for you to come home and start the preparations. After all you are the only woman in the groom’s family. You have to be the one to get things ready for your devrani. “ Trilochan told her.

Bondita nodded with a smile.

“Som Dada, Barrister babu had written in his letter that we will stay in Delhi for this week and do some shopping. I don’t see what we canget here that we wont find in Tulsipur or Kolkata. “ Bondita said.

Somnath looked at his uncle. This was his brother’s excuse to delay her homecoming.

“Haan Boudi. I think it is unnecessary to carry things allthe way to Tulsipur by rail. I have got rail tickets for tomorrow morning. Itwas a stupid idea. We can go around a little for today. “ Som told her.

Bondita was happy. She was miffed when she learned she would have to wait longer to go home. She wanted to meet her mother – and him.

And she was going home – to him.
