Part Twenty Seven: Bliss
Divya was sitting in the middle of the bed with her knees close to her chest. Amar's cousin Reeya folded the pleats of her beautiful ornate saree neatly and placed her ghunghat in a way it almost covered her whole face.
She sat there with mixed feelings, mostly elated, excited, thrilled, but also a little scared and nervous. Where is he? Who leaves his wife waiting in their wedding night!
She looked around. The whole room was tastefully decorated with white lilies and pinkish purple orchids. She smiled to herself. Amar why are you so adorable? I can't believe you remembered! Ages ago, may be in 6th or 7th grade, I told you lilies are my favorites! You are too much! Why are you so thoughtful and caring? I just hope I can live up to you! She looked at the sky through the window. Thank you God! Thanks for bringing him back into my life. If you don't give me anything else ever again, I won't complain! I promise!
Sitting in that position made her uncomfortable. Her legs started to ache. It was warm and the ghunghat made her sweaty. She got up, took off her dupatta and stretched her legs and hands! She smelled the flowers, caressed the petals. She suddenly missed him! Missed his smile! She remembered a little while ago, during the ceremony when the panditji was reciting the verses from the Geeta, he winked and smiled meaningfully when everyone was looking at her! As if he tried to say, why bother with all these rituals, we are married already!
It was so embarrassing; I completely forgot what I had to say! I was trying so hard not to look at you and smile back! Your cousins started saying in chorus how I blushed into a tomato! Panditji probably never seen such a stupid bride in his life; who couldn't say her lines correctly even when they were repeated three times for her! Let me get my hands on you tonight, I will make you pay for turning me into a complete idiot in front of everyone! I saw your smug smiling face! How can you enjoy my awkward hapless situation!
Her stomach growled quite loudly at that moment. Ooops! I am so hungry! Why do people have to fast in their wedding days? These age old rituals should be changed! What if someone had diabetes? Uhh! If I don't eat something now, I will die!
She went near the table where Reeya left some sweets, fruits and some water! Two minutes later Amar entered the room and closed the door behind. Divya was quickly devouring the sweets and fruits as if she hadn't eaten for days! She smiled seeing him, swallowed the food she had in her mouth and exclaimed, "Finally! Where have you been! I was so bored!"
Amar just shook his head smiling, sat on the neatest sofa and stretched his hands open inviting her to come to him. She quickly wiped her hand with a tissue, grabbed something from her purse, came and sat on the armrest of the sofa.
He pulled her on his lap, and embraced her, "How is my gorgeous wife?"
She shook her head. "Not. Good. What took you so long? I missed you! She kissed his forehead and handed him an envelope. "This is your wedding gift." She smiled pressing both her lips together.
"Wow! Thank you!! When are we going to Ireland?" he surfed through the two airline tickets quickly and beamed at her.
"Soon" she smiled.
He seemed sad and lost for some seconds. "D, I don't have anything for you! No one told me about it. I should have thought about it. Sorryyy! I feel so bad!" he said guiltily.
"No problem my dear husband, get me something next time" she replied causally.
"Huh? Next time?" Amar asked mockingly. "What are you implying darling? Do I get to marry you again, like in Hindi soaps, so that you get your gift?" He laughed.
"Ufff..No, I didn't mean that. Stop smiling like that! You know what I meant. You don't need to give me anything ever!"
He completely ignored her response. "You know this remarriage thing is an awesome idea!" he smiled seeing Divya's frustrated frown! "Hear me out first! I used to watch some TV serials with mom when I was a kid to give her company. Couples in those used to dress up and remarry at least once a month! I think it would be fun! We should do it too. "
"No way! Each time I have to fast all day! I was so hungry before you came, ate 4 laddos in two minutes!" she smiled cutely.
Amar was quite serious. "But we have to do it at least one more time!"
"Why?" Divya was confused.
"So that we can have a picture perfect wedding night! In all the movies I saw, the wedding nights were pretty romantic! When the groom enters the room, the coy bride is always found sitting in the middle of the bed decorated with flowers, hiding her face in her long ghunghat! A sweet melodious song plays in the background. The groom slowly takes off the gunghat, holds her chin and recites some verses comparing her beauty with the moon and the stars! And look at our wedding night!"
"What's wrong with our wedding night?" Divya felt guilty because she took off her dupatta before he came.
"Well, I forgot a wedding gift for you! The strangest and funniest part is when I came in, I found my gorgeous wife standing and gulping down food with no ghunghat on, with no sign of shyness whatsoever! I couldn't use any of the verses I memorized! All my research went to waste! No, this won't do! I want the filmy kind, we should redo it again." He demanded firmly.
"I am sorry Amar!" she said apologetically, "I was so hungry, my stomach was growling! Mom didn't let me eat all day as it was a bad omen! And Reeya left all those sweets saying we'd need energy! You know she winked at me when she said that, why did she do that? Anyways, it was a little hot and clammy, so I took off my dupatta. If you really want filmy, we can start all over again, I will sit…"
He cut her off, "How many sweets did you eat?"
"Huh? 3 or 4 may be? Why? As I was saying I will cover my face.."
He puts his fingers on her lips to stop her blabbering, she felt a tingle going down her spine, "4 Laddos--Hmm…More than 400 calories for sure. You don't want to put on weight, do you?" he smiled mischievously.
Divya was confused. She didn't understand where her husband was going with it. She nodded implying negative.
He picked her up and carried her over to the bed. Smiled mysteriously while letting her down and whispered, "So let's take Reeya's advice and spend some of those extra calories!" he slid down the back of his index finger along her cheekbone and sat in front of her.
She quivered and looked at him with a blank face. What is he saying?
It suddenly dawned on her. She blushed the deepest shed of red, closed her eyes and looked down!
"My dearest wifee" He lifted her face up holding her chin in the filmy style and whispered, "Our wedding night is the best ever and I wouldn't change a single second of it!"
Divya looked up and beamed at him. Amar continued, "I do have a very insignificant present for you" he handed her a key-ring with two keys. "This one is opens the door to your house, I hope you will allow me to stay there with you, and this one opens your Audi A4 2008!"
"Thank you, you sweet liar!" She pushed his glasses back and squeezed his nose!
He leaned closer and kissed the hollow behind her ear, "Do you want to know what opens the door to my heart?"
Her pulse raged. She couldn't speak. What, she inquired with her eyes. He held her face with both his hands and leaned closer to her. She knew what was coming, felt the rush of blood to her face, each cell in her body ruptured in ecstasy. She closed her eyes and waited eagerly for the tidal wave of love to float her away to seventh heaven!
I am sorry friends. I am finding this FF becoming more and more boring with each update! So I have decided to speed things up and end it quickly...but still a long way to go if I want to end the way I want to...So so sorry for boring you......
