Hello darlings! This part is a little cheesy and boring...I had these little ideas and didn't want to throw them away..sorry if I bored you...
Part Twenty Six: Thank God Minutes are Free at Night
It was almost 2. They were sitting snuggling together in a loveseat.
"Ok, wifeee, time's up. Let's go." Amar got up and pulled Divya up holding both her hands. "You can't even imagine how difficult it is to stay away from you, especially now. But starting our journey in life with a lie would not make us happy."
Divya pressed her lips together. She didn't feel like going at all but she realized the truth in his words. "Ok." She assented in a low voice. "That's the responsible thing to do I guess."
"That's my girl!"
---------------------
He stopped in front of her house. Leaned over and kissed her cheek and whispered, "Goodbye." moved a strand of wayward hair behind her ear.
A dejected Divya looked at her house and looked back at him and in a disappointed tone asked, "Do I have to go?" Seeing his crooked smile, she leaned forward kissed his cheek and said "ok. Goodbye" haplessly and opened the door to get out.
He got hold of her hand and brushed his lips over the top of her palm and said, "I will be with you always. I promise!"
She nodded and got out.
-----
She changed into her night Cami and Pant and crawled into her bed, fluffed her pillow and hugged her Teddy bear and started recounting all the events that took place during the day. She never had such an eventful day in her entire life!
Her cell vibrated at that moment. A little startled she picked it up. When she saw 'Amar calling' her heart burst into a colorful rainbow after a brief drizzle of sorrow from separation!
"How is my wife doing?"
"Not good. I miss you." She whined, "When will you come tomorrow?"
"As soon as you wake up. And now we will talk all night till you fall asleep. How about that?" he smiled as if he is consoling a sad little girl.
"It would have been much better if you had let me stay! Now I have to hug my teddy in place of my husband."
"WOW! I am impressed! Girls these days are so forward!" He chuckled. "Listen, I have important news. I called my parents and they are flying in from Seattle tomorrow. They are simply ecstatic."
"Amar--OMG" she sounded nervous and shaky, "What if your parents don't like me?"
Amar laughed out loud. "Fishing for compliments hun? How can anyone not like you?"
"No seriously! You are so accomplished; they might think you deserve someone equally smart and good looking. I am so plain!"
"No. You. Are. Not! You are one of the smartest persons I know. Trust me I know quite a few of them! Have you ever seen yourself in the mirror? Your beauty is intensified a thousand times because you are completely unaware of it. You are grace and simplicity personified. Everything about you is natural, nothing is contrived. Do you know how rare that is? You are elegant, brilliant and dignified! I AM no match for you in any way. Everybody would burn in envy—would be so jealous of me! When we would walk together, people would whisper, what did she see in him? As my grandma would say, how did the monkey get a pearl necklace!!"
"Ok. Enough! I know you are being a nice husband but don't over do it dear! Don't let you imagination run that wild!" she tried to reason but she blushed and bit her lower lips! She was all mushy and mellow inside. She never heard Amar praise her before. But she knew he loved her so much, he would never notice how simple and boring she was!
"Hey I am just being truthful!" Amar declared.
"Right! I am all that! And you are virtually nothing! That's settled then. No arguments in future on this!"
"Absolutely! No fighting on that!"
"Good." She smiled and added, "When do you think we should tell my parents everything?"
"As soon as possible. You are leaving for your mission next Monday. So we need to be done with the formal wedding before that. Or we can have the ceremony after you get back but I don't want to wait. I hope its okay with you."
"Oh! I totally forgot about work! Hmmmm." She paused for a while, then continued, "Amar, I have decided. I don't want to go to my mission in India anymore. I will quit my job tomorrow. I can't be away from you even for a day. So the mission is not a constraint anymore but we should be done with it so that you can never throw me out of your place anymore." She laughed at her sweet revenge!
"Did I ever tell you that you are adorable? How long is the mission?"
"No to the first question. Two weeks. I am serious about quitting, I am not letting you out of my sight."
"What if I tag along with you? Classes don't start till mid of August, so we have the entire summer together."
"What do you mean? What will happen after Summer? You don't mean I will continue my job here in DC and you will stay in Boston? How can you even say that?"
"Divya, be reasonable. I don't want you to quit your job for me. As long as I don't find something here or you don't find something there, we will have a long distance relationship."
"No. You can't quit your job at Harvard. That would be crazy. I will quit and try to find something there. If I find something fine, if not, you will support me! There is no way we are staying apart."
"You love me that much, huh?"
"No. I love myself a lot. Can't let myself be in pain anymore. Eight years were enough."
He laughed again. "I was joking about the long distance thing, I can't stay a second away from you. I feel like eating you alive."
Divya was sleepy, it was almost morning, but she couldn't help saying, "We will see, who eats up whom."
