The next part is very cheesy - so don't say I didn't warn you!😉
Part 12
Amar opened his mouth in shock and said, "AHA! So I was right. You did get married!"
Divya, frustrated, "ARGH! You idiot! WE got married!"
Amar burst out laughing, "Are you ok, Princess?"
Divya blinked. She didn't know if she should be happy that he called her princess or offended that he just laughed at her. Picking the latter, she frowned, "It was a dream. It's not like it meant anything."
Amar sobered a bit, but the twinkle still hadn't left his eyes, "Remember you said you used to dream about people?"
Divya nodded, surprised that he remembered.
"Has it always been me?"
Divya looked away, unable to reply. It had always been him, but she hadn't known it was him until two days ago. Plus, would he think she was a freak? Oh well, he probably already thought that anyway. Turning back to him, she nodded.
Taking her hand in his, he whispered, "So you wrote about me?"
She nodded. She couldn't have spoken even if she had wanted to.
"What did you write?"
"Everything I saw in my dreams..."
Amar smiled, "And we were married?"
Divya shook her head and began gesturing frantically with her hands, "It was just a dream. It's not like it meant anything.."
Taking hold of her flailing hands to calm her, Amar said, "Or maybe it does mean something."
Immediately, Divya sat down. "You think so? I was thinking it meant something too!"
Amar chuckled, "Didn't you just say..?"
Divya snapped, "I know what I said." And then smiling to appease him a bit, she continued, "Do you think...maybe I'm seeing the past?"
"Why not the future?"
Divya's eyes widened, "The future?" She leaned in and looked at him expectantly.
Amar nodded and continued with a wink, "Maybe you and I get married...you should dream more often and see how many kids we have."
Divya scowled, "Are you making fun of me?"
Without giving him time to answer, Divya pushed aside the box to a corner and got up and left the attic.
----
Divya lay on her bed, staring at the intricate patterns on the ceiling. She didn't know how to feel about him. Sometimes, she felt as if she could tell him anything and other times, he was just so...so...obnoxious...that's the word!
A knock sounded on her door. Ignoring it, Divya turned to lay on her stomach. "Go away!" she groaned into her bedcover.
"Let me in, Divya!"
Getting no reply, Amar opened the door and let himself in. He saw her lying on the bed, her head turned away from him. He cleared his throat to alert her of his presence. She quickly twirled over and sat up straight, "What are you doing here?"
Taking a deep breath, he knelt next to her, "I didn't wait three years to find you just so I could 'go away' when you tell me to."
"What?" Divya asked, her breath rushing out.
Taking Divya's hand in his, Amar continued, "Divya, I know I act impossible at times, but it's only around you."
Biting her lip, Divya asked, "Is that supposed to make me feel better?"
Sighing, Amar ran a hand through his hair. Divya's eyes followed that gesture. Try as she might, she just can't be mad at him.
"Amar, it's al..." she said, slipping onto her knees in front of me.
"Let me finish," he interrupted. "These past three years have been the best of my life. They gave me hope, Divya - hope that somewhere out there, you're living, making plans, dreaming weird things (they both chuckle), just being you. And that gave me hope. Hope that I'd meet you again someday. And it was my drive, my motivation. I strived to do better, be better, to prove myself to you one day, Divya."
"Oh Amar, you don't have to prove anything. I love you just the way you are."
Amar continued, "But I do ne...you what?"
Divya stammered, "I...I...I like you. I like you so very much just the way you are."
"But you said..."
"Yes, I said I like you."
Sighing, Amar leaned in, "Don't you get it Divya? I am in love with you."
Divya continued staring at him, stupefied. She was finding it difficult to breathe.
Finally, tears rolling down her cheeks, Divya replied, "Oh Amar. I do love you. I'm just so stupid. I was so scared...I...didn't know what to say. I've always..."
Smiling through his tears, Amar pulled her close to hug her and whatever she was about to say was muffled against his neck.
Thank you so much everyone for reading! 🤗 This will be the last part for now (it's an even 12). I am going to take some time off from IF (studying, work, etc.) so I probably won't be continuing this anytime soon. Thank you all for reading and for the wonderful comments. I'm going to miss you all 🤗
