Part 24
Radha
The two of them slowly smiled at each other. I thought I was missing out on something.
"Truce?" Vidya offered. She sounded a bit wary.
"Absolutely," Sagar agreed and at once Vidya threw her arms around his neck and pulled him into a hug. "You're choking me," his voice came out strangled.
Vidya laughed and let him go and Sagar joined in as he embraced her back. All the while, I was watching them carefully. I was waiting for them to shout out saying it was all a joke and they were still enemies.
They finally finished their moment of rejoice and turned to look at me. I just stared at them.
"Radha, I know what you're thinking, but no we're not joking. We've decided to put our many differences aside and bring the potential of our friendship forward." Vidya walked over to me. "I'm so sorry for making you cry.... I'm horrible aren't I?"
When I was sure I wouldn't stutter out of shock I said, "I'm not dreaming right?"
Sagar laughed and came to stand beside me. He put his hands on my shoulders and looked me in the eye. "Yes, you're not dreaming. We really have decided to become friends."
It took a moment until I smiled widely. They responded with bright smiles as well. "Aww, you guys!" I pulled them into a group hug. "You two have irritated me for the past, oh I don't know, ELEVEN YEARS!!" We all laughed loudly.
"Well, well, well, what do we have here? We looked to see Annabel coming in with a teasing smile. "You know what they say, better late than never. I always knew my patience would be rewarded." She winked. Thank you God, I prayed silently.
**** 2 months later ****VidyaBeing friends with Sagar was easier that I ever thought it would be. Sure we had our dissimilar opinions on countless topics, but we sportingly accepted each others' point of views. But one thing I just couldn't stop scolding him about was his overconfidence with the ladies.
"Do you ever even realize how much some of these girls have fallen for you?" I asked on one of the countless evenings when Sagar would be on lying on
my bed eating
my pastries. He never ate anything else when he came to my dorm. "Do you not even care about the damage you cause to their hearts when you leave them?"
"Wah?" his mouth was full of food. I just rolled my eyes and handed him a napkin.
"You know? I hope you fall for a girl who will break your heart just so you know how it feels."
He raised an eyebrow at me.
But the truth was, I had a strong feeling that my wish was going to come true some day. I didn't want to see him experience a heartbreak. I guiltily remembered about the prank we played on him. I told Radha to stop sending him notes now that we were all friends. She seemed reluctant at first, but then agreed later on.
Sagar came into my room as I was remembering these little converstations. "Come to Times Square with me," he commanded like a five year-old. I was pretty used to him using this tone with Radha and me. It was funny at times.
I turned from the window to look at him. "Why may I ask?" I had nothing against Times Square. It was like my home. I grew up in New York so you could say I was a city girl. But Sagar's abrupt command surprised me.
"Ethan invited us to a Turkish restaurant there. He said they have amazing food and you know me. I love food," he smiled sheepishly.
"Sagar, I have nothing at all against parties, but you know your friends don't really make me feel comfortable," I was reminded of the cold stares I recieved whenever I was with Sagar... which was pretty often.
"Aww come on! I'll be there. Isn't that enough?" he intertwined his fingers in a pleading manner. "Pl
ease?" His expression was kind of hard to say no to and I guessed it didn't really matter who was attending the dinner invitation tonight as long as Sagar was with me.
"Oh fine fine!" I agreed. He smiled victoriously. "Let me change and tell Radha that I'll be late tonight." It was understood that Radha wouldn't even think about going to these parties. She said she had better things to do than watch people get drunk.
"Okie dokie partner," said Sagar in that same childish tone and I had to smile. He left the room and I took out my clothes. After I changed, I dialed Radha's number.
"Hey Rads, Sagar and I are going to Times Square for some dinner party." I said.
"Oh, well have fun and remember, friends don't let friends drive drunk," she laughed and I smiled.
"Yeah I'll keep that in mind and don't have dinner too late missy," I told her. Sometimes it felt like I was Radha's mom and vice versa whenever we were together. Our friendship was very deep. We knew each other inside and out.
"Yes I'll remember that now go party! Bye!"
"Bye," I hung up and sighed. If something went wrong tonight, then I would seriously strangle Sagar. I went to the little dresser in our room and finished the rest of my beautification.
