Vidya, a girl from Varanasi is timid, illiterate and has traditional beliefs. She is a devotee of Lord Shiva. She single handedly takes her mentally retarded husband Saagar to Singapore for an operation, but soon after the operation Vidya's problems grow worse as Saagar forgets her. Now she has started to learn English and Hindi to impress Saagar.

Divyanka's mother Mrs. Neelam Tripathi says, "Divyanka's nature in real life is very different from Vidya. Divyanka is very firm minded and she will do whatever she decides, but at the same time she believes in traditional values like if there is any party she will wear a Punjabi outfit as she says that she is very comfortable wearing it. Vidya cannot read and write, but Divyanka used to get high marks in all her exams starting from school up to college. She scored 82% during her graduation exams. She used to get good marks in all her projects. After accepting this role, she had to meet certain illiterate people to know how they handle their business in day to day life as it is very difficult to act as an illiterate. I think that I am her biggest critic as I regularly watch the serial and after it is over, she calls me and asks me as to where she went wrong."
