Episode 20
Maaji feels on top of the world, she moves on to hug Saagar tightly as a few tears escape her eyes.
Uma: Aaj tum dono ne itni bari khushi di hai….hum bata nahin sakte. (wipes the few drops rolling down her cheeks). Hum abhi yeh khush khabri sab ko sunate hai. Tum dono jaldi se neeche aao….nazar utarni hai.
Saagar: (at loss of words) Maa…aap.- (interrupted by Vidya)
Vidya: Maa aap neeche jayiye, hum abhi aate hai. (she shakes her head towards Saagar,indicating not to say anthing right now).
Uma nods her head and leaves immediately, she simply cannot stop grinning.
Vidya and Saagar face each other. Saagar walks a step towards her…
Saagar: (his eyes are overflowing with questions) Vidya…
Vidya: (quickly to reassure him) Shayad khane mein kuch tha, isliye…(her voice fades away)
Saagar: (tries to hide his disappointment) Oh…(smiles uneasily) good. (puts his hand his forehead) main bhi maa ki tara yeh baat…. (shrugs his shoulder and laughs a little) sach mane laga. (Vidya's guilty eyes look at him) Nahin.. (fake smiles) acha hua. Im not prepared to be a dad, mein abhi baap….I guess acha hua. (Saagar walks out, his eyes completely defeated his words)
Vidya looked down as he walked past, inside she felt remorse, a gulp caused her eyes to tear up.
Saagar walks down the stairs hopelessly, in his own world. He could've just been a father but it never was true. And maybe the last hope of his possible union with Vidya had gone. Just then he hears loud voices with full of rejoice…
Chinu: (rushes to Saagar) Dada! (hugs him tightly and then lets go) Dada…aap ko bahut bahut mubarak ho! Aap papa bane wale hai. (proudly) Aur hum chacha! (Saagar gives a fake smile)
Everyone congratulates him and Saagar attempts fully to look the slightest bit happy and he succeeded to an extent.
Sindoora: (irritated) Yeh shor sharaba kya ho raha hai. Chinu, kya hua?
Chinu: (walks to stand in front of her) Arre Sindoora di, agar yeh khush khabri aap sunegi toh aapka bhi mann chahega shor karne ka!
Sindoora: (frowns) Chinu, seedhe seedhe batao. Baat kya hai?
Chinu: Aap bua bane wali hai!
Sindoora is glued to the ground which seemed like it was going to burst open any second. Had she heard right?
Chinu: Vidya bhabhi maa bane wali hai aur Dada papa.
Sindoora is speechless out of bewilderment. It was true!! The heir had come, her plans…they all were ruined. Anger and disbelief pour out from every corner of her eyes.
Aniketh: (looks puzzled at her reaction) Sindoora…. (she stands motionless, he repeats again) Sindoora! (she finally reacts).
Sindoora: (looks at Aniketh) huh…
Aniketh: (smiles) kya hua?? Arre bhai tumhare bhai ka itna bara din hai. Mu toh meetha karvao.
Sindoora: (her heart beats fast but she evokes a smile somehow) Huh? Ji…! Abhi mein….(looks at Saagar and walks towards him)
She stares and stares and thinks to herself, how on earth this could happen. Saagar could not stand Vidya before and the time when Vidya had gone out of the house, she refused to talk to him. Maybe in Beneras? No…can't have. Thousands of questions play in her mind. Again, she puts a fake smile on to her not-so amused face, she leaps to hug him.
Sindoora: (strokes his hair) Beta, aaj mein bahut khush ho….(lets go of him but holds his face) mera bhai kitna bara hogaya hai. (turns back) Mahua! Jaldi meethai le aao…(turns back to look at Saagar)
Mahua and Chandra are both confused at Sindoora's excessive behaviour. Just then a lost Vidya comes down and every smile is pointed towards her. Saagar turns to look at Vidya, both stare at each other as Vidya walks down the stairs. What were they supposed to do? Everyone was so happy. She reached downstairs to stand next to Saagar while everyone looked on.
Sindoora: (takes hold of Vidya's shoulder and softly says) Vidya…thank you so so much (raises her voice slightly) aaj tumne iss ghar ko sabse bara tohfa diya hai. (grits her teeth) I can't thank you enough (breaks in to a smile but Vidya felt the vibe)
While most are happy, some put on a pretence.
*At Night*
In Saagar and Vidya's bedroom. Vidya is standing by the open window as the wind blows in her fresh face. Saagar comes in and stands on the other side of the window, both look out…as if searching for something.
Saagar: (breaks the silence) Sab kitne khush the
Vidya: (realises that she is not alone, looks at Saagar but then retraces her eyes) Haa.
Saagar: Sach toh batana hi hoga. Main kal subhe hi sab ko sach bata duga.
Vidya: (both still face the open black sky) lekin maa?
Saagar: Ek na ek din toh sachayi saamne aa hi jayegi. Aur jab iss baat mein kabhi sachayi ho hi nahin sakti (sighs with grief) toh kya fayda…
Vidya turns to look at a reflecting Saagar.
Saagar: (continues) Maa ko sachai ka saamna karna hi parega. Sab ko karna hoga….humare tumhare beecha na kabhi kuch tha, na hai aur na hoga. Yeh baat maine maan li hai (Vidya feels the guilt again as her heart sinks). Auro ko bhi maani hogi.
Saagar turns to look at Vidya, he smiles ever so slightly.
Saagar: Der bahut hogayi hai…so jao.
Vidya: (nods her head and looks down) Hmm
Saagar goes away leaving Vidya near the light breeze. Her eyes brim with tears, as her left hand leans on the wall next to the window, the other forces itself towards her stomach. Her right hand presses lightly on part of the sari which is covering her skin.
Vidya: (looks down) sachai koi nahin jaanta…(looks up) aap bhi nahin (tears roll down)
