why do in laws harass their bahu?

i just watched a story on tv just like banoo main teri dulhan but it was a documentary abt the daughter in law of the house and it just surprised and shocked me to much,why do daughter in laws have to suffer like this?it sickens me😭but in this story the daughter in law was treated like a maid and vids wasnt😕and she was beaten,its stupid and it shud be against the law,but the daughter in laws are sometimes afraid becoz they do not want to ruin her immediate family's honor

I think its because women in India have always been treated like crap and that the don't stand up for themselfs. If women took a stand against being harassed, nobody would have the courage to harass them.

yes, but the interesting thing is that it is women themselves who treat other women like crap. in the majority of the cases its almost always the mother-in-law who either instigates or helps the husband in harassing their wives.

thats right u guys,it does happen,and it happened to my moms cousin sister in india but she left her husband got divorce and now she is remarried

Family problems are always be there in a marrige.
Sometimes its in-laws poor attitude and sometimes its bad behaviour from daughter in-law.
In each case, if son/husband balances the relationship with care,there would be a healthy envoirnment.

it is not always the in-laws bothering th e bahu it could be vice versa u know. but they show it on TV like this b/c of stereotype. The idea of Mother in law and other in laws are "supposed" to "torture" the bahu used to happen often in the old days and now it has become stereotypical issue. it happens now but small chance that it is torture...every has different cases.

well for me its the thing that women in india do not stand up for themselves they either have no guts to stand up for their right and they have this guilty feeling of how their own parents are gonna react like a lot of people their are modern but when it comes to mother in laws and sister in laws they become mice it really sickens me as we women have to take a stand against abuse as it isn't right i mean we all have our own ways of living and its not only in india that their is a problem but also in many other countries that women fear their husbands i think we should just leave them as we can do a lot without them they cannot survive without us.... anyways everytime i watch dramas i always make sure i learn a lesson or two on how mother in laws well react... anyways in vidya's case she is a pure innocent victum or abuse by her sister in laws all she needs to do is be like what are you doin living in your fathers home why you are not living at ur husbands house anywyas this kinda stuff really gets to me...

its like this all these years mother or sisters had control of house and all of a sudden someone else comes and tries to take care of everything which they dont like and tries to dominate her. this usually happens in joint family.
