HI folks. I just saw the controversial episode on Singapore TV earlier this evening. I agree Prithviraj has a big ego and is a poor loser but Simbu has an even bigger ego and he was the one who provoked the whole exchange. He knew P was upset and he could have settled scores backstage instead of provoking him publicly. Indeed, Simbu's behaviour has been obnoxious right from the start -- he thinks he's a "superstar" and has even appropriated the role of the host. Disguisting.

That said, all this is due to the America Idol effect. Americans are generally more upfront, contentious, litigous, individualistic. When Singapore, India and several other Asian countries began adopting the American Idol format of having judges critique participants upfront, I knew it wouldn't go down well most participants. Asians generally tend to be very concerned about face and honour and don't criticise or like being criticised in public.

Serves us right anyway for mindlessly mimicking American behaviour. We now have to suffer such theatrics as the Simbu-Prithviraj one.
