I owe a lot to Balika Vadhu'

DC | Lipika Varma | January 18, 2015, 02.01 am IST
TV actor Siddharth Shukla

Popular TV actor Siddharth Shukla will soon be exiting Balika Vadhu as his character will be killed to take the story forward. Soon, the audience will see Shiv being killed by terrorists. The charecter will die a hero and then the track will focus on his wife Anandi dealing with the tragedy and coping with being a single mother to newly-born twins.

Siddharth, however, is not too worried about exiting a show that made him a household name in a short span of time, given that he has already made a Bollywood debut with Karan Johar's Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya.

Thanks to Balika Vadhu and Babul Ki Aangan Chootey Na, Siddharth is hugely popular today. He, however, humbly says, "I opted to do television serials before jumping into Bollywood because I didn't know how to act. The only choice was to do an acting course which would have taken three months. I opted for television as I wasn't financially well off. Television was the only way I could learn and act at the same time."

Talking about his character in Balika Vadhu ending, he says, "I am shooting for the show for a week longer. I owe a lot to Balika... because I got work after people saw me on the show. I owe a lot to television and the show both. A lot of credit goes to my co-stars and also to my previous show Babul Ka Aangan Chootey Na; also my director was brilliant. I learnt the ABCD of acting because he taught me."

But isn't he slightly worried about leaving the show because it can be tough to get another lead role in a hit show? "I am not scared or insecure about the future. Besides I really need to unwind from my hectic work schedule."

The actor has no hard feelings about the production house's decision to end his role as he was told well in advance about the storyline. "I was aware that my character would end. It was probably the idea of the creatives," he says, adding, "But I have no grievances whatsoever, I was updated about it much in advance."

After spending almost all his time with his co-stars during work, won't it be strange not to see them every day? Whom will he miss the most from sets? "I will miss them but unfortunately you can't stay in touch with everyone. That's life and besides there will be new people entering my life."

After his final shoot for the show wraps up, Siddharth, like all TV actors do, will go on a much-deserved holiday to relax and unwind after working non-stop for months at an end. Next up on his agenda is to spend time with his mother.

And what next on the work front? Any movies? Siddharth confesses that he hasn't got any Bollywood offers. "I shall choose roles only if the character is appealing to me," says the actor who initially thought someone was playing a prank on him when Dharma Productions got in touch with him to act in HSKD. The movie offers may not be pouring in yet, but on the TV front people are already offering him work. He has gotten an offer from Savdhan India and Siddharth says he is thinking about it.

Good to hear from Siddharth that too after watching yesterday's heart breaking episode.
So it is true. The decision was taken by the creative to end his character for their story and no other reason.
Wish they could have come up with a storyline that gave us a strong self reliant Anandi with Shiv still standing by her side and not in her memories.
Looks like the writers don't seem to know how to write stories for a couple where both are equally strong characters.
Wish him all the best for his future projects

Thanks for sharing Artee 😊 Such a contradiction this article is to the TOI article 😆 Don't know whom to believe and whether to laugh or cry 😆
So if it's creatives take then it looks like with the scripting of Shiv's entry his death had also been thought of.. Along with us it will take him some time to accept the fact that he isn't shooting anymore and it will also give him his me time 😊

Anyways all the best to Siddharth for his future 😊

Thanks for sharing,

Thank you Siddharth Shukla for bringing out various traits of Shivraj Shekhar on screen with so much perfection and grace that it will always remain in the memory of BV viewers.

My best wishes for his future projects.

Wished that CVs had found a way ( there were many ) to keep SRS alive at his wife's side to encourage her while she moves forwards in her goal of making life wonderful for others.

We also owe a lot to you for making this wonderful character alive on our TV screens, Siddharth.
You were brilliant as Shiv. In future you may get even better, different shaded, stronger roles, but your Shiv will always remain most memorable.
All the best for your future projects. Waiting for your comeback soon!!

Good to read his interview

He is always very humble and always gives credit to bv for what he is today

He has always shared good relation with everyone and dont have any hard feelings.

He clarified that not his but shivs journey was that much in bv and now it will focus on anandi who will be shown victim to address another social issue and other characters will be shown supporting, opposing her

With him they cant show this thru protagonist so they bumped him off

Thank you Arti.
Great job Mr. Siddharth Shukla, All the best for your next project.

Whether it was the Creatives doing or Siddharth's personal decision, Anandi is left all alone. Why should good human beings be shown as suffering always is best known to director. And this is not a temporary suffering, its a life long never healing wound for Anandi.
It is a sadistic piece of writing, all said and done.

Shiv was not an Army man to show his bravery to fight terrorists single handedly. He was a district collector and should have been given tasks suited to his role. Lots of creative liberty taken here by the director.

Thanks Arti
Siddharth made Shivraj Shekhar his own 👏 ⭐️

As posts mentioned in this thread, wish we could have seen journey of Anandi and Shiv together - Anandi carving out an identity of her own even with the strong charismatic presence of Shiv in her life - wouldn't that be much more challenging for writers?? I guess this will always be an open ended question for me..

All the best Siddharth for your future projects!!

Vijaya - replacing the actor or ending the character can only be decided by the creative team.
So here it is their decision but why they took this decision is something we don't know.If it was the actor's decision to quit what stopped them from replacing him?
They ended the character because they couldn't incorporate him into the story they wanted to tell without side-lining the character.
Sad turn of events; in all this Anandi gets something that she doesn't deserve.
