There were some falshbacks which DS and Sumi had...like when shiv was touching the toran with sword, DS had FB of jagya...and also during pheras and all...

and of course anandi closing her ears...

then i guess when J was watching the wedding on TV - he also had some FBs

so they did show it and tried to give a message, only thing they missed is show the thought process of the individual after having the flashback...and draw the contradictions by him/her

That diff between two marriages , that would go so well with the theme, even now when they can show FB of small A , They can show the diff in her life also thru those FBs
