But that's the point isn't it Annika. That the two families react differently because of their different lifestyles, background, education level, basically different frames of references. So why compare apples and oranges?
Yes I agree that as a mother, Ira is justified in being angry but that does not justify her reminding Anandi about her former BV or divorcee status. Yes those statuses are the truth and fact of Anandi's life but it does not define her and neither does it show Ira's so called higher class nor can it be called impeccable behavior. Her son is not a toddler, he is a grown man. As outraged as she is, she could have still remained within her elevated 'culture', 'class' and waited for UD to leave before pouncing on Anandi. Anandi even tried to speak to her and told her that what you are hearing is half the truth but like UD she chose to believe an outsider rather than her own DIL. That's right, Anandi is now her DIL not and outsider that she owes nothing to. No matter how justified she is, her common sense should have prevailed, but what she proved is that she has been deeply influenced against Anandi and any appearance of a transgression by Anandi is enough to bring out her true inner thoughts.
In fact I like that they are showing this, because it shows that the Shekhars are not perfect either (besides what we saw of Saanchi and CM) and it shows that Shiv is quite human too and there will be times when his actions or decisions will not please everyone. A man is usually in a very precarious position when caught between friction of his mum and wife. Shiv probably took it for granted that his mum would understand him and we have to give him props for showing other mamaa's boys that supporting your wife doesn't make you disloyal or less of a man.
In a way I am glad that Singh's do not behave like they owe the Shekhars the world for marrying their BV, divorcee status daughter. This will teach other families of brides to not always cower in front of the grooms families, in constant apprehension of what the next demand might be (not that Shekhars are like this). It's nice to see how they show both families depicted with equality despite their different reactions to different situations. BOTH families are actually true to their characters. Besides, Singh's have always shown utmost respect to Shekhars.
