Shekhars reaction was controlled compared to what would have been Singhs reaction in similar situation. But I agree with other forum members that different reaction was expected due to their background.
But everybodies reaction (except Daddu, Alok and Meenu) was OTT. What DS did was pure selfish and I do not agree with Singhs/Anandi/Shiv's justification that what she did was out of love. But what DS said was in no way Anandi's fault. If UD did not want to marry her daughter after listening to DS, she was more at fault (80%) compared to DS fault (20%). So UD shouting at DS was still understandable, but her blaming Anandi and telling that her daughter is still unmarried etc. is OTT. And I dont understand why nobody - Sanchi, Shekhars or Shiv told her that the match with her daughter was not finalised.
Ira's reaction looked OTT because the issue was not such grave that she accused Anandi to trap Shiv. DS told some (imaginary) bad things about Shiv to UD and UD told same things (during mandir episode) to Anandi in front of Shekhars and now again in Jaitsar and KB. It is not that Shiv got badnam because of this, perhaps just a few persons know what DS said to UD. And being a mother myself, I can say every mother knows her child more than anyone else. So Ira should know that Shiv is not a person that can easily get trapped by some divorcee balika vadhu. Shiv's reaction was also not correct because he had the obligation to tell these things when he came to know about this (before marriage), even now instead of getting angry, he should have explained clearly and calmly.

But that's the point isn't it Annika. That the two families react differently because of their different lifestyles, background, education level, basically different frames of references. So why compare apples and oranges?

Yes I agree that as a mother, Ira is justified in being angry but that does not justify her reminding Anandi about her former BV or divorcee status. Yes those statuses are the truth and fact of Anandi's life but it does not define her and neither does it show Ira's so called higher class nor can it be called impeccable behavior. Her son is not a toddler, he is a grown man. As outraged as she is, she could have still remained within her elevated 'culture', 'class' and waited for UD to leave before pouncing on Anandi. Anandi even tried to speak to her and told her that what you are hearing is half the truth but like UD she chose to believe an outsider rather than her own DIL. That's right, Anandi is now her DIL not and outsider that she owes nothing to. No matter how justified she is, her common sense should have prevailed, but what she proved is that she has been deeply influenced against Anandi and any appearance of a transgression by Anandi is enough to bring out her true inner thoughts.

In fact I like that they are showing this, because it shows that the Shekhars are not perfect either (besides what we saw of Saanchi and CM) and it shows that Shiv is quite human too and there will be times when his actions or decisions will not please everyone. A man is usually in a very precarious position when caught between friction of his mum and wife. Shiv probably took it for granted that his mum would understand him and we have to give him props for showing other mamaa's boys that supporting your wife doesn't make you disloyal or less of a man.

In a way I am glad that Singh's do not behave like they owe the Shekhars the world for marrying their BV, divorcee status daughter. This will teach other families of brides to not always cower in front of the grooms families, in constant apprehension of what the next demand might be (not that Shekhars are like this). It's nice to see how they show both families depicted with equality despite their different reactions to different situations. BOTH families are actually true to their characters. Besides, Singh's have always shown utmost respect to Shekhars.
