She is putting in a lot of effort.

Right now she is performing when the scene is written well.Without a well written scene she is not able to connect with the character.

It is very important that she herself connects with the character then only she will be able to convince the viewers.

She has to understand Anandi and think how Anandi would act/react in given circumstances then only she will be able to get it right.If she feels Anandi while performing every thing works out.

Body language voice modulation etc won't matter if she gets the feel right.

Agreed! Her performance today was significantly better than her initial days because she was given well written scenes. Her effort is of course evident from day one till now, and it is due to her effort and her team's support that she's been able to come this far (despite the odds that were and still are against her).
Anandi is a fairly complex character to portray, which is why it often needs the backing of a decent script to ensure that the character continues to live up to its standards. I felt that Toral's confidence was evident today because of a well written scene...and I guess that's what it'll take to give her a boost and help her further connect with the character...so much so that she's eventually able to perform well regardless of the quality of the scene. That'll definitely take time, but I'm glad the production team has finally understood the funda and are giving her (and the entire show for that matter) a much improved script!
Exactly! If she gets the feel right then body language and voice modulation will automatically follow...once she gets even deeper into the skin of Anandi, then it'll seem like she's grasping those techniques effortlessly and that's why they won't matter at all. Even now, we're noticing her body language and voice modulation because we can see that she's working hard on those aspects of her performance.
Thankfully, Udaipur has come as a breath of fresh air for the show, the audience, and Anandi alike! 😃

Till now what i have seen i would say that Toral is a daring and hard working actor which made her get this role...even director knew that physically she is far different from Pratyusha but yet her hard working behaviour made them and me believe that she can do this role really well...even in scenes where her performance was dull it could clearly be seen that she was trying hard and it was more because of the story line that her acting got haywire...if she is given good scenes and dialogus and made to act the way she does rather than imitate Pratyusha then she can really pull off the act and make places in BV viewers heart as new Anandi...Toral goes haywire when she tries to act like old Anandi which needs to be stopped immediately

GOOD LUCK TORAL AND JUST GIVE YOUR BEST...YOU HAVE THE POTENTIAL AND FOR ME YOU ARE REALLY A GOOD ACTOR !!! 👏

I was out the entire day yesterday and today! ---what a beautiful thread I see!!

: ) :)

Toral had been working in 3-4 shows before this. Though this gives enough experience to the actor, the acting becomes cliched. There is a certain way -certain soap actors behave and she got used to that.

She wasn't lucky to get BV -like directors in her first show who could teach her how to properly portray the scene.

Sidharth SHukla once mentioned in the interview that , in Balika Vadhu , the director is the one who tells you what to do. Every single action and moment he dictates. And sriti also confirmed it again in the same interview that even if its a little finger that you have to move , he tells you. Sid then added that the 90% of acting that we see on the screen is cause of the director.

Lets take the example of Avinash: Who played little jagya. I watched couple of his scenes in Sanskar-they do not have that much impact as it did when he played jagya. Not cause Avinash cannot act , its cause of the role he is given.

Avika is known to be Anandi not Roli.
In the end the storyline and the character matters. And the director is the one who shapes up the actor to much extent.

=======

so now Toral , the biggest issue is -for me -her coy scenes. She is slowly getting the hang of it.. and she will soon nail it I am sure.

Like in the holika dahan episode... she was to be shy of holding Shiv's hand that was nicely done.. but her moment of getting her hand towards Shiv's hand was WAYYY TOO SLOW.
I am like no one goes that slow!!

butt what I LOVED LOVED LOVEDDD in yesterday's episode was

the same Anandi , ( notice the direction) took Shiv's hand by her own will and dragged him outside to play tricks on the entire family.

I love Balika Vadhu for that, first scene she is too hesitant to even hold Shivs hand and second scene she is dragging him.

I really hope the directors realize that, they do not have to show the shyness or coy ness by making the actor move in tortoise speed , which inturn gives the fake-appearance that many members complain about.

She does brilliantly when given normal scenes.
===

Her speaking:
I know Toral can speak real real real fast. We saw that in the first episode. I LIKEd that. yeah not that fast but now the pace has been reduced and is normal. LIke in yesterday's episode-the conversation with CM and the conversation with Jagya- perfeecttt!!!

The voice modulation was perfect. I remember the scene when Anandi told off jagya (well sort off) when he had come to meet her in the shed during Gauri's stay. The dialogue given were extremely slow -though they were heavy.

The reason was_Anandi was going through hell at that time, she sounded like a depressed beaten down woman and that is how they speak. And the actor ( I do not want ot mention names cause the mods have said to not mention the other actors name in the same thread of the new actor) pulled it off perfectly.

This new dialogue delivery is faster cause Anandi is happier.
I hope the creatives do keep that in mind and never make Anandi speak in a beaten down way again.

The bhashan baazi -as put down by others here- is GONE! yay!

but its ANandi so I am not going to surprised if it comes back. Its really not Anandi its the director who will make that decision so I HOPE HOPE he does not ever bring that side back of Anandi.

===

All in all.. more than the actor himself or herself in this show, its the director So hats off to him. He needs to put in double effort now cause T has to fill in a famous shoe and make an image for herself along the way. !!

Yup..I guess you also understand where the "wary" bit is coming from... I don't want this high point to last for a couple of episodes and things to start spiraling downwards until the CVs think of another social issue to tackle. There are numerous social issues in a society...even some issues that are solved can be revisited. For example, I loved how Chotima's lack of presence in Holi celebrations due to being a widow was highlighted... being a modern bahu in a modern Shekhar household, she wears colourful sarees and that makes it seem like the issue of her being a widow is nonexistent... however, it is not! She stopped applying mehndi (as seen at Shiv's mehndi ceremony) and she doesn't celebrate Holi either...so clearly, she is still following some ridiculous and pathetic excuses of "orthodox norms!" Point being, that there is (unfortunately for the society and fortunately for the show) not a shortage of social issues. I hope the production team realizes that and continues to shed light on the variety of social issues that are present (whether they're as big as the ones in Jaitser, or as minimal as the ones in Udaipur..namely the Shekhar household).
And yes...so glad you agree! Bhashans are indeed exhausting and because of that they fail to deliver the message intended (or so I feel). Conversations are engaging and hence far more enlightening. I guess that the shift from bhashans to conversations might be a result of Anandi's move from Jaitsar to Udaipur. In Jaitsar, the people need bhashans to have some sense knocked into them (the most recent example would be Ganga's bhashan to the Singhs)...reading between the lines doesn't seem to be a skill they've mastered and so they need to be explained every little thing from A-Z (once again, I'm being biased and primarily speaking about the Singhs). In Udaipur/the Shekhar household, the family members are far more open with each other and hence more understanding...they don't need lectures, but just a heartfelt conversation that instigates a moral boost. 😊
And once again I went on talking about the show and not Toral's performance! Sorry!!! 😳

Really good points Masin.

I so agree about the widow issues. Generally, it is thought that this kind of practices are not prevalent in modern families, however contrary to this, some of the social injustices are practiced quite strongly in modern homes. I was quite surprised to see on SMJ when they aired the female foeticied episode, how many educated families were guilty of this crime. I really hope BV CV's do focus more on this stuff, especially in the modern setting too so that the myth that this only occurs in gaons is broken.

@ bold, I just love how you penned it. It is so true. It all depends on who the recipient of a communication is. Method and delivery all depends on the recipient for maximum effect.

So good to have meaningful discussions again.

Thanks everyone.

@ parri814:Thank you for your kind words! :) And yes, I myself was SO surprised to see that episode of SMJ! Not only that, but I was quite surprised to see that Chotimaa doesn't celebrate Holi..I haven't seen today's episode yet, but according to the written update, Daddu was saying that they've tried to convince Chotimaa to play Holi numerous times but to no avail. I found that so shocking...I mean, here's this picture perfect modern family that is unfortunately still stuck in old, derogatory customs!
I'm so glad this issue was raised...it was quite the eyeopener for me too! Before I used to be all praises for the Shekhars and their lifestyle...but clearly they've got some glitches that need to be fixed too...which is great cuz that's what makes them all the more normal!
And yes, I'm equally happy about having meaningful discussions once again! Thank you everyone :)
