Chapter 5 ---
Anandi's new journey...the emotional farewell to the place she called home...--- well, it was written beautifully...but I couldn't connect emotionally..because always going away from home was something that cheered me, a thrill for adventure or unknown, its anticipation, getting settled to the new atmosphere occupied my mind mostly.. but yes, a feeling of heavy weight in chest would be there until I cross the threshold of home...but once beyond the gates, its new adventure...Aha! but there have been times when you leave a place you called home for years - the one which you set up as home and lived there calling it your own - when u leave such a place, a yearning to go back to that place, a longing and wish thinking about when would you be able to come back to that place would be there...It all depends on the indulgence that place or people there makes you feel...
"However barren it appeared, the kindred spirit of her people made up for what it didn't offer in picturesque sights. It made me wonder if everyone leaving their home felt this same onslaught of memories" ---- I gave my thoughts above :-)

"One too many to fully relive them in the flicker of the second they were kindled, only to be overtaken by another".---- wow! that's true...memories have a powerful capability to overwhelm you and the mind process them at ligtening speed when u are vulnerable!

" To this end, I truly understood why it was necessary to leave behind the familiarity of home at least once, even if only temporary. How the stubby jasmine plant, the creaky garden door and the annoying leaky faucet were all perfect in their imperfections. The nostalgia left a bitter taste in my mouth and I had little doubt that it would long before anything of what lay ahead of my path would seem palatable to me." --- :-) It's always good to leave the familiarity of home, sometimes you need to venture out and experience all dangers, make mistakes...you can't always be sheltered...you can always remember the safety and embracing feel your imperfect home gave you...but exposure to outside world will teach u so many things worth knowing...to gain something, you got to sacrifice certain comforts...

"For most part of the journey I felt like I was sputtering to let out my new found wings to fly away from the place that had nurtured me all along. Like baby birds that jumped off their nests without any sense of the dangers that came with that free fall." --- loved the metaphor and scripting...can visualize the feeling...

It was too late for second thoughts, I reckoned when I had already begun to drop towards the unknown that lurked beneath. I only hoped to find my way back home, even if I were to hit the ground along that hurtling fall. --- Good luck!!

he he...am actually reading this one very slowly, cherishing the feel of words, the emotions of the characters..So far the first 5 chapters, Anandi is just setting out...Only Shiv is the one who impressed me here...But in Labyrinth --- there is Vishwa, Dev, Arjun and importantly Shyama, and Adhitya for whom I am waiting...plus thats an epic which I am familiar with and there is something special about that story --- I think its the modern backdrop to the epic and the way you pattern it which intrigues me...Here Anthapura, I am not familiar with Balika Vadu serial...Anandi, the name I have heard but have no idea what the story is about...I just love the way you string the words, present the story with your bit of philosophical thoughts..I enjoy that!! .the only guy I am familiar is Prithiviraj! He is Shiv??

He he! I cannot tell if you will fall for them just like the others, but I'm sure they cannot be your least favorite either.
And I'm not talking about Shiv and Anandi :)

You don't have to know the story of Balika Vadhu for this. I started this story because I wanted to write about a lead character named Shiv - that's all.

:-) Confirmed! Am already falling for this guy Shiv!!!

"When nothing helped, I called the only person I could trouble with my woes in the middle of the night - though I couldn't wrap my head around the reasons why I thought he would understand. Or why I sought him among others who were far more a friend that he was.---he he...this line does remind me of someone, from another time! Sigh! To have a person like that would be a blessing...And am glad that Anandi has someone to share her grief and woes..because beyond a point, it drowns you especially when u r in a new atmosphere where you haven't still got a footing...

Am sure, I will fall for villians even if the story is good...I had a huge crush on Shyam of IPKKND..he he...

"And it happens to be one of those nights you are hungry as a horse, but you wouldn't settle for anything less than that one dish you are fixated in your head."--- ha ha! yes, that was a beautiful way to add a feeling which we all have felt in our lives..
"It was as if I was back in Jaitsar again and there wasn't a thing that needed fixing in my life that moment. "--- I dunno why but I felt a bit sad for Anandi reading this line...

""Now, that is a kitchdi everyone can resist." --- this man is wonderful! I can see him in my mind...there is something about his charm which brings a smile...

My god! this man is really really something! how can he be so good??? ""These setbacks should only be seen as instances to drive our personal motivation up, not the other way round. I understand that being sent out of class is an image issue for you, but you will hardly remember it once you focus on the things that actually matter." and the way he explained about his grades, about Saanchi...:-) he reaches out and provides a soothing and calming effect, one which can guide you back on track or one which promises that I would be there to watch your back...a solid support!!! I am totally floored by him!!

Prithvi Sukumaran -Really??? you are going to be the death of me! I was in love with him until he got married he he he..

""Do you always have all answers handy for my queries?"--- to have a friend who could give u some reasonable solutions to alll your problems is a blessing Anandi!!

Prithvi has come with a bang!
I loved the way you wrote about an Artist through Anandi's POV...I have always felt the same curious questions she too felt...An artist is an intriguing personality, their talents are interlinked with their hidden back story...it's their strength and drive their passion, dedication, leads to their ultimate satisfaction...

Even I am taken aback with the PA proposition..I never saw it coming...and am glad that Privithi didn't make her weak knee person..

"". No roti business for me. Did you get that?" lol!! I loved that!!

"I was already scowling at him, when he added, "Do you know to make idli, dosa, vada?" ---typical south indian!! lol!!

"That was a lot of arrogance to be embodied as one person, I thought. Did men like him ever get married? I was only more concerned and interested in the women who would be meted out such injustice in gaining such men as their suitors. --- he he...again a common thought! I am loving this interaction!!

""You do this and in exchange I will help you with all that you need to take upon the degree initials that you are hell bent on receiving."--- ha ha...what a wonderful business negotiation!

""You still haven't answered me?" He said and I met his gaze with a question. "About what?" I asked."About the idli, dosa and vada. It's a definite deal breaker." He said finally assenting to a small smile of amusement.--- wow!! i loved this scene!!

"Openly studying me, he gave a knowing smile - like I was walking into my death trap and the image brought a sudden cold sweat to my palms. "With time, you will know when to talk." --- Cool! this guy has truly some style!!

"The next instant, I nearly fell out of my seat when he got to his feet and screamed as if all hell broke loose."--- loved the picture you painted of Anandi's confusion..

"Once outside, I breathed. I needed to exhale fully to let the tension seep out of my body,I knew exactly what I had to do next and dug into my purse searching for my cell phone.

"Your friend is a mental. Total nut case. Do you know that?" ---lol!! i await to see Shiv's reaction...totally loved meeting Prithvi!!

"first impressions were just that. Impressions" -- that's true...impressions which can be/which will be modified later as we get to know the person more..
"In reality, he didn't need a personal assistant at all. I was merely the outsider formally endowed with the diminished responsibilities of what his family member would have been entitled to" &
"I knew I wasn't in the same consciousness of his art, or space or his silence."---again something which connects or which I can relate to!

""Mandu' ---cute..even in malayalam it means the same.."Mandi penne" is a common chiding in a teasing as well as fondly way.

"I could see he was two different people at once. But, it was as if those two different personalities were essential to his existence. He was nothing, if not split between those extremes. One distant and private, accessible only to himself and the other side of him who didn't mind smiling at my jokes was hardly exposed to others, with the exception of perhaps Shiv" --- of tourse, some people are like...I think most of us do that kind of split personalities right??? One which is deeply us and other the face which we present to others...Only few can venture into our deep personality zone..provided we allow them!

"when I had already read the other unspoken details in her eyes. Things that couldn't be entailed in an introduction - the first touch of pain that came in her eyes at the sight of him" --- wow!! there is something poetic in these lines which I can't put a finger on...but its beautiful...may be its 2 women facing each other with words...

It didn't take me long to put two and two together that she was the her he'd referred to. --- oh! you really stumped me!!

"Somewhere in the time their nearness had registered in each other's awareness.---hmm, it happens, you have bought it out beautifully!!
"Have you been wearing your contacts while sleeping? Why are your eyes swollen? Are you sleeping at all?" Panic stricken, her hands flew to hold his face and he still wouldn't answer her. --- my my! her concern is so heart warming...
"when he closed his eyes and threw his head back with a suffering sigh, it was obvious that it was more than what he could endure then and he pulled out of her hold, albeit by taking a slow reluctant step back which let her fingers trail down his face and he started to pick up the brushes on the table --- wonderfully painted that intense emotion of Prithvi!

So papa darling is the villian??? His reasoning and justification says how much he is in tune with his work. He covers all angles before making a artistic decision..

The paintings and their placements had been a sheer excuse, I concluded hearing the desperation in her voice. --- ha ha :-) yes, you would excel in inventing situations when you are in deep love with someone...

"Didn't they say lover's quarrels were a renewal of their love?--- Is it so??

"the illusion of privacy" --- loved the phrase..

I should say that I was surprised to know that Shiv knew Mitra and the issues of Prthvi and Mithra and he called on the spot, I mean within seconds of Prithvi leaving...to Anandi's phone...

The interaction of 2 women was interesting...Anandi was kind of not knowing how to deal but wanted to offer...I loved the way you painted Mitra through Anandi's eyes and Anandi's assurance of Prthvi having food and sleep (according to her knowledge) or her need to convey these small details to Mitra tells her compassion towards Mitra even though later she says that she will help Mitra but that is her way of helping Prithvi..Even Mitra's knowledge on Anandi and their small talk was kind of interesting...I was impressed with Anandi's simplicity like "dumb doorknob" where as Mitra is a sophisticated business woman I guess...The professor-student relationship and Mitra giving up painting and not able to distinguish between colors now speaks of a hidden sorrow...a terrible heartbreak from which she isn't recovered even now...she is trapped in her sorrows and pain and he too is captured at the same pain...and it is painful for both of them...aha! You wrote precisely what love between them is ----Love, it seemed, had never been a problem between them. Each had enough to recompense if one did run out of affections for the other. But living, it appeared, had become nothing short of a challenge to him, when he went through the motions of life as if he was a disappearing shadow. In the twenty odd days, I had observed him I didn't believe there was anything on this earth that would sway him out of those fixed emotions he exhibited all day: a morose silence and ill humor thrown into the company of intolerable anger. All until, she'd walked in and I had seen a spark come into his eyes ' a ghost raised from the dead. It was a spark from an old ache; nevertheless, it was still something of a revival. ---- Beautiful!!
