Jagya-Ganga OS: Made For Each Other
She lay in the hospital bed in thought. Two days ago he had saved her from her in-laws. Her in-laws were behind bars for domestic violence and she was free. Her daughter was with her. She had had 2 miscarriages: one at age 15 and one at age 17, and finally she had had her first child at 19. She was a victim of child marriage and she would make sure the same would never happen with her daughter. She looked up again when he came in. She hated men, but for some reason she couldn't make herself hate him. And she still didn't understand why.
He opened her bandages and checked her wounds. She was burnt badly, but she was strong. She would survive and she would give her daughter a good life as well. But for some reason he wanted to be there with her when she did that. Two nights ago when he had saved her, he had felt weird. He didn't understand why.
She watched as he bandaged her. She remembered what he had said in the morning. He was inviting her to stay at his place until she could get her life together even though he knew that she would be against the idea. She wondered why he had invited her and why she had accepted.
He was thinking the same. What had made him invite her? After Gauri, he had never looked at anyone, but all of a sudden this girl comes along and he helps her so much. And what surprised him even more was that she had accepted his invite. From her looks that night he had understood that his intrusion hadn't been welcome, but yet he still continued to intrude and she let him.
Her daughter started crying. Both of them leaned over to quiet her and in those few seconds their hands touched. They looked at each other in surprise and didn't notice that the baby had stopped crying. She broke their gaze first slowly pulling her hand out from underneath his. He let her do it and went back to bandaging her foot.
He turned to leave when she whimpered in pain. He turned around and looked at her. She was trying to reach the water jug but because her right hand was in bandages she was having a tough time picking up the jug. He leaned over her and picked up the water jug himself. That's when he realized the position he was in. He was bending over her, his face only inches away from hers. They stared into each other's eyes, lost. This time he broke the gaze. He helped her drink water and then lay her back in the bed.
He again turned to leave, but stopped and said those 3 magical words. Then he left without waiting for a reply. Her heart was beating hard. He had just told her that he loves her and the 2 had only known each other for 2 days. Yet somehow she believed him. Somehow she couldn't make herself hate him. Somehow she knew that he would take care of her and her daughter. Maybe it was the 7 years of pain she had gone through as a child bride. She was only 20, yet she felt like she had lived an eternity.
She didn't know what it was about him, but something comforted her just with his presence. She didn't understand and maybe she didn't want to. All she understood was that he was made for her and she was made for him. They were made for each other. She didn't realize that she had said these words aloud. Maybe she hadn't, but he was standing there with a smile on his face. She knew that he would stand beside her through thick and thin and she was glad about that. She smiled back at him and in those few seconds she forgot all her pains. She forgot that she hated men. She forgot that she didn't know this man. All she remembered was that everything would be alright. For the first time in 7 years, she smiled wholeheartedly without care or thought. And is if feeling the happy vibes in the room, her daughter started laughing in her baby way as well.
Everything would be alright and she knew it. Everything would be good and he knew it. Everything was beautiful and they both knew it. Because they were made for each other.
